Look not on our sins, but on the faith of your Church, and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will, who live and reign for ever and ever. Amen During every Mass, the priest invites all to offer each other the sign of peace. We will offer each other the Sign of Peace by shaking hands and saying to each other the words Peace be with you. With these words and this gesture we connect with each other within God s family and share God s peace. Take a moment to reflect on what and who you believe are signs of peace in the world today. Reflect on how you can be a sign of peace to other people in your family, your school, your parish community. Remembrance Day November 11 th. At 11 am on 11 November 1918, the guns of the Western Front fell silent after more than four years of continuous warfare. Tomorrow is the anniversary of that Armistice. It is a day for Australians to stop at the 11th hour on the 11 th day of the 11th month to remember those who fought and died for our country in World War I and all wars and armed conflict. To honour this special day you might wish to wear a Red Poppy (symbol of remembrance of those who have died during wartime) or a sprig of Rosemary (symbol of remembrance of the dead). We have been lucky to secure Brett s services, as he is visiting Melbourne to conduct a number of these sessions in various places. There is a session for parents available at the Caroline Springs library the following day. Please see the information provided in this newsletter. School Bushdance information about this family event is provided in this newsletter. Numbers are limited because of the space required for bushdancing, so get your payment in ASAP. The students in each year level will be participating in dance sessions with the band, Blackberry Jam, tomorrow. Social Justice Group there is a notice in this newsletter from the Resurrection St Vincent de Paul Conference thanking the students for their efforts in providing a large number of Hygiene Hampers for distribution. This was a wonderful initiative from our Social Justice Group and one that received a generous and enthusiastic response from our community. We thank you all for your donations and commend the students involved for organising this activity. 2 FROM ST VINCENT DE PAUL, RESURRECTION CONFERENCE A big thankyou to Resurrection Primary school for their wonderful effort for making up 65+ bags of toiletries for the St Vincent De Paul Christmas hampers. Without the effort of Principal John Connors, Kathryn Barrie, Frances Barone and the senior classes (and other classes that donated), we would could never have put together such wonderful hampers - so to you all A BIG THANKYOU. Not everyone has money for shampoo, soap, toothpaste and toothbrushes. People have to pay rent & feed their families, and this is where St Vinnie s can help with your generous donations. Together with toys and food, The toiletries we will be able to give families a happy and joyful Christmas. Thankyou and have a peaceful and Holy Christmas. - Karen, Andrew, Pat and the St Vinnie s group. RECONCILIATION The sacrament of Reconciliation is sometimes referred to as Penance or Confession. It is through this sacrament that we bring children and their families to a fuller understanding of the love, compassion and forgiveness offered by God within a Christian community. The children are led to reflect on good and not so good choices. The SRC have organised for there to be a Casual Day Fundraiser on Friday the 18th of November. A gold coin donation is all that is required. We hope that the Resurrection School community get behind Lucas and support his wonderful effort making it through to National Level. 3 PHYS ED News As reported in last week s newsletter, one of our students, Lucas has accepted an invitation to participate in the School Sport Australia National Athletics Championships, being held in Sydney over the weekend beginning Friday 25th November. Accepting this invitation is not a simple or inexpensive exercise; To participate it will cost between $1400 and $1900 which covers the cost of Lucas Team Vic uniform, travel, insurance and some other expenses. This cost does not cover meals, accommodation or the travel costs of any family members that must attend the event with him! To help cover some of these costs, Resurrection will be holding a few events over the next 3 weeks. Over the next 3 Wednesdays, a Movie session will be held in the hall at lunchtimes, beginning at 11:07am. A gold coin donation will get you entry to watch an episode of Shaun the Sheep on 16th November, or Round the Twist on 23rd November. The SRC students will also be helping out, running a Guess the number of Lollies in the Jar competition, beginning on Monday 7th November and running until the end of next week. Entries will be 50c each or 3 guesses for $1. Students can enter at the table in the courtyard during