4 Angel Tree Many children in Manatee County would not receive any Christmas gifts if not for this Salvation Army program. The Angel Trees will be displayed in the Chapel and Narthex during the month of November. Tags, representing children under the age of 12, are hung from the tree for you to take and shop for Christmas gifts for that special angel. Take a tag from the tree and a plastic bag. Please return your unwrapped gifts in the bag, secured with the tag by Sunday, NOVEMBER 26 to the Narthex! Contact Renee Ferguson or call the church office for additional information. A free hot lunch is served to over 200 people a day, 7 days a week. Hope Seeds Wednesday, November 15 at 9:00 AM, Hope Seeds will pack seeds at Roser Church in Classroom D, in addition to the days and times in town. MARY LECHLEIDNER will be our speaker and the topic, THE PROCESS OF WRITING, SELLING, AND PUBLICATION and the how-to for anyone who is interested in writing a book today. Mary is the author of several novels. Since she started writing in 1994, she has published 19 books in women s fiction, both historical and contemporary, for several publishers, including St. Martin s Press, Steeple Hill, and most recently, for Bethany House. Many have been translated into Dutch, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian. Her most recent trilogy, At Home in Trinity, chronicles the life and work of a 19th century midwife, and she will have one set of the trilogy to offer as a door prize for anyone who brings a canned good for the Food Pantry. She will also have a free copy of one of the books for the first 50 who attend. Migrant Sewing MONDAY, NOVEMBER 13 & 27 9:30-11:00 in the Fellowship Hall to sew and knot quilts. 6 STEPHEN MINISTRY TODAY, SUNDAY NOVEMBER 12 at Roser s 10:00 AM service, there will be a Stephen Ministry commissioning service. Following the 10:00 service, Stephen Leaders will be available in the Roser Library to address questions about Stephen Ministry. Also any of our current Stephen Ministers could share with you their experiences and the value of the classes. Perhaps you know someone who might benefit from RECEIVING the care-giving skills of a Stephen Minister. If so, call the church office or JoAnne Moyer. Grief Share WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15 1:00 PM in CLASSROOM D TOPIC: Guilt and Anger Sessions continue through December 27. Call the church office ( ) to enroll. The cost is $15 for the workbook (scholarships available). You are welcome to begin attending the program at any point. Each session is self-contained. After the cards and flowers have stopped coming, friends and family return to their normal lives. But grief continues and loneliness sets in. Offer to attend this group with someone who is hurting and reluctant to attend alone. Our group is led by caring people who have experienced grief and successfully rebuilt their lives. We will walk with you on the long path through grief toward healing and hope for the future. There are three parts to your GriefShare experience an encouraging, information-packed video featuring leading grief recovery experts, small group discussion and a workbook for journaling and personal study exercise that reinforce the weekly session topics. The film was based on the autobiograpical book by Corrie ten Boom recounting her and her family s experiences before and during their imprisonment during the Holocaust. The movie was produced by Billy Graham s organization and is listed as one of the best movies of Bring your bag lunch and/or movie snacks and join us for this uplifting movie. 7 Roser Robics 9:30 AM Wednesdays & Fridays IN THE FELLOWSHIP HALL All ages and skill levels are welcome as variations are shown, including standing exercises to improve balance and flexibility. This chair-based exercise class is appropriate for older adults and those looking to lessen the impact on their joints. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 says that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit... so let s glorify God, have fun, and move to the music through exercises designed to increase your endurance. THE COST: Donation-based BRING: 2 cans of fruit of equal size and weight to be used for class activities. Cans may be donated to the Food Pantry. ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: The instructor, Melissa Merkle, is certified as an AFAA Group Exercise Instructor and Personal Trainer and Health Coach. We travel the neighborhood in costume, leading live animals, as we follow Mary and Joseph on their journey to find a room. We end at the church where we celebrate the birth of Baby Jesus. Followed by cookies, cocoa and fellowship. Don t forget to bring your flashlight! DONATIONS OF COOKIES are gratefully accepted and can be dropped off in the kitchen marked Bethlehem Walk. CHRISTMAS CAROLING 11:15 AM SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3 Everyone is invited to join the Roser Deacons in caroling to the home bound of our congregation. Immediately following the 10:00 AM Worship Service we will gather in the Fellowship Hall for lunch and crafting a small pine gift. Then we will divide into groups and carpool to go out and sing. Please let us know you are coming to lunch by marking the attendance pad with a C, or calling the church office. ADVENT FAMILY NIGHT 4:00-6:00 PM SUNDAY, DECEMBER 3 A fun night to start your Advent Season! Make an angel ornament (a great project for children!) or decorate a wreath for your home. When we are done being creative we will share in a covered dish meal. Please call the church office to say how many are coming and what craft you will be making. Please bring your own wreath and all other supplies will be provided. See you there!!! Candles & Carols 8:30 & 10:00 AM SUNDAY, DECEMBER 10 (A Service of hope, peace, joy and love) A presentation of the Advent cantata Candles and Carols by Pamela Martin and Mark Hayes. A candle is lit, a narration is spoken and beautiful settings of familiar carols with a newly written verse will be sung by the choir and/or the congregation. CHRISTMAS EVE 5:30 & 9:00 PM SUNDAY, DECEMBER 24 Two Christmas Eve Candlelight Services will be held in the Sanctuary. The 5:30 PM Family Service features a Nativity Pageant in which all children are invited to participate. There will be singing of carols, special music by the Joyful Noise Children s Choir and Good News! from Dr. Bob O Keef. All children will receive a gift. At the 9:00 PM Traditional Service there will be special music and the singing of carols. Dr. Bob O Keef will bring us the message of Good News! The service will end with the singing of Silent Night and the Passing of the Light. 7

8 The COMMUNITY CHURCH MESSENGER 512 Pine Ave PO Box 247 Anna Maria FL Thanks for Giving We would like to thank everyone that contributed to the Hurricane Relief Fund. We raised $8,075 to help individuals and ministries who have been devastated by Hurricane Irma. $600 helped pay bills for individuals who lost their job at the City Pier Restaurant. $5,000 was donated to Echo Ministries to assist in hurricane recovery cutting down trees and clearing debris so they can get back to their mission of reducing hunger and improving lives around the world. $6,000 was given from donations and existing mission funds to the Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico. While recovering from Hurricane Irma they suffered the direct onslaught of Hurricane Maria. The funds will go toward rebuilding facilities to withstand future natural disasters, provide scholarships for students, help sponsor denominations recuperate financially and assist students to rebuild their homes and heal their families. Thanks again for your prayerful and financial support over this difficult time. TURKEY ROASTING SUGGESTIONS Purchase an approximately 12 lb. turkey (if you wish reimbursement submit voucher with receipt to church office) Allow 3 to 3 1 /2 hours to roast, on Thanksgiving Day. Bring turkey and drippings to church between 12:00 & 1:00 pm. ROAST TURKEY: 1. Pre-heat oven to 325 degrees. 2. Remove giblets & neck from inside turkey. Rinse bird with running cold water, drain well. 3. Place turkey, breast up, on rack in open roasting pan, sprinkle with salt and pepper. Do not cover. 4. When bird has browned as much as you wish, place over the breast, tent-fashion, a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil. 5. Roast until done. TESTING FOR DONENESS: ONE OF TWO WAYS 1. Thermometer - insert in thickest part of meat, between breast and thigh, being careful tip doesn t touch bone, until it reads 185 degrees. 2.
