He also tells them that all who are baptised will be saved. The disciples did what he asked of them and it was not always an easy task but they, and all who came after, persevered. In reading a reflection written by Fr Richard Leonard, SJ, I made note of some interesting information about Christianity and Catholicism. Father Richard wrote the following. even though there have been tragic and shocking chapters in our 2,000 year (Christian) history, it s good for us to remember what God has done in and through us as we have gone out and proclaimed the saving love of Christ. Today 33% of the world s population are, at least nominally, Christian, numbering 2.1 billion people, making us the largest religion in the world. Our Catholic family accounts for just over half this group. We have around 1.1 billion Catholic brothers and sisters worldwide. Many Christians continue to be persecuted or discriminated for their faith, and some continue to die for their love of Christ which impels them to seek justice for all. And Fr Richard makes this point about the Ascension and this is where we are called to continue Christs work in the world as inheritors of his instruction to the disciples, the feast of the Ascension is not just an opportunity for us to look back on how we have tried to fulfil the command of the Lord to go out to the world. Indeed, this feast is primarily focused on where WE are going from here on in. Eucharist Evening Thankyou to the many Year Three parents who attended last night s Eucharist Parent Evening facilitated by Bernadette Venebles from the Catholic Education Office. The presentation focussed on the central idea the our Year Three students are inquiring into at present: As Catholics, we are nourished through the sacrament of Eucharist. Bernadette explored the concept of nourishment as food and as Eucharist and led all present to a deeper understanding of the importance of nourishing our faith through participation in God s great gift of the Eucharist. We greatly appreciated the willingness of all attendees to engage in discussion and their openness to sharing thoughts and ideas about their own experience of the Eucharist, about mass and about the shared responsibility for the faith education of our children. It was also great to have Fr Andrew in attendance and we extend thanks for his contribution also. Parking Restrictions. Moonee Valley Council have advised the school of slight changes to parking on school days. They are soon to impose no stopping restrictions between Doone and Ramsay Sts between 8:00 am and 9:00 am and 3:00 pm and 4:00 pm. This is a change to current time restrictions and apply to the west side of Fawkner St. This weekend the Parish look forward to welcoming those children from our school who will soon be receiving the sacrament of Holy Eucharist. A reminder to the families of these children to attend either the 5.30pm Mass on Saturday or the 10.00am Mass on Sunday. The sheer joy of being in PREP.. Especially when, after a long, cold week the fire brigade visit on a Friday afternoon, fires up the hoses attached the fire truck and unleashes pure fun and joy! Water was sprayed everywhere on the ground, in the air, in spirals and zig-zags all the while accompanied by squeals of delight and laughter. The afternoon antics certainly put smiles on the faces of those of us fortunate enough to witness the joys of childhood being enacted in our playground. 4 Page 4 Technology in the Classroom On the 11th of May, all three Grade Four classes skyped 4A in Mount Scopus College. We had to figure out each other's locations in the world. It was a challenge for all of us, and we had lots of fun. We found out that they were in the Eastern suburbs of Melbourne and were a private school. We did this to finalise our inquiry unit "How We Express Ourselves" Our central idea was "Digital technology is a powerful tool to communicate." We are very thankful that Mount Scopus College has given up their class time to do a Mystery Skype with us, thank you. Also as part of our inquiry we posted the things we loved about our mums on a grade 4 blog for Mother s Day. We also sent them a letter addressed to them in the mail. Our mums really enjoyed the unique experience of the blog. To see our comments go to We did this to show how fast information can travel online or by post. This unit of inquiry taught us how to be safe on the internet and how the internet helps us communicate. Verona Augello and Isabella Mingaars. Designers Create From Inspiration The Grade 6s celebrated the end of our How We Express Ourselves unit with a fashion show on Monday evening. Those who attended would surely agree that it was one to remember. To justify our Central Idea [Designers create from inspiration], we created out-there avante garde designs which were confidently modeled by our wonderful students. Many different things including buildings, graffiti, war\camouflage, food and the natural world around us inspired us. We used various materials to create our garment including tie-dye, flowing fabrics and even dresses made out of chocolate and lollies! All groups had ups and downs but teamwork and good communication skills proved to be the keys to our success. The Grade 6 groups were busy from the beginning of the unit until the last minutes before the show. Everyone had a ball and we were all delighted with how it turned out.
