Tuesday, June 12 Meeting for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion, Readers, Sacristans and Linen Cleaners, 7PM Wednesday, June 13 Confession at 6PM, Mass 7PM Thursday, June 14 AA Meeting 7:30PM Friday, June 15 Rosary at Preferred Care at Wall (formerly Geraldine Thompson Nursing Home) 10AM Reflections First Reading: Genesis 3:9-15 The original couple blame each other for their sin. The snake instigated the whole matter, and so God punishes him severely. Then God puts enmity between the snake and the woman, whom we know is Mary our Queen. Second Reading: II Corinthians 4:13-5:1 Paul, empowered by the Spirit, has an active faith, and that is how he interprets his present suffering. He looks to an everlasting reward from God. Gospel: Mark 3:20-35 Jesus is judged not only by His family, but also by the scribes as being out of His mind, or probably possessed for what He is preaching. Jesus tells a crowd to expand their thinking and realize that His family is all those who do God s will. Cursillo Corner Want to grow deeper in your relationship with God? Go onto our website and click on the Facebook link. Thank you to Terry Kelly for making the page and keeping it updated. Choosing Godparents Important Role Models for Your Child s Faith The practice of two Godparents for an infant s baptism goes back to the time when Church law and civil law were one and the same in Europe. If anything did happen to the parents, the custody and well being of the child became the responsibility of the Godparents. Adult baptism required that one have a sponsor from the church who would act as a guide or mentor, in bringing the person to faith. Today, being a Godparent has no legal implications. It is a spiritual matter. Godparents, must be practicing Catholics and have received all sacraments of initiation Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. A non-catholic Christian cannot be a Godparent but can be a Christian Witness. This distinction recognizes the difference between faith and religion. A Christian can be a witness because of his/her relationship to God (faith), but the Catholic is a mentor in the practice of the religion. In any event, it is vital that parents give serious consideration to the people they choose to be the child s Godparent. That choice should be based on practice of faith, solid moral character and ability to give good example. Too often the choice is left to whose turn it is in the family or to friends that parents wish to honor or acknowledge in some way. Your choice of Godparents is the first lesson of faith you teach your child. Make it count! Save the date! The Solemnity of St. William the Abbot is Monday, June 25th. Join us for a solemn Mass at 6:30PM, followed by a Pot Luck Dinner. Please bring a dinner or desert to share. It is also BYOB. We will supply water, soda, coffee and tea. Please rsvp by calling or .
6 June 10, 2018 Page St. Juliana Falconieri Feast day June 19 Juliana Falconieri was born in answer to prayer, in Her father built the splendid church of the Annunziata in Florence, while her uncle, Blessed Alexius, became one of the founders of the Servite Order. Under his care Juliana grew up, as he said, more like an angel than a human being. Such was her modesty that she never used a mirror or gazed upon the face of a man during her whole life. The mere mention of sin made her shudder and tremble, and once hearing a scandal related she fell into a dead swoon. Her devotion to the sorrows of Our Lady drew her to the Servants of Mary; and, at the age of fourteen, she refused an offer of marriage, and received the habit from St. Philip Benizi himself. Her sanctity attracted many novices, for whose direction she was bidden to draw up a rule, and thus with reluctance she became foundress of the Mantellate. She was with her children as their servant rather than their mistress, while outside her convent she led a life of apostolic charity, converting sinners, reconciling enemies, and healing the sick by sucking with her own lips their ulcerous sores. She was sometimes rapt for whole days in ecstasy, and her prayers saved the Servite Order when it was in danger of being suppressed. She was visited in her last hour by angels in the form of white doves, and Jesus Himself as a beautiful child, crowned her with a garland of flowers. She wasted away through a disease of the stomach, which prevented her taking food. She bore her silent agony with constant cheerfulness, grieving only for the privation of Holy Communion. At last, when, in her seventieth year, she had sunk to the point of death, she begged to be allowed once more to see and adore the Blessed Sacrament. It was brought to her cell, and reverently laid on a corporal, which was placed over her heart. At this moment she expired, and the Sacred Host disappeared. After her death the form of the Host was found stamped upon her heart in the exact spot over which the Blessed Sacrament had been placed. Juliana died in Meditate often, says St. Paul of the Cross, on the sorrows of the holy Mother, sorrows inseparable from those of her beloved Son. If you seek the Cross, there you will find the Mother; and where the Mother is, there also is the Son.
