Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. Then he said to the tree, May no one ever eat fruit from you again. And his disciples heard him say it. In the morning, as they went along, they saw the fig tree withered from the roots. Peter remembered and said to Jesus, Rabbi, look! The fig tree you cursed has withered! Have faith in God, Jesus answered. Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, Go, throw yourself into the sea, and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins. (Leader)...The word of God for the people of God. A Will to Lead and the Grace to Follow: Letters on Leadership from a Peculiar Prophet... Throughout his time as bishop, Will Willimon has once a week sat down at his computer and tapped out short messages to the churches under his care. Sometimes his intention has been to comfort and console; sometimes it s been to motivate and inspire. Sometimes he s written deeply theological meditations on the mystery of the Resurrection; other times, he s spoken in highly practical terms about what goes into making an effective congregation. Sometimes he wrestles with thorny issues of the day, like religion and politics; other times he lists the things you should do during the first week of a new pastorate. Always he s brought to the task his trademark humor and insight. This book brings together dozens of these messages, each of them a gem of pastoral advice. From cover information, Abingdon Press. Welcome to our newest members received Sunday, April 15 MARY COUGHLIN has been attending Roser for10 years and thought it high time to become a member. She was born in England and left when she was 21 to see the world, assuring her parents she would be back in 1-2 years. That was in 1970! Her specialty was Midwifery and Hospice (which she referred to as Birthing Babies, or Birthing Souls, both of which she considered a great privilege). Mary met her husband (Ron) in Bermuda (at that time he was in the Navy--like the Nurse/Sailor statue in Sarasota). They lived primarily in Bermuda, the Marshall Islands, and Colorado, while raising their 3 sons. They took an early retirement to AMI in 2008, spending the first few years traveling the world with one pair of walking shoes, a back pack and some bug spray an adventure of a lifetime. Mary says... I have loved this church from the moment I set foot inside. I feel so loved and embraced by you all. It is SO very evident to me that God truly abides here. RON & TRACY PIATT are from northeast Ohio. They lived and worked in Stow, OH until their retirement five years ago. Now they spend most months in Bradenton and the summer in Ohio. They have one son, Kenneth, who lives and works in Boston and plays with the Hartford Symphony Orchestra. Ron is a retired police lieutenant from the Kent Police Department in Ohio. He has 35 years of law enforcement experience, was part of the SWAT team and, after retirement, became the SWAT team administrator. Ron is a trustee for the Stow Historical Society and volunteers restoring historical buildings during the summer. He is an avid road cyclist and enjoys exercising and golf. Tracy is retired from 35 years of teaching 2nd grade. She was very involved in community activities and created an annual program for students to raise money for the Akron Children s Hospital bone marrow transplant unit. Tracy volunteers at a local cancer wellness center that provides services for individuals and families on their cancer journey. Tracy enjoys reading, the beach, exercising and taking care of their dog. It is a great privilege to be a member of Roser Church. Roser has two types of members: Full Members and Federated Members (an opportunity to be a member of Roser and maintain membership in another Church). If you are ready to commit yourself to helping Roser fulfill the work of Christ by becoming a member, please check the Wish to Join Roser box on the pew pad or contact Dr. O Keef personally. Dr. Bob will meet with you and answer all your questions. 5
