Surprsngly, all these events have been presented wthout cost to the students and staff of the nsttute, wth the excepton of the Gelgud-Worth presentaton whch was perfoed at a very reduced rate. What s ost aazng, however, s that no nsttute funds or subsdy have ever been allocated to the progra. The Huantes Departent has sought donatons and patronage funds to support the endeavor. What Brecht would have asked of Mss Dukaldks s that she dvorce herself fro her role enough so that the audence would never lose sght of her as one of the. The actress should have becoe a teacher of sorts; she should have ade her subject convncng, but have kept t at a safe dstance. Mother Courage, as such, presents a rather awesoe challenge. Mss Dukaks eets the challenge well. The role of Kattrn deands the sae type of cauton, but of a ore delcate nature. Mss Mlgr as Kattrn s excellent. f she sees to acheve pathos, that s not her fault. t s rather the fault-of the audence who are not the objectvely crtcal spectators Brecht would have lked. The support actors, the best of who were Lous Zorch who played the Cook and Gwyllu Evans who played the Chaplan, wth few exceptons copleent' ed the perforances of Mss Dukaks and Mss Mlgr very well. They brought out easly the sparklng wt and btterness whch characterze all Brecht's plays. The techncal support, wth the excepton of costue desgn, was excellent.
