St. Aloysius School Cafeteria every Saturday morning beginning at 6AM with breakfast, 6:30 presentation, followed by small group discussions and then conclusion at 7:30. To register for this free program go to or David Furbish at dfurb@aol.com. TMIY is an interactive men s program combining the best research from science with the teachings of the Catholic faith and the wisdom of the saints to develop the vision of a man fully alive. Reflections First Reading: II Samuel 7:1-5,8b-12,14a Nathan gives David pre-approval of his decision to build a temple. But Yahweh wishes otherwise. David is promised a son and heir with a lasting legacy. Second Reading: Romans 16:25-27 Paul closes his theologically rich letter with praise to the only wise God through Jesus Christ for having chosen him as missioner to the Gentiles. Gospel: Luke 1:26-38 the beautiful Annunciation story brings us back to the beginning. Jesus is the Son of God and son of David from His very conception. He will occupy David s throne in an unending reign, but not in an earthly sense of the term. Christmas Cards Once again we are looking for family picture Christmas cards to decorate the bulletin board with. Please send yours in to the office. Thank you!

This year Christmas Eve falls on a Sunday. Our Sunday Mass schedule will be only the 8:00 and 10:15 Masses. We will not have the 11:45 Mass that morning. Starting at 4:00 we will begin our Christmas Eve Masses. We will have Mass at 4:00 in the Church and the Hall, 6:00 and Midnight. Christmas Day we will be having Mass at 10:15 and 11:45. Fourth Sunday of Advent Reflecting on the Word As we prepare to celebrate Christmas tomorrow we recognize that the world is imperfect just as it was when Gabriel came to Mary, and Jesus came to the world. Ready or not, Christ is on his way and our level of preparation will determine just how much we are able to receive. Jesus did not wait for the darkness to disappear to arrive; he came right in the middle of it and filled it with light! May the Lord also be with you as you make your final preparations to welcome the Christ Child. Something to think about on your home from Mass: What kind of message do you think your Guardian Angel has for you? Thank you to everyone who bought a 50/50 ticket. The winners are: Steven Weis $2,480 Shannon Sagan $1,860 Judith Russo $620 Jean Reeve $620 Antoinette Hoffman $620

6 December 24, 2017 Page 5 #566 The Christmas Creche Traditionally, the manger scene or crèche has been attributed to St. Francis of Assisi. St. Maria Maggiore Church in Rome was among the first to have crèche at the celebration of midnight Mass. The manger scene, with animals, shepherds, wise men, angels, and the holy family is based on a combination of birth accounts from gospels of Matthew and Luke. Having no detailed information about the scene from the gospels or other sources, we cannot know exactly how it appeared. Lack of factual information has little effect on faith. The crèche points our hearts and minds toward the true meaning of Christmas, that God became a human being in Jesus of Nazareth. The good news from the crèche is that there is no human circumstances so dire that God does not enter into it to hallow it St. Stephen Feast day December 26 Stephen was one of the seven deacons appointed by the apostles to aid the poor and to help govern the first Christian community. He spoke with such wisdom that the ranks of disciples in Jerusalem grew and grew. The elders of a certain synagogue plotted against Stephen. They falsely charged him with blasphemy against Moses and God. Stephen was brought before the Sanhedrin, and he gave a long defense of Christ s teachings. The did not pay attention to his words. Stephen knew he was going to be killed. Filled with the Holy Spirit, the brave young man looked up and saw a beautiful vision of Christ sitting at the right hand of the Father in the heavens. He was then sentenced to be stoned to death. Before he died, Stephen prayed aloud that the sins of his murderers not be held against them. Wild beasts kept watch over his body until his friends came and took it to be buried in an unmarked grave. Centuries later a priest was told by an angel that he would be able to find the grave of St. Stephen by the beautiful red roses that bloomed next to it, and so it happened. St. Stephen is the patron saint of Hungary, Poland, bricklayers, stonemasons, and deacons. Bring a friend back to the sacraments for Christmas! We wish all of our parishioners a very Merry Christmas!
