1 TERM 2 WEEK 5 10th May, 2016 Dear Parents, Staff and Students When IBM created its first commercial computer the President of the company said that he felt the world market for them would be 5. Alas he wrong. One of the initial selling points of Personal Computers was that they would save time and decrease paper usage. Both we now know are not true. The mobile phone was to improve communication. Possibly, it has also increased it. The internet was to share information and that includes the spam and unsolicited s that fill the in box for many in the morning. This week we have the Year 6 camp and it will be as digital free as it can be. To nurture our spirit we need quiet and reflective time. Jesus took time away to think through the problems around him. He took time in prayer to still his mind. Tully District Schools Tennis Plate On Friday afternoon 8 students; Zane Crema, Camryn Colombini, Damien Heritage, Cohen Emmi, Flynn Crema, Ava Wilkinson, Madeleine Fielder and Jackson Martin represented St. Clare s in the Tully District Schools Tennis Plate Tournament convened by Katie- Ann Flegler with the assistance of Wayne Fielder. We thank Chace Crema, Ellie Jenkins and Stella Berge for filling in for the combined Small School s Team. All children played exceptional tennis and the St. Clare s team were the overall winners for the afternoon! Cohen Emmi won the Green-ball division while Zane Crema won the Yellow-ball division earning him a place in the Tully District Team at the Peninsula Trials in Mareeba! Congratulations to all our students and good luck to Zane in his preparations for the next level! Schools are busy places and we hope while the camp engages students in plenty of group activities it also gives them time as a group where distractions can be minimised and communication is through their mouths and ears. I look forward to my first camp. On Friday the P & F ran a well organised and attended Meet and Greet. Thanks to Jane and her helpers for the night. The Force was strong on the night with entire armies of troopers, mobs of princesses and a fright of Darths in attendance. The disco was a success. It is a tribute to the St Clare s community that such an event goes so well and that the students respond with enthusiasm and adventure. The sports report this week shows success with the tennis team doing very well and the Ken Hamill Cup team putting in a good effort. This week sees the annual Naplan testing for Years 3 and 5. I wish our students well. However, the best way to approach them is as for any day. Get a good sleep, eat well and do your best. By next week we will nearly be half way through the term. Time is said to be relative to age, the younger you are the slower it goes and the opposite when you age. Learning with Christ Mr Paul Keenan Principal A special thank you to Naomi Smith for being our Celebrity Host at the Meet & Greet disco. 2 From the APRE s Desk Welcome Community Hospitality Welcome everyone to Week 5 We hope you had an enjoyable Mother s Day last Sunday. This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost It is actually something we have been learning about recently in Year 6 RE lessons it is not an easy concept to understand or teach and it reminded me of this newsletter entry I wrote back in 2013 Pentecost The Father, Son and who? There is an episode of My Name Is Earl, where Earl and the gang go to see a faith healer. During the service, in an eager attempt to get chosen by the healer, Joy (Earl s ex-wife) jumps up and announces, in the name of the Father, Son and the friendly ghost.pick me! And there it is Joy seems to think that Casper is the third person of the Trinity. A mind numbing TV show yes maybe but it also points out just how difficult it is to comprehend the Holy Spirit. It is easy for us to picture Jesus the Son; he is the bearded, tall, thin man that looks of peace and serenity and even in our own minds we can picture God the Father. I was taught as a child God was up there (my Grandmother pointing to the sky), looking down on us and I would picture an old man with a white beard. (Of course now we come to understand God as everything, everywhere and in everyone; as we are all made in the likeness of God). Whether these images are accurate or not, they do help us to understand. Dear Parents/Grandparents/Friends of Prep and Year 1 may you feel very welcome to attend their class liturgy in the Church at 9.30am this Friday. Thank-you to Mrs Marsilio and Ms Sima for preparing their classes, and of course to Fr Hilary for presiding over the liturgy. We would also like to congratulate and bless our 2016 Sacramental Candidates Stella Berge, William Blennerhasset, Cayla Briggs, Jesse Briggs, Karl Bonello, Jakson Brown, Summer Brown, Owen Cunningham, Bonnie Dore, Reece Durighello, Mac Flegler, Travis Gee, Charlotte Gilbert, Hamish Gilbert, Henry Gilbert, Liliana Gilbert, Ellie Jenkins, Elijah Justiniano, Naudia Liddle, Maeve Lowe, Will McGuinness, Grace O Kane, Lane Rigato, Lily Sheridan, Lucas Todd, Danelle Villaruz, Zoe Waters and Chloe Watt may this journey fill you with God s blessings and a knowing of His unending love. They will be making their Confirmation on the 18 th of May at 7pm Tully and for Mission Beach at 5.15pm. First Eucharist is on the 29 th of May at 9am at St Clare s church and June 26th at 6pm at Mission Beach Church. Many thanks to Tania Gilbert our Parish Sacramental Co-ordinator and their families for preparing their children for these sacraments. SEL STUDENT of the Week. TERM TWO - WEEK 4 The Holy Spirit however is somewhat confusing.pentecost is being celebrated by our Church this weekend, the time when the Holy Spirit descended on the disciples as tongues of fire above their heads and as a strong wind that blew into the house in which they were locked away. It was a defining moment that led the disciples to the belief that even after Jesus death he lived and that his mission was their mission the Holy Spirit had given them hope, strength and conviction. The Holy Spirit is like a fire that burns within us.empowering us to be God s people, to live the Message, to be the Ministry and to act with Mission. Through Baptism and Confirmation we receive and are sealed with the Holy Spirit these sacraments aren t just about going through the motions they represent our promise, our call that we will follow a Christian life and all that entails. May you know that no matter what you are going through the Holy Spirit is going through it with you; giving you hope, strength and conviction. As we read newspaper articles too often on disasters around the world, we often see the words Hope Lives. Always. BACK ROW: Dion Villaruz, Jayvee Feild, Torey Giaquinto, James Brescansin, Fiona Giblin, Owen Cunningham, Eliza Smith, Charlotte Gilbert FRONT ROW: Riley Emmi, Cody Milini, Elise Kleinhans, Corrinne Field, Matthew Kerr, Danicah Justiniano, Summer Sichter Santolin An Augustinian Prayer for the Holy Spirit. Breathe in me O Holy Spirit, that my thoughts may all be holy. Act in me O Holy Spirit, that my work, too, may be holy. Draw my heart O Holy Spirit, that I love all that is holy. Strengthen me O Holy Spirit, to defend all that is holy. Guard me, then, O Holy Spirit, that I always may be holy. Amen. May you know the blessing of the Holy Spirit this week. LIBRARY NEWS The first round of 'Treehouse Trivia' was held at the Library last Tuesday lunch time! Eager participants enjoyed the humorous quiz questions and their funny answers. Our overall winner this week was Stephanie Sutton taking home her very own copy of, 'The 26 Storey Treehouse'! Students will be advised when these pop-quizzes will be on during lunch breaks!
