2 APRIL 14/15, 2018 ST. ANDREW R.C. CHURCH PAGE 2 THE THEME Celebrating Easter is more than belief; it involves action on our part. If we really believe that Christ is risen and among us, it will be reflected tangibly in how we live. It may be expressed differently in each of us, but it will be evident. Luckily, his final words to us are about repentance and forgiveness, so we don t need to be perfect. But if we truly believe, those who encounter us will know it. THE READINGS ACTS OF THE APOSTLES 3:13-15, 17-19: Peter proclaims Jesus role and call for repentance. 1JOHN 2:1-5a: Knowing Christ is to keep his commandments. LUKE 24:35-48: Jesus final words are of forgiveness and repentance. -SCHEDULE OF EVENTS - SATURDAY, APRIL 22nd, :00 PM Mass Priest Fr. Manuel Lector G. Boziwick E.M. s V. DeVito, J. Holden, M. 3 APRIL 14/15, 2018 ST. ANDREW R.C. CHURCH PAGE 3 From Fr. Peter s Desk Third Sunday of Easter Dear Parish Family: In our First Reading on this Third Sunday of Easter, Peter addresses the Israelites after he has cured a man who was crippled from birth. Peter lets the crowd know that they rejected the Holy and Righteous One and put Him to death. He also tells them that the God of their fathers is the same God who raised Jesus, the Holy and Righteous One. Jesus suffering fulfilled the message of the prophets and his Resurrection is God s ultimate act of fidelity. Paul calls the Israelites to repentance and conversion, the same call that we, as faithful Catholics, receive throughout our lives. In our Second Reading, from the final chapter of John, we hear three short verses. Sin is the obvious topic of this passage. Although we hope to remain faithful, we are also realistic and know that we will sin. We are reminded that Jesus died as expiation for our sins and for this, we are grateful. Our Gospel passage tells us that once again, Jesus offers Peace to his disciples. The disciples are having a tough time believing all that has happened and Jesus recognizes this. Jesus invites them to see his hands and feet for themselves, as he did with Thomas in last weeks Gospel. Jesus eats with them and breaks open the Scriptures for them. Their growth in faith continues, as does ours. My dear brothers and sisters in Christ, both the first reading and the Gospel proclaim that God has brought the words of the prophets to fulfillment in the person of Jesus. Peter tells us that the Messiah suffered just as the prophets said he would and Jesus tells his disciples that everything written about him had to be fulfilled, including his suffering, death and resurrection. Today, God calls us into a closer union with Jesus. Let us take the time to always give thanks to God for this mercy and kindness. God Bless You All, Fr. Peter STEWARDSHIP Stewardship Reflection The disciples in today s Gospel come to know Jesus in the breaking of the bread. When we share what we have with those who are in need, we too will discover Jesus in our midst. Living Stewardship We are grateful this week for all stewards in our parish who, imitating the example of Jesus, reach out to others by bringing the Eucharist to the sick, hospitalized, homebound and elderly.
