1 Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church 2385 Commerce Blvd. Mound, MN ourladyofthelake.com Fr. Tony O Neill, Pastor Dear Brothers and Sisters, November 4 th, st Sunday in Ordinary Time And to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is worth more than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices. -- Mark 12:33 This past Friday, we celebrated the feast of All Saints. In a famous homily for this feast, St. Bernard wrote; Why should our praise and glorification, or even the celebration of this feast day mean anything to the saints? What do they care about earthly honors when their heavenly Father honors them by fulfilling the faithful promise of the Son? Clearly, if we venerate their memory, it serves us, not them. In our Catholic Tradition, we have a host of men and women saints who have gone before us who were outstanding in virtue and holiness. They serve as signposts for us, pointing the way to Jesus and giving us a model of how we are to live. We are all called to holiness, yet we know that we need help. The saints are interceding for us, that we may have more of the Holy Spirit in our lives. May God grant us the grace of perseverance and greater measure of His Holy Spirit. God bless, Fr. Tony All Souls Commemoration Mass This Sunday, November 4 th, at the 10:30am Mass, during the Intercessions we will list the names of those who have died this past year. A family member or friend will come forward to receive a special candle with the name and date of death of their loved one. There will also be a special reception for them after Mass. Please pray with us for those who have passed during this last year. Please join us on Sunday, November 18 th, for a Reception for Sr. Carrie Link s 60 th Jubilee Year Celebration. Please plan on joining us for a Reception on Sunday, November 18 th, following the 10:30am Mass, to celebrate Sr. Carrie Link s 60 th Jubilee Year Celebration! Eucharistic Adoration Come to me, all of you who are weary and loaded down with burdens, and I will give you rest. --Matthew 11:28 Spend time this week with Jesus in Eucharistic Adoration in the St. John Paul II Chapel on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday from 8:30am - 10:00pm. 3 Liturgy Seeking God, Encountering God Thirty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time Mark 12:28b-34 The Gospel for today reminds me of being a first-year college student studying Philosophy of Man. Philosophers down through the centuries have grappled with and named various aspects of the human person, the body, soul, and mind. In the Schema, the great Israelite profession of faith, the overriding principle that summarizes all, the heart, soul, mind, and strength, are different ways of referring to the whole person. Love must encompass our entire life as we must love ourselves and extend love to every person. I can understand why no one dared to ask him (Jesus) any more questions. Blessed week! Sr. Carrie Link We pray for those in need. Please keep the following individuals in your prayers: Chris A. Mike Paxton Russell Barger Maddie Poranski Bob Blake Marcia Prins Dan Entinger Bobby Reil Kathy Gnitka Adam Richardt Dolores Kelly Paul Schueller Jennifer Lacy Mike Schulz Andra Olson We pray for those in the Military: Travis B. Freddie M. Joshua T. Nicholas J. Nicholas R. Darrell V. Attention Liturgical Ministers! 5 D i s c i p l e s h i p F a i t h I n A c t i o n Stewardship Thought And to love him with all your heart, with all your understanding, with all your strength, and to love your neighbor as yourself is worth more than all the burnt offerings and sacrifices. -- Mark 12:33 Of all the gifts that God gives us the one He wants the most is our heart. He wants us to share out of love, not out of obligation. Using our talent in parish ministry and contributing money to support our parish mission is important, but it is more important to spend time in prayer with God daily and discern how He is calling us to be generous with all of our gifts. Not just the visible ones, but the invisible ones like love, mercy, and forgiveness. Actuals Requirements October 27 th & 28 th, 2018 $ 17,671 $ 16,875 Fiscal YTD (7/1/18 to present) $268,529 $260,000 Have you considered the benefits of Automatic Giving? Due to many factors such as vacations, business trips, school events, and sickness, the average parishioner attends Sunday Mass at his or her home parish 40 weeks per year. In addition, we occasionally forget to bring our offering envelope or checkbook to Mass. When we miss a weekend Mass or two, for whatever reason, we all intend to make it up on our return. But you know what they say about Good Intentions. That means your parish may be receiving 20% less than you pledged. In today s digital age, many people do all their bill paying using automatic banking or credit cards. Why not use these convenient methods for your contributions to Our Lady of the Lake? Benefits to You: Convenient Consistent Safe & Secure Excellent tax records available 24/7 Easy to change anytime Go Green - less paper Supports one-time donations Schedule to coincide with payday Possible credit card rewards/miles Benefits to OLL: Predictable/steady income during the year Less administrative effort for the staff Increased contributions Safety To sign-up or if you have any questions, contact Char Nee, Administrative Assistant, at or cnee@ourla dyofthelake.com. Communion Minister Training Next Sunday, Nov. 11 th, at 9:30am there will be a training session for any new Communion Ministers, or for anyone who would like a refresher. Please meet me in the church in front of the statue of Mary after the 8:30am Mass. If you have questions, please contact Carla or clabore@ourladyofthelake.com. REMEMBERING OLL We invite you to remember Our Lady of the Lake in your will or to remember a loved one through a memorial gift.
