1 ALL SAINTS SCHOOL Phone Fax REFLECTION Lord Jesus, when you met Zacchaeus, the tax collector whom everyone hated, you looked at him and called him by his name. In doing that, you gave him back his dignity, and he changed his life around. He was able to see himself in a better way, and so he gave back to others the money he had cheated from them. Lead us to show respect for each person as an individual, treating others in the same way that we would like to be treated. Amen. PRINCIPAL S REPORT Welcome to Week 2. This week we have the running of our annual Cross Country event. The Cross Country is eagerly anticipated each year and the students have a great time participating in this event. This is a primary school age activity with the main focus being on participation in Prep to Year 3, while our Year 4-7 Students will compete for places in our School Cross Country Team. We all need to keep in mind that these are young children taking part in our school cross country and are not competing for Olympic selection. Have a great week!! Phil CHANGE OF DATE : SCHOOL FETE Due to extenuating circumstances we have had to change the date of our School Fete. Our Fete will be held on SUNDAY 2 nd NOVEMBER. Our fete will start at 10:30am and conclude at 4pm. 30 April pboonah@bne.catholic.edu.au Web Thank you to the fete committee who attended our meeting last night. Preparations are well underway. Our next Fete meeting will be held on Tuesday 24 June. Board Meeting The will be a Board Meeting tonight Wednesday, 30 April commencing at 7pm. Funeral There will be a funeral held in our church at 1:30pm tomorrow. Parents will need to be prepared to park a little further away from school at pick up time. ANZAC DAY Thank you to all of the students who joined us in marching in the annual ANZAC Day Parade. It was a great turn out with many people commenting on the way we, as a school, have supported this important event. Thank you parents for giving so generously of your time! NAPLAN Dates for this year s NAPLAN Testing are Tuesday 13, Wednesday 14 and Thursday 15 May. NAPLAN testing involves our Year 3, 5 and 7 students. If you do not want your child to participate in the NAPLAN tests please contact me as soon as possible. School Cross Country Trials The 2014 All Saints Cross Country Trials will be held on Friday 2 May. The Prep to Year 3 Trials will be held on the oval on Frank Street and the Year 4 7 trials will be held at Coronation Park. Both Cross Country Trials will begin at 9:30am. Cowboys Corner Last week Cowboys Corner was back to its former glory and so were the Mighty Cowboys!! The poor hapless Eels were taught a footballing lesson they will never forget!! This week the Mighty Cowboys play their Southern Cousins from Brisbane. Last time the Prancing Ponies were lucky!! This week, order will be restored as the mighty Cowboys bring the overachieving Broncos back down to earth!! Fr Peter will not be happy after this weekend so please be nice to him when you see him next week!

By tradition, the Catholic Church dedicates each month of the year to a certain devotion. In May, it is the Blessed Virgin Mary. The class talked about how Mary was called for a very special job, to be the mother of Jesus. We look forward to Year 5 s assembly next week. Canonisation of Popes John XXIII and John Paul II On Sunday, Pope Francis declared Popes John XXIII and John Paul II saints in a ceremony made even more historic by the presence of emeritus Pope Benedict XVI in St. Peter's Square. Never before have a reigning pope and a retired pope celebrated Mass together in public, much less at an event honouring two of their most famous predecessors. The process of canonisation is as follows: When a person dies who has "fame of sanctity" or "fame of martyrdom," the Bishop of the Diocese usually initiates the investigation. The next step is beatification. A martyr may be beatified and declared "Blessed" by virtue of martyrdom itself. Otherwise, the candidate must be credited with a miracle. After beatification, another miracle is needed for canonization and the formal declaration of sainthood. Just a thought Age is something that doesn t matter, unless you are a cheese. Stay classy, All Saints Cathy LIBRARY NEWS If we ever needed an excuse to sit and read, this is it! May is National Family Reading Month Family involvement in reading at school and at home has a strong and positive impact on a child s educational achievement. Be a reading role model and let your children see you reading- for enjoyment, for news and for information in cookbooks, magazines, online etc. An adult reading role model is a key motivator for independent reading practice. All classes have been invited to participate in this event. Teachers have provided your child with a reading log to be filled in after reading sessions with your child. 10 minutes per day is all that is required. Please ensure all Bookclub orders are returned to the office by Friday 2 May. Payment can be made by cash, cheque (made out to Ashton Scholastic or All Saints School), EFT (credit inc.) at the office or Credit card directly to Scholastic by filling in details on the order form. Please leave this section attached to your order form and make a copy of the receipt number for your own records if needed. Our annual bookfair will be held in June. We had wonderful support from our local businesses, parents and a great team who sourced prizes for our raffle. Do you have any clean, unwanted CHILDRENS clothing that you would like to donate to our stall. Your donated items can be baby clothes, summer and winter clothing, pyjamas, dress ups, anything up to about a size would be ideal. Please leave these items with the office as soon as possible. Please note there is no hot food at second break, only over the counter sales. Please refer to the Term 2 menu. There was a mix up with the public holidays on the roster so please check the revised roster. 4 NOTICES Introducing Junior Secondary School at Boonah SHS 2015 Prospective Parents of Year 7 and 8 Information Session Tuesday 6 th May 4.00pm to 6.00pm We would like to invite 2015 prospective Year 7 and Year 8 parents and other interested members of our community to an information session on transitioning to high school. The session will be held in our school hall, with a 4.00pm start and a 6.00pm conclusion. The proposed agenda includes: Tour of school facilities; Meet our Heads of Department and view subject area displays; Serving of tea and coffee; Brief presentation on the development of Junior Secondary; Opportunity to input into vision and planning for your child s education. 6 NOTICES All Saints Choir The All Saints Choir have been invited to perform for the National Volunteers Day Morning Tea. The Choir will perform at the Boonah Cultural Centre at on Tuesday, 6 May. 7 Boonah Show Gates Canberra Trip Fundraising The students from year five, six and seven are going to Canberra this year and as part of the fundraising for this event we are manning the gates at the Boonah Show on Friday 16 th and Saturday 17 th of May. We are looking for All Saints parents to help collect money and issue armbands. If you would like to help by contributing some time on Saturday it would be greatly appreciated. Below is a roster with the required times. If you would like to help out please complete the table showing when you would prefer to help, and return it to the school office by May 2 nd.