lunchtimes. Parent Helpers Needed Please We are still planning for 2017 Interschool Sports. Next year we hope to resume competing in both the Summer and Winter sports and need some parent volunteers to help. If you are interested in helping coach any of the sports listed below and can commit to helping on Friday mornings in Term 1 and Friday afternoons in Term 2, can you please contact me via mshields@rskingspark.catholic.edu.au Anyone interested must hold a valid Working With Children s Check and you don t need to have a student in Year 6 to help out. We are happy for anyone in our school community with an interest in sports to help out. 4 CYBER SAFETY On Tuesday 15th November year 5/6 students will be presented with skills and knowledge necessary to use the internet safely, creating an awareness of their rights and responsibilities in the digital world. Brett Lee is the founder of Internet Safe Training. Brett is a former undercover internet detective and founder of Iness. Each year Brett talks to thousands of Students, Teachers and Parents about how to keep children safe online. 6 PARISH NEWS Vision Statement? This Thursday 17 November the parish group leaders and deputies are going to consider the desirability of our parish having a vision statement. Vision statements are often wordy feel good documents that are so broad in scope that they miss the mark. However a vision statement that is carefully considered, relevant and to the point can chart a path for our parish. All the more so if it is integrated with direction of Pope Francis Apostolic Letter Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel). Please pray for the Holy Spirit to guide our discussion. Pilgrim Walk To conclude the Year of Mercy Resurrection parishioners are invited to gather at the Holy Door (just to the right of front doors) in St Patrick s cathedral this Sunday 13 November at 1pm. Following a brief prayer service there will be a group photo at the Door of Mercy and then the opportunity for parishioners to walk back to our parish. Maps will be supplied. There are two official stops on the way back the first at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Kensington and the second at the Vietnamese Buddhist Temple in Braybrook. The estimated time for the walk is five hours. The idea is to pass through the Door of Mercy and then bring back God s love and mercy to our parish, to our neighbourhood, to our homes, in our hearts. 1 st Reconciliation Grade three Resurrection Primary school children are experiencing God s love and forgiveness in the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. Please keep the children and their families in your prayers. Working Bee Please try to come to our final working bee for the year on Saturday 26 November between 8.30 and 1pm. Generally working bees finish at with a B-B-Q at noon however the Maintenance group requests that parishioners try to stay until 1pm this time because of the amount of work to be completed. Port Phillip Prison Fr Noel will be celebrating Mass at Port Phillip prison this Tuesday 15 th November. There will be a Communion Service instead of mass at Resurrection at 9.20am on that day. Christ the King Since 1925 the Universal Church has celebrated the 34 th and last Sunday of Ordinary Time with the Feast of Christ the King. The feast honors the Christ s sovereignty over all persons, families, nations and the whole universe. For the past 16 years we as a parish, have celebrated this feast with a distinctive Samoan flavour. It gives us an opportunity as a parish to recognise and celebrate with our parishioners who trace their roots back to Samoa. The celebration will be at our 10.30am Mass on Sunday 20 th November. Christmas Party Each year on the first Wednesday of December (7 th December this year) instead of having our Parish meeting night, we will have our Christmas party. This is an opportunity for all our parishioners who are committed to a Parish Group, a Parish Ministry, or who helps the Parish is anyway (working bees, delivering Christmas and Easter Brochures etc) to come together to meet, greet, share and celebrate the great spirit that is Resurrection Parish. Parishioners who are attending are asked to bring along a salad or dessert to share. ST VINCENT DE PAUL Once again the St Vinnie s tree will be standing next to the piety store. There are name tags for boys and girls mainly from aged 5 to 12 years. Could all toys and hampers be brought back by the end of November. Christmas cakes or puddings are also needed to distribute to our Community and surrounding areas. Our tree will be taken down at the end of November. A big thank you to all parishioners who give generously through cash and food donations throughout the year. We often have surprise donations given to the poor box which are greatly appreciated and used to help families in need. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in...
