She was so pleased with his devotion that she entrusted him with the Holy Rosary as a mighty weapon and missioned him to teach it to others. The prayer of the Rosary is one of the most recognisable prayers in our Catholic Tradition. It is a biblical prayer, as it focuses on the major events in Jesus life. Above all, the Rosary is a prayer of the heart in which the repetition of the Hail Mary turns our thoughts towards Christ. It is a prayer that calls us to meditate on the Word of God. When we pray the rosary it is like walking in a garden of roses with Mary our Mother. The children have been learning about the rosary and the meaning behind the mysteries of the rosary and how this traditional prayer can be said at any time. During this month the children are being given the opportunity to join in prayer with the Parish Rosary group. This wonderful group of parishioners have welcomed the children and have explained how each week they pray for them and our school.
2 LADY NORTHCOTE CAMP IT was a cold and wet two days at Lady Northcote Camp in Bacchus Marsh for the Year 3 & 4 children. However, they still had a very enjoyable time and participated in a great range of indoor and outdoor activities. Special thanks to all the teachers that attended and assisted with the leading of the activities, supervision and ensuring each child s well-being was looked after. Special thanks to Mrs. Helen Sorokowski for all of her work in organising the many different facets of the camp and liaising with the camp staff and teachers to ensure the camp ran smoothly. Thanks to the parent helpers who attended and supported the teachers and assisted with the children during the two days. Your generous gift of time was much appreciated.
3 SENIOR SCHOOL Last week saw the children in the Senior School participate in a range of activities to assist them with their new unit of work YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE. The day started off with the students doing some physical activities, watching the Michelle Newland Youtube clip and Ted talk on Gratefulness. For the rest of the day the students rotated around different activities. Mrs.Krajinovic did art; Miss Sara did Zumba, Mrs Shaw did animated short stories, which reflected important life skills while Mr Hein led some sporting activities. We also had Miss Joy doing meditation and Miss Carreon and Mrs.Costabile doing RE. Other guest speakers were Laura Foster (Mrs.Davis sister) a nurse, from RMH and Mark Escano, a juicing trainer. The Senior School students really enjoyed this immersion day. It made them think about the topic You Only Live Once and that they need to live well - physically, spiritually, emotionally and mentally. VEGETABLE PATCH As you can see from the photos below that our Gardening Club and SRC children have been doing a fine job looking after our veggie patches. We all look forward to eating some of the great produce!

Alternatively, visit us at our website at An Information Night for Year families will be held on Wednesday 29 th October at 7.30pm. Last term the Literacy and Numeracy Cuppa chats were held for parents. They were run by Helen Cozmescu (Literacy Leader) and Jessica Davis (Numeracy Leader) In the newsletter over the next few weeks we will go through the different things that were discussed in these meetings. This week we will start with Foundation. Literacy Students are involved in a number of activities that are designed to help them improve their oral language, the skills needed to participate in group activities and their thinking. Each of the Prep classrooms have Learning Support Officers that work during the literacy block, four days per week. What can you do at home to help? Read - Home Reading Books, Library Books, online reading Write - diaries, lists, just for fun note Talk - involve your child in conversations that encourage thinking - Why do you think? What might happen if? How do you know? Word Games most used words Numeracy We want our foundation students to be able to confidently do the following by the end of the year Have an understanding of the language and processes of counting by numbers in sequences. To be able to connect numbers with their names, numerals and quantities e.g. 5 = FIVE = Subitise small collections of objects e.g. look at a group of objects and know the total without counting one by one. Represent practical situations to model addition and sharing Compare, order and make correspondences between collections beyond 20 What can you do to help at home? Count EVERY DAY! Start at 0 and count as far as your child can. Count forward backwards and introduce the idea of counting by 10 s then try 5 s. Include them in everyday maths! Ask for the assistance with cooking, shopping, counting money etc Work on Subitising. This means asking children to count a collection of objects without counting them one by one. E.g. Just looking at a group of buttons and just knowing that there is 6.
7 PARISH NEWS EVANGELII GAUDIUM (THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL) A Church which goes forth is a Church whose doors are open. Going out to others in order to reach the fringes of humanity does not mean rushing about aimlessly into the world. Often it is better simply to slow down, to put aside our eagerness in order to see and listen to others, to stop rushing from one thing to another and to remain with someone who has faltered along the way. At times we have to be like the father of the prodigal son, who always keeps his door open so that when the son returns, he can readily pass through it. #46 PRAISE@RESURRECTION The Joy of the Gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus. With Christ joy is constantly born anew. ~ Pope Francis. Have you read Pope Francis Evangelii Gaudium? If reading is not your thing or you haven t got time to sit down and open the book, you can come and listen to the podcast on Fridays beginning 7.30pm followed by discussions and fellowship. Praise@Resurrection Prayer Group Friday s at 7.30pm in the De-Gabrielle Room REMEMBERANCE DAY On Remembrance Day this year, well actually that night (11 November at 7.15pm) we are very fortunate to have Fr Frank O Loughlin coming to Resurrection. He is going to give a talk on the Eucharist. His talk is guaranteed to deepen your faith by expanding your understanding appreciation of the power of symbols. SENIORS ACTIVITIES OCTOBER/NOVEMBER Wednesday, 22nd October - Cuckoo Restaurant By popular demand we will be going to the Cuckoo Restaurant in the Dandenongs for lunch. Cost: $25.00 per person, all inclusive. If you wish to attend, please contact Jane for a seat on the bus. FOR ALL ENQUIRIES REGARDING SENIORS ACTIVITIES, PLEASE CONTACT JANE CARUANA ON OR ON HER MOBILE PLEASE READ THE WEEKLY AND MONTHLY BULLETINS REGULARLY AS SOME OF THESE EVENTS AND VENUES MIGHT CHANGE. UPDATED INFORMATION WILL ALSO BE ON THE NOTICE BOARD IN THE NARTHEX AREA OF THE CHURCH. ATTENTION: SEWERS! Do you love to sew? Have you got scraps of fabric you don t know what to do with? Relay for life distribute bandanas and caps for summer to cancer patients at the Footscray Hospital. Your fabric scraps can be cut into triangle shapes and hemmed. They need to be big enough to fit around your head and tied at the back. Patients are so grateful for all gifts and our generosity lets them know they are not forgotten. All donations can be left at the Parish Office in the Bulletin pigeon hole. Stewardship Corner thoughts on Giving. Render therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar s and to God the things that are God s. ~ Matthew 22:21 Everything we are and everything we have belongs to God. We aren t owners of anything, we are merely stewards of the gifts God has given each of us. All God is asking is that we give back a portion of what He gave us. This is the essence of Stewardship. God should be our first priority in everything. All else comes second.. Prayers of the Faithful That we realize we aren t owners of anything but merely stewards of the gifts God has given us..
