The Church phone number ( ) will remain the same. The School now has its own phone number Please see Page 6 of the bulletin, which lists the new Staff phone numbers. Dear Brothers and Sisters, On July 18 th, myself and sixteen others will be leaving on our mission trip to San Lucas Toliman, Guatemala. The mission in San Lucas is a place that I have grown to love and I always find that going there renews my spirit and refocuses me to what is really important. The people of San Lucas welcome us and allow us to learn from them and walk with them. The mission was started more than fifty years ago by my good friend Fr. Greg Schaffer who passed away in His life of service and love for God s people continues to be an inspiration to me. The mission s website states well the purpose of our trip: The primary objective of both the short- and long-term volunteer programs at the San Lucas Parish is to make available to the volunteer a cross-cultural learning experience. We do not come to help but to learn and walk with the people of San Lucas. Through working alongside Guatemalans, volunteers and locals unite cultures to work in a culture of service. The ultimate goal is learning through sharing, and active accompaniment of the Guatemalan people in their daily lives. We are especially in need of people who attend the 5:00pm Saturday Mass, but encourage anyone who is interested to attend the training. This session is also open to anyone who would like a refresher or who was unable to attend the training last Fall. We ll meet in the Church in front of the statue of Mary, near the ambo. Trained ministers that regularly attend a different Mass are encouraged to offer assistance at our 5:00pm Saturday Mass once per quarter. According to the Environment and Art in Catholic Worship document: The assembly gathers in the presence of God to celebrate his saving deeds, liturgy s climate is one of awe, mystery, wonder, reverence, thanksgiving and praise. We count on God s grace to help us celebrate in this manner. In practical ways, how may this look? These are some thoughts that come to my mind today: Greeting one another in hospitality; participating as fully as we can in the prayers, hymns, and postures; dressing appropriately; remaining in our pew until after the final hymn; giving meaning to the presentation of the gifts through the prayers and sacrifices we have offered during the week; continue in Communion with the Body of Christ. This program is for anyone who has not completed the Catholic Church s initiation sacraments (Baptism, Confirmation, or 1 st Communion). Grief Support Group Beginning Thursday, August 17 th, a new Support Group will be started to help those who have lost a loved one. Since we all deal with grief in different ways and at different times, it can be good to share these experiences with others who can provide support & encouragement. Even though the grief doesn t go away, it is comforting to know that you do not have to deal with this alone. The Group will meet on the third Thursday of each month, beginning on August 17 th, at 1:30pm in the Library in the back of Church. Are you so caught up in worldly activities that you have no time for God? Stewardship is a lifestyle to be lived every day. It affects all the decisions we make. What we receive at Mass every Sunday should be shared with others all the other days of the week. WeCAB Volunteer Drivers Needed Our ridership is growing and we need drivers to help meet people s transportation needs in our community. Specifically, we have two consistent requests weekly to attend services at OLL, as well as numerous ride requests to the Grace Family Center. It takes about 2 weeks to become an active driver. Drivers do not call anyone, they simply select rides that fit into their schedules via our computer-based scheduling system.
