(Palm Sunday) 29/3: Easter Story Liturgy (Whole School) As we near the end of the season of Lent, our faith community focuses on the significant events in the last days of Jesus life on earth. This Sunday, Palm Sunday or Passion Sunday marks the start of Holy Week and Christ s journey to the cross and resurrection. For us as Christians this is the most sacred of all seasons of the Church s year. During the three days of the Easter Triduum Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter we are invited to journey with Jesus and reflect on the events of the Last Supper the washing of the feet: Good Friday - experience something of the depths of Christ s pain and the pain of our world: keep vigil through Holy Saturday: and have our spirits raised in the joy of the resurrection. The liturgy of these three days is ONE celebration. The Holy Thursday Liturgy is sometimes referred to as the Institution of the Eucharist but the Gospel focuses on Jesus washing the feet of the disciples. Holy Thursday is a celebration of our response to Jesus and His message a response that is most clearly demonstrated in service to others. This service is symbolised by the washing of the feet and presentation of gifts to the poor. Good Friday. The Liturgy on this day recalls and makes present the passion and death of Jesus. In this celebration of the passion and death of Jesus, we listen to the words of scripture and strive to understand the true meaning of His suffering. The liturgy of the Vigil celebrates Jesus ultimate triumph, even over physical death, in His resurrection. Jesus in rising to the glory of new life, is able to give new life to all who believe in Him. I asked Jesus How much do you love me? This much, He answered, and stretched out His arms and died. Easter means we never have to ask God how much He loves us. In planning our Easter break, let us use the time as it was traditionally intended to celebrate the great saving events of our Christian faith. Best wishes for a Happy and a Holy Easter.

4 MERCY COLLEGE ENROLMENT INFORMATION TUCKSHOP NEWS Next week tuckshop will be open Wednesday and Thursday only. There will be a few Easter treats available on Thursday as well as our usual menu: Easter nest cupcake- with Easter eggs $2.50, Malteser Bunny in a pond jelly $2.50, Hot cross buns $1.50, GF Hot cross buns $1.50 I would like to thank all those who volunteered this term. It is very much appreciated and, without your help, tuckshop would not run as well as it does. If anyone is available on a Friday next term, please let me know as we are always looking for helpers. Homebake help, pikelets or chocolate slice, is also an option if preferred. Thank you also to all the support from families and staff who order tuckshop. TOUR DE CURE FUNDRAISER On Monday this week the school raised money for the Tour De Cure, which Cameron Single is taking part in on April 27 th. The students all came in sports related free dress with crazy hair and in the afternoon we celebrated with a whole school disco, run by the year 6 Justice Committee. Together we raised over $500 for the Tour De Cure. Well done St Joseph s!!! There is a collection tin in the office if anyone would like to donate, or you can go to the following link: TRIPLE P PARENTING SEMINAR SAVE THE DATE It is extremely rewarding and enjoyable being a parent, but it is not always easy. It can be demanding, frustrating and exhausting. The challenge for parents is to raise healthy, well-adjusted children in a loving, predictable environment. The Triple P Positive Parenting Program aims to support parents to do just that, and to deal with day to day challenges that all parents face. Next term, on the 21 st of May, there is going to be a Triple P Seminar held at St Francis Catholic Primary School. This seminar is open to all St Joseph parents. More information will be provided through the newsletter closer to the date. If you have any immediate concerns, I can assist you in a one-to-one format to develop plans to manage behavioural issues (e.g. tantrums, fighting, sharing, swearing etc) and skill development issues (e.g. staying in bed at night, eating independently, toilet training, etc). DI WILSON Finance Secretary HELP US FUNDRAISE FOR THE TOUR DE CURE!!!! Over the last 12 months, a number of families have been impacted by cancer. This year, one of our school parents, Cameron Single is taking part in the Tour De Cure to help raise money for cancer research. Here is his story. I m taking part in the Tour De Cure this year, which is an annual cycling event to raise money for cancer research( This year we will start in Mackay on the 27th of April ride 1110km and finish in Cairns on the 5th of May. Why do this ride?? I lost my Dad to cancer in 2004 he was only 52. Dad was a very keen and active cyclist which is what led me into cycling. I cannot think of a better way to remember Dad and to honour him than to turn the cranks over with a good group of friends and try to raise some funds to help beat the disease that took him. My two Daughters will never know my Dad which is a loss to both my girls and my Dad. If this ride can raise the money that leads to a breakthrough in cancer research and another family doesn't have to feel this loss, then it will have been worth it. The major commitment to doing the ride is to raise $ which is a mind boggling amount. The main fund raiser I m doing is a raffle to the V8 supercars in Townsville in July. A weekend for 2 in a corporate box at the V8 Supercars - Townsville 400. All food and beverages (spirits not provided) will be supplied while in the corporate suite. The corporate suite is located directly above pit lane so you can't get any closer to the racing than this. Tickets to the concert on Saturday night with John Farnham and Daryl Braithwaite are also included. As part of the package 3 nights accommodation at the Grand Hotel and Apartments on Palmer St. in Townsville city centre is also included. Tickets are $25ea with a maximum of 1000 tickets to be sold. 8 PREP SUPERHERO SHOWCASE On Tuesday, you may have noticed all the Superheroes around the school. The prep classrooms were overrun by superheroes and even the adults were dressed as superheroes. The morning was to celebrate all we have been learning in Prep this term. The morning began by sharing our Ideas and Organisation Writing Trait songs with our parents. We also shared our school theme song with our parents. The rest of the morning was spent completing a number of superhero related activities with our parents and friends. We had a great morning making our superhero masks and capes and enjoyed colouring in and naming our very own superhero. We had a fantastic morning and loved having our parents come to see to share in our learning journey.
