3 FERUARY 25/26, 2017 ST ANDREW RC CHURCH PAGE 3 From Fr Peter s Desk 8th Sunday in Ordinary Time Dear Parish Family: On this last Sunday of Ordinary Time before we begin our Lenten season, we hear in our First Reading from the Book of Isaiah, a brief but significant conversation between Israel and God Zion is understood to be the whole people, though in fact it was the mount on which the Temple was constructed The cry of the people comes from a feeling of being abandoned by God God adopts a feminine persona and an image of motherhood to assure the people that they are deeply loved God will never forget His own people In our Second Reading, St Paul continues his sermon on the need for unity within the Church of Corinth This unity is based on all of them being stewards of the mysteries of God For Paul, to be a faithful disciple is to be a trustworthy servant of the Lord, spreading the Good News of the Gospel without standing in judgment of each other Jesus teaches, in today s Gospel, the importance of two virtues for discipleship The first is loyalty to God; the second is trust in God My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, as we prepare to enter into our Lenten season on Wednesday, with the imposition of Ashes, we are reminded that our Lenten discipleship is about making our way back to the Lord Our prayers, fasting and almsgiving aim to help us on this journey During this time of Lent, we will listen to the Lord reminding us of His everlasting mercy, of His covenant with us, of His forgiveness We ask the Lord to transform us, to help us grow in holiness God bless all of us on this journey God Bless You All, Fr Peter STEWARDSHIP Stewardship Reflection St Paul tells the Corinthians that we are servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God Can those around us tell by the way we live that we belong to Christ and all we are and have is His?
