Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an impure spirit cried out, What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are the Holy One of God! Be quiet! said Jesus sternly. Come out of him! The impure spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. The people were all so amazed that they asked each other, What is this? A new teaching and with authority! He even gives orders to impure spirits and they obey him. News about him spread quickly over the whole region of Galilee. DOORS OPEN AT 3:00 FREE-WILL OFFERING Read more about Eunmi and Thea online at Rather than more traditional programming based on a single composer or nationality, Songeaters produces programs that thread together a DIVERSE REPERTOIRE based on story and text theme. They seek to explore the widest range of perspectives and experiences by pairing selected popular chestnuts with lesser known gems and newly composed responses that expand the world of classical song and deepen understanding. In the search for variety, they have discovered a vast amount of repertoire by women, minorities and other marginalized composers throughout history which has most often not been recorded, performed in recent history, or even published in some cases. For this performance Lobo and Ko will present seasonscape, a program tracing the course of the year through a wide variety of eras and countries.

DEFENDING THE FAITH A Study of the Letters of John Taught by Rev. Dr. Bob O Keef Location: Chapel In the early days of the church, there arose a group of Christians who believed that they had moved beyond orthodox thinking. They believed that they were receiving direct inspiration from the Holy Spirit and no longer needed Jesus or His teaching. They argued against the incarnation, the atonement, and even the death and resurrection of Jesus. The three brief, but powerful, Letters of John address these ancient heresies. John demands that we know Jesus, that we walk in His light, and that we love in a radical way. John teaches that radical love should transform us and those whom we love. In our six-week study, Dr. O Keef will help us understand how to defend and live out our faith in the 21st Century. THEOLOGY OF HYMNS: The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly PART 2 Taught by Rev. Neil Crowell Location: Fellowship Hall Ever sung hymns in church and not understood them? Have you ever wondered if some hymns line up with Scripture? This class will explore different hymns each week, study their history, and ask whether they are theologically sound. JAN 30 (God s Strength) All Hail the Power of Jesus Name, Holy! Holy! Holy!, Stand Up for Jesus JOURNEY from Mourning TO JOY Location: Classroom D Do you or does someone you know need encouragement after the death of a spouse, child, family member or friend? Our group is led by caring people who have experienced grief and successfully rebuilt their lives. We will walk with you on the long path through grief toward healing and hope for the future. There are three parts to your GriefShare experience a video featuring leading grief recovery experts, small group discussion and a workbook for journaling and personal study. THE GROOVE: The Basics of Christianity FOR YOUTH Taught by Glenda Beck Location: Dr. Bob s Office This small-group Bible study invites teens to learn the essentials of their faith, own their story, and engage the world in serving Jesus. Each easyto-lead study consists of four weekly sessions that relate to life issues teens face along with a Student Journal with questions and devotions. 4

5 Give the Gift of Life SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 4 8:30-12:00 Everyone who donates will receive a t-shirt. MISSION OF THE MONTH HOPE SEEDS Hope Seeds is a Christian charitable organization that provides seeds and agricultural support to missionaries and mission teams around the World. This mission empowers the hungry to grow nutritious food which helps heal broken families and communities. By supporting this mission with your donations, you have the opportunity to not only share seed for gardens but also share seed for the Gospel. Register in the Narthex, the church office or online at THE BENEFITS OF GIVING BLOOD RECEIVE A FREE WELLNESS CHECKUP. Each time you donate you ll receive a free wellness checkup which includes blood pressure, pulse, temperature, iron count and cholesterol screening. These wellness checkups have saved the lives of some of those who volunteer to give blood. YOU MAY BE LESS LIKELY TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK. Donating regularly may help your blood flow and result in fewer arterial blockages. In fact, some studies have shown that men who donate at least three times a year can drastically reduce their risk of having a heart attack or stroke. DONATING CAN KEEP YOUR IRON LEVEL BALANCED. Having too much iron in your blood can contribute to hardening of the arteries. When you donate blood, the amount of iron in your blood is reduced. The iron will be replenished by the food you eat after donating, but regular donations can balance your iron level. Golfing for God The seed is packaged in small ziplock packets of ten varieties and species chosen for the climate and culture of the nation they are being sent to free of charge. 8 The COMMUNITY CHURCH MESSENGER 512 Pine Ave PO Box 247 Anna Maria FL Died to Life Everlasting Betty Grant died to Life Everlasting on January 20. Our deepest sympathy is extended to her family and friends. INTRODUCING... Our Ambassador for Membership In 2000 our Exceptional Volunteer Award went to David Miles for his many years of serving Roser Church in so many ways. He was on and off the Board of Trustees several times. Even when not officially on, David would be involved with the Tuesday morning workers as they made improvements to our building and grounds. David joined Roser church over 40 years ago and recently celebrated his 95th birthday. During his early years in the church, David built our first sound booth and was responsible for recording video and audio records of our services thru Some vision and other health issues have limited David to being home more. However, they have not limited his enthusiasm for wanting to do more for Roser Church. He will be working with the Membership Committee to follow up with phone calls to those who have recently joined the church and to some on our Homebound list who can t get to church as often as they would like. If you are the recipient of a phone call from David, know that you can speak freely to him. He will be happy to answer any questions you might have about Roser. If he does not have the answer, he will know who does and put you in touch with them.
