We all have a pretty impressive laundry list of why we can t be of more service to God and to others. Even Saint Paul had his thorn in the flesh, some private difficulty that seemed to hold him back from being the apostle he sought to be. Paul kept praying for its removal so he could be free of this impediment. Finally he reinterpreted the thorn: not an impediment, but an opportunity to let God be God. READINGS FOR THE WEEK OF JULY 8, 2018 Saint Kateri Tekakwith informally known as Lily of the Mohawks ( ) was born in the Mohawk village of Ossernenon. She contracted smallpox in an epidemic; her family died and her face scarred. Baptized at age nineteen she was renamed Kateri in honor of Saint Catherine of Siena. Refusing to marry, she left her village and lived the remaining 5 years of her life in a Jesuit mission Kateri was beatified in 1980 (Pope John Paul II) and canonized Oct 21, 2012 (Pope Benedict XVI).. Don t forget to drop off empty coffee cans in the DYNAMIC CATHOLIC There will be a video presentation of The Seven Pillars of Catholic Spirituality by Matthew Kelly on Monday, July 16th in Assumption Hall at St. Patrick Parish in Newport at 7PM. It runs for one hour and will be followed by a 40 -minute discussion if the attendees desire. This video by Matthew should inspire you to live life to the fullest and encourage you to act purposefully and direct you to deeper conversation with the Creator of This program offers assistance to any one in our community who needs a helping hand. 100% of your contribution goes to those in need and is tax deductible. 5 PREPARING FOR SUNDAY SCRIPTURE GROUPS Throughout the centuries, Christians have formed small faith communities in order to enrich their love and faith in God by offering a time for men and women to come together. This ancient tradition continues today in our Parish where we gather to pray; to read and listen to the upcoming Sunday Scripture passages; and to reflect, share and meditate on the Readings both aloud and silently. Men s group meets every Wednesday morning from 7:30am to 8:45am in the OLF Library. Following the meeting, the men gather for morning Mass at 9:00am. Men/women s group meets every Thursday morning from 9:00am to 10:am in the OLF Church. Following the meeting, the group receives Holy Communion followed by a personal quiet and meditative time. If you would like to know more about our gather- YouthOnMain (YOM) YOM is an interdenominational initiative serving the Lake Sunapee area. YOM invites middleschool youth to join us for events on the second Saturday of each month. Leaders include Lynn Wenger, Teresa Jackson and Ellen Yenawine. This initiative is supported by local churches. YOM is a program designed to nurture faith, hope and charity; build strong peer relationships; encourage mutual respect, civility and generosity and provide service to the community as well as activities that are fun and inspirational for our children in middle school and their friends. YOM welcomes young people and their families of all faiths seeking ways to connect with peers.
