2 Course/Module description: The current course focuses on the idea of children's rights, the meaning of this concept and its characteristics. A comprehensive examination through the state of children's rights will take place, from national as well as international perspective. The course particularly focuses on children's rights in multi-cultural and unjust societies. The course examines the historical development of children's rights, the special features of this idea and the national and international mechanisms through which children's rights are protected and promoted Course/Module aims: The course's aims are: to introduce students with the idea of children's rights; to help students to explore issues regarding children' welfare and well-being through the perspective of children' rights and to introduce them with critical tools of analyzing; to discuss the idea of children's rights in the field of social work practice. Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: - Define and describe the basic concepts of children's right idea - Distinguish between different groups of children's rights, understand the interlink between them and the conflicts they raise - Critically evaluate situation in which children's rights are being violated, in various contexts in children's lives - Be familiar with the international mechanisms through which children's' rights are protected. - Compare between different countries as regard to the state of children's rights. Attendance requirements(%): Presence in the classes are obligated, students would be allowed to miss out only 20% of the classes Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Frontal lectures and discussions Course/Module Content: The course will be divided into 3 main parts: Part 1: children's rights definitions, meaning and features Lesson 1.: introduction to human rights Lesson 2.: historical background on children's rights page 2 / 7
