1 Saint Catherine of Siena Parish April 15, 2018 Welcome, We ve been waiting for you! Dear Friends, I am truly overwhelmed with great gratitude for the blessings received this past Lent and now our ongoing Easter Season! The Lord has been so good to me and I have witnessed abundant blessings and graces among yourselves these past several weeks. With the fruitfulness of our Discovering Christ Series, the people who have gathered for Sister Barbara Moore's Scripture Study, the "breaking of bread" at our Open Meal, the heartfelt donations towards our "Empowerment Coat" almsgiving, blessing of foods/etc. Easter Baskets with shared stories, the phenomenal services of Holy Week and the abundant joy of welcoming John Nieznanski into our faith family at the Easter Vigil has made for a blessing in my heart and spirit beyond description. Last weekend, humbly, folks shared with me how much this past Lent and Holy Week meant to their spiritual journey. What more could one hope for than all of us finding discoveries in our parish family and celebrations that draw us closer to the promises of our Risen Brother, Jesus Christ?! Alleluia times seven! Right? We have had many new parishioners join us in recent months. Last Sunday the Staff hosted a brunch between masses to welcome these individuals. Someone asked me as we gathered, "Who are the new people?" I said anyone who you do not know. We had a great brunch and what a wonderful new gathering of folks who have discerned to join yourselves in worship and community. Please, I know I say it repeatedly, but do introduce yourselves to new faces and welcome them and ask why they have found Saint Catherine of Siena to be their home place of family and worship. These folks like yourselves enrich the person of faith I desire to be for the Risen Lord! So, if you did not attend the Adult Easter Egg Hunt, your loss! OMG, it was fabulous and we already have received suggestions on how to offer it next year (Imagine people offering suggestions)! Between the Parish Staff and fabulous parishioners and members of the community we had fabulous Adult Prizes! It was a worthwhile new endeavor and I felt bad, being part of the "official team" that I wasn't eligible for these great "Golden Egg" Prizes.I m just saying, next year will be bigger and better and those who participated, your suggestions have been noted! In closing, my heart, my continual changing heart, has been so blown away from my initial sharing on the First Sunday of Lent. Humbly, Vicki DeWald, a member of the Balloon Ministry, shared about a grace I was unaware of in the "Empowerment Coat" movement. Whew. Wow. OMG.You responded to my (our Balloon Ministry) appeal of what was just one opportunity of meeting the face of Jesus during the weeks of Lent. As I write this article, I sit in awe of the response of each of you who have made it possible for Saint Catherine of Siena to meet the face of Jesus in our homeless brothers and sisters in our community. 115, ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTEEN Empowerment Coats (as of this writing) have been offered by yourselves and others who have heard of this gift to those living on the streets as homeless sisters and brothers. Talk about Resurrection! Talk about life being given back to the folks who think it s over! This is the best of Easter Egg Hunts. This is the best of any found goodie in an Easter Basket. This is finding an Empty Tomb and knowing Jesus is Risen in the blessings of meeting Himself in the faces of our special and beloved sisters and brothers who are homeless. On the weekend of April 28/29, we will celebrate our Patroness, Saint Catherine of Siena, with a blessing of the Empowerment Coats at all our weekend liturgies. I know none of us are looking for individual recognition, but I would like to invite you to join me in blessing the remaining coats that will be going to the House of Mercy. We have already sent 50 coats to assist our homeless family. After our weekend liturgies, we will deliver the 65 Empowerment Coats to the House of Mercy. You, have not surprised me in your generosity. You, have blessed me in knowing why I know Jesus is alive during my daily living. So, it cannot be said often enough, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia! The Holy One, by any name, is the source of compassion. Believers practice compassion when we love one another. In this interactive program, we discuss how we can deepen the meaning of compassion in our own lives. 4 Page 4 St. Catherine of Siena Church, Mendon New York April 15, 2018 CAR CITY CARNIVAL RAIHN (Rochester Area Interfaith Homeless Network) offers the community an opportunity to learn about family homelessness in a meaningful, handson way by sleeping overnight in your caron Saturday, April 28, 5:00 pm until Sunday, April 29 at7:30 a.m. at St. Joseph schurch, 43 Gebhardt Rd., Penfield.Participants pay a Registration fee: $30 per adult; $15 for youth, ages Raise a minimum of $50 in pledges and receive a Car City T Shirt. This year join us for dinner, followed by a poverty simulation activity, exploring the barriers and journeys of families experiencing homelessness.then enjoy a carnival of 9 games and a 78foot inflatable obstacle course. The carnival will end with meditative yoga before climbing into your car for the night. Registration and more information call or caijulste@rochester.rr.com. Spring Out-Reach The Spring Social Ministry outreach will be next weekend April 21 and 22nd for Coffee Connections which helps women in recovery from addiction, trauma and homelessness. While promoting fair trade and care for the environment. Director Joy Bergfalk will describe their work. Fish bowls will be available for donations. The People of St. Catherine's welcomes all those who have recently joined our Parish Community. You are invited to share in this Ministry by donating toward the purchase of yarn used to create these shawls. Please, place your donation in the Basket on the Prayer Shawl Table or put it in an envelope marked PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY and drop it in the Collection Basket or send to the Parish Office. Saturday April 21st: Electronics Recycling pick up from 9am noon at Transfiguration. Free recycling of electronics with the exception of TV s and monitors. These items will have a cash fee ranging from $10 to $50. Sunday April 22nd: Community Garden Dedication to Don Cushing from 10:15am 10:30am at the back parking lot of Transfiguration. Join us for a blessing and dedication ceremony to recognize the incredible love and care that Don put into this community garden. After the ceremony, we will have a garden planning meeting to discuss next steps for the upcoming gardening season.
