1 Saint Martin of Tours People Ministering to People Roman Catholic Church and School Community Our Mission Statement Saint Martin of Tours is a Roman Catholic Community bound together by the gift of faith in Jesus Christ, as we join Him in offering thanks and praise to God the Father through the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit. Molded by the Word of God and nourished by the Bread of Life and the Cup of Salvation, we are sent to seek out the lost, bind the broken, feed the hungry, and to share the Good News of God s Mercy and Love for all. We welcome all people of goodwill to join us in building here on Earth the coming Reign of God and so to offer to people of all ages continued formation in our Christian Faith. 2 Easter Sunday April 21, 2019 A Reflection Easter Message from the Pastor Dear friends, The Parish Staff and I wish you a blessed Easter! The message of Easter is fullness and newness of life. Jesus rolls away the stone of discouragement, dread, doubt, defeat, fear and death. He allows the life of joy, peace, love, and light to permeate, so that there could be new beginnings. Christ invites us to journey with him to experience the same. During this Easter season at St Martin of Tours Parish, one adult will be baptized and fully initiated. Two adults will be received into Catholic Church. Together with them, 6 adults will celebrate their Confirmation. We also have 52 children celebrating their First Holy Communion. Bishop Oscar Cantu will confirm our youth on May 3. This year, we are excited to have 30 youth from our parish celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation. We celebrate with them and congratulate them! Our prayer is that each of them will roll away the stone of discouragement, dread, doubt, defeat, and fear to live their life from the fountain of love. CHRIST IS RISEN! HE IS RISEN INDEED! ALLE- LUIA! God bless you all! 4 Faith Formation Corner We re now starting 50 days of the Easter season so we transition from a reflective and introspective time into a time of joy and evangelization. Hopefully, our Lenten prayer practices can continue, but with a different focus. For this week s Faith Formation Corner we are going to focus on how Jesus resurrection may bring us new life today. As we begin, let us reflect on the mystery of Jesus resurrection. How much do we struggle with this foundational miracle? What do we actually believe about Jesus resurrection? Why didn t Jesus closest friends recognize him after the resurrection? Without first clarifying what we believe, we might be distracted as we continue this reflection. Now that we hopefully have greater clarity on our current beliefs surrounding the resurrection, let us each ask Jesus what aspects of his resurrection he d like us to focus on. Does Jesus want you to imagine what it was like to be one of his closest friends after he had been dead for one day? Two days? Does Jesus invite you to imagine looking into the tomb to only see burial cloths? What would be the first thing that you would hope Jesus would say to you after you encounter him alive again? What questions do you have for Jesus? (I invite you to try and sit with these questions for a minute or two and see what arises) As we enter into the Easter season, what do we sense Jesus wants us to celebrate? During the next 50 days, let us ask Jesus for the grace to spread joy to all those we encounter. Blessings, Daniel Youth Ministry The EDGE is our middle school (6-8th) grade youth ministry and meets 5:00-6:30pm in the Community Building on Tuesdays. We have ongoing Open Registration, so please visit to register your child. Life Teen is our high school youth ministry. We will be meeting most Sundays in the Bailey House from 7:00-9:00 pm. Sunday Children s Ministries Nursery The nursery is open for parents with children to use. Please enjoy this wonderful space where your child can feel comfortable and you can still observe Mass streamed on the TV. Children s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) designed for children ages Children are sent forth from the 8:30 and 10:00am Mass for their own special Liturgy of the Word. We have ongoing Open Registration, so please visit to register your child. For information on Children s Ministry please contact Daniel at (408) ext RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) This weekend is Easter Sunday and that means we are entering into the Easter season! Do you feel that the Lenten season prepared you to more fully celebrate Jesus Resurrection? What are you most excited to celebrate during this time of joy? If you d find it helpful to join others as we explore these questions, we meet weekly in the Parish Office and all are welcome! Please contact Daniel at (408) or dvalcazar@stmartin.org for more info. Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) This weekend we celebrate the newest members of our Catholic family! These three below celebrated the Sacraments of Initiation at the Easter Vigil. + Cang Truong + Lisa Brancatelli + Stan Soles We now welcome them as fully initiated Catholics into our life of faith. As their formation continues we call them Neophytes because they are newly incorporated into the mystical Body of Christ. Please keep them and the Neophytes throughout the Diocese of San Jose and the world in your prayers as they all enter the Easter season and continue their formation in Mystagogy (Postbaptismal Catechesis). We all have the responsibility to help them grow in their understanding of the Paschal Mystery (Passion, Death and Resurrection of Jesus). Thank you for your support and prayers!! If you have other questions or would like to join us for Mystagogy, we gather each Thursday, so bring your questions and an open heart. All are Welcome, AL- WAYS!
