If you are on the fence about registering your child(ren) at Our Lady we still have room and offer transfer grants. Call or today to ask questions and find out more information. The theme for this coming year at school is Shine Your Light. I purposely chose Shine Your Light vs. Let Your Light Shine. I want to make sure we are purposely and actively sharing God s love with others. We will focus our efforts on learning and being a shining light for God not only in our school, but in our greater community. Our monthly school service projects will focus on being the hands and feet of Jesus while serving others. We will also introduce a few family service nights throughout the school year. Potluck and service; what could be better?! ALL are invited, so even if you are not a school family, please join us! If you would like to Shine Your Light and volunteer at the School, please let me know. We have many areas in which we are always looking for people to support our students and staff. DAILY UNLIMITED RIDE WRISTBANDS Online Price: $25 per wristband Regular price: $30 per wristband after Friday, Sept. 9 th, at 1:00pm Online wristband purchases may be picked up at the Festival Ticket Booth. Wristbands may also be purchased in the Church Office at the discounted price of $25 until 1:00pm on Friday, Sept. 9 th. Each wristband is good for one full day of rides at the Festival. Wristbands may be used any one of the three days at the Festival. KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS St. Michael Medals Do you have a family member or friend actively serving in the military? You can request a St. Michael Medal to be sent to them from the Knights of Columbus. There is no cost to you or the military service person. Please send the name of the person in the military, their rank, branch of service, and address to Dave Wilson, Grand Knight, at wilson6647@aim.com. He will forward the information to State Chaplain Raul, who will send the medal (and a prayer book if requested) directly to the serviceman/woman.

About Mass Intentions Every now and then it s helpful to review some of our faith beliefs and liturgical practices, so please see below regarding the topic of Mass Intentions. When a priest offers Holy Mass, he has three intentions: First, to offer the Mass reverently and validly in accord with the norms of the Church. Second, to offer the Mass in union with the whole Church and for the good of the whole Church. Third, to offer the Mass for a particular intention. That s where we come in. We may request a Mass to be offered for someone who is celebrating a birthday, a couple celebrating a wedding anniversary, someone who is sick, or, as is most common, for the repose of the soul of someone who has died. For me, the Communion of Saints is one of our most beautiful beliefs. We are one with all the living and those who have gone before us. This belief once again struck home for me recently when I accompanied my brother and sister-in-law as we visited the graves of their two children. For sure their children heard their prayers and their words: We will be with you soon. When did the practice of Mass offerings for the deceased begin? This practice originated in the very early Church, as evidenced on tomb inscriptions in the Roman catacombs of the 2 nd century. St. Ambrose (397) preached, We have loved them during life; let us not abandon them in death, until we have conducted them by our prayers into the house of the Lord. We clearly recognize the importance and value of the Holy Mass today. When we have a Mass offered for someone who has died, our prayers are more beneficial and comforting than another gesture of condolence. For sure, it is our way to focus on God s infinite mercy. It s never too late to touch the heart and soul of another. The $7.00 stipend for a Mass offering is symbolic of our sacrifice & intention. We are asking parishioners to pray for our intention. If you have an intention you wish to ask the community to pray for, stop by the Parish Office with your request. In your compassion, O merciful Father, gather to yourself all your children scattered throughout the world. 4 Support Group for Alzheimer s / Dementia Care Givers The next Support Group Meeting for anyone who is taking care of a Dementia or Alzheimer s patient is on Wednesday, Sept. 7 th, at 1:00pm in the Church Library. Marriage in Christ This Fall we will begin a 5-week program for couples who wish to strengthen their marriage and grow closer to Christ. It s designed for the newly married, for those who ve been married for 50 years - or anyone in between! Sometimes couples can grow apart over the years and lose their focus because of all the distractions of today s busy world. This program is designed to help couples come back together and strengthen their relationships with each other and with God. If interested, contact Carla at: x145 or clabore@ourladyofthelake.com. Bible Study Paul s Letter to the Romans Paul s Letter to the Romans was written to them before Paul had visited them. He uses the letter to introduce himself and assert his credentials. Paul also takes this opportunity to explain some of the basic theology of the Church, especially in regard to the requirements for salvation. Paul eventually gets to Rome, but it is in chains; he will be martyred there. Please join us to explore his teachings on Tuesdays at 1:30pm beginning on September 20 th, in the Church Library. Faith Formation Attention all families with children newborn to age 5! You are invited to a picnic on Sunday, August 28 th, at 11:30am in the Presentation Room. Join us for food, fellowship, a chance to meet other young families, and to see how OLL can help you grow in your faith and pass that faith on to your children. A Catechist Workshop is scheduled for Wednesday, September 7 th, from 6:30-8:00pm in the Presentation Room. All catechists and assistants are invited for dinner followed by a discussion on effective teaching techniques. Catechist manuals and calendars will be provided at that time. Join us at Loaves and Fishes at St. Gabriel s Church in Hopkins. Our next scheduled dates are Tuesday, October 4 th, and Tuesday, November 8 th. This training, along with a completed background check and signed Code of Conduct, is required for all volunteers who work with children, youth, and vulnerable adults. Grotto of the Redemption Bus Trip - NEW DATE! - Saturday, October 1 st 7:30am - 7:00pm The Grotto is often considered the Eighth Wonder of the World and the Iowan magazine has described the Grotto as a Miracle in Stone. A composite of nine separate grottos, each portrays a scene in the life of Christ. The largest man-made grotto in the world, it contains the largest collection of precious stones and gems found anywhere in one location. $50 includes Charter Bus Transportation, Donation to the Shrine, and a Guided Tour Complete & return this form with payment to Faith Formation or drop a labeled envelope in the Collection Basket at Mass BY SEPT. 1 st - Final Count for bus & Shrine is due at this time.
