We focused on the Offertory and why the bread and wine are taken up to the altar. Bread is used as an offering of our daily work of all the ordinary things we do to help others. The wine is a bit special: it represents happiness, the achievements, all the joyful things we want to offer to Jesus. Both of these are symbols of the ordinary and extraordinary things about our lives that we want to offer to God. Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me. Dear parents and carers, When I read that Holy Apostles were looking for cooking teams to feed the homeless every Thursday I signed our school up and asked for members of staff to volunteer. These past six months, we have cooked for the homeless at Holy Apostles four times and I have learnt so much from the experience. What struck me the most is the bond that this experience has brought, not only amongst our school cooking teams but with other volunteers and those we were feeding. Each guest has a story, some they wish to share, others wish to remain quiet but cooking and sharing a meal brings a sense of unity. As Jesus teaches us; whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me. I wish to thank my staff for volunteering and sharing the experience with me.

2 Continuing the theme of catering, I wish to congratulate our school head chef, Arsene, he was awarded by the catering company Caterlink an Outstanding Employment Award. We are so proud of Arsene and thank him for taking pride in his work and providing a wonderful service to each of our children. School Attendance The school attendance target is 96.5%. We are only at 94.9% for the academic year. 24 children are below 90% attendance which is very worrying, this means they have missed 2 whole weeks of school. Next week letters will be sent home to those parents. I am also noting that I am having more holiday requests. I would like to remind you that I will not authorise any holiday absence during school time and this gets marked as unauthorised absence for your child. Please make an effort to maintain the highest attendance for your child to ensure they get the most out of their education. E-Safety news, It has come to my attention there is a new game which is affecting young pupils safety, the game is called FORTNITE. What is Fortnite? Fortnite is a video game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Windows, Mac, and mobile that takes elements from sandbox-building games and adds the fast-paced action of a third-person shooter. There are two modes to the game: a solo version called Save the World and the hugely popular multiplayer version called Battle Royale. Is Fortnite appropriate for kids? For some parents, the cartoonish, bloodless style of the action in Fortnite makes the violence less problematic than the aggressive gore in other popular shooter games. But the game's online chat feature -- especially in Battle Royale -- could expose younger players to offensive language or mature content from random strangers. Common Sense doesn't recommend games with open chat for kids under 13, but with the right controls and parental guidance, this can be a tween-friendly alternative to violent first-person shooters. What age should kids be to play Fortnite? Common Sense recommends Fortnite for teens 13 and up, primarily because of the open chat and action violence. To help raise funds for the Summer Fair we will be having a cake sale Friday 25th May after school. Please put the date in your diary and look out for any requests for cakes to sell. We will also be putting out all lost property that afternoon for you to claim back!

4 Corpus Christi Liturgy We would like to invite you to a Corpus Christi Liturgy in the Church and gardens at Holy Apostles Thursday 7th June at 10am. This liturgy will start our school s preparation and work linked to the Eucharistic Pilgrimage and Congress "Adoremus" - Liverpool 2018 Royal Wedding Tea Party Today we had our Royal Wedding tea party. I will write more about it in next week s newsletter. Here are some photos to share.
