1 BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Catholic Schools Week: This week, we will be joining with the rest of our Diocese to celebrate Catholic Schools. Mrs. Packham has planned a very special week for the students, staff, and parents of Blessed Sacrament School. The highlight of our week will be a special Mass with Bishop Campbell and all three local Catholic Schools at St. Francis de Sales Church. I am so grateful for the gift of Blessed Sacrament School. Our school mission statement is: Blessed Sacrament School is a Catholic, Christ-centered community whose mission is to educate the whole child body, mind, and soul in order to form life-long disciples of Christ who love the Truth, practice the Faith, and live virtuous lives. This mission statement is a daily reality in the life of Blessed Sacrament School. Our school is an amazing partnership between parents, staff, parishioners, and students. We are implementing the Disciples of Christ Virtue program created by the Dominican Sisters of Mary, Mother of the Eucharist. Through this curriculum our students are growing in virtue as they grow in knowledge. Our school is something that we can all be proud of. Please consider becoming an ambassador for our school by encouraging those you know to consider enrolling their children. And, our enrollment remains open so it is not too late to encourage a family to consider the special gem we call Blessed Sacrament School! Special Collection for those affected by Hurricane Irma: We will be taking up a collection on October 7-8 for all those affected by Hurricane Irma. As I write this, Hurricane Maria is pounding Puerto Rico. And, Mexico is dealing with another earthquake. With so many natural disasters upon our region of the world, now is a time for a heightened awareness of the needs of so many affected and our call to be loving and kind neighbors. We can be very grateful that we have excellent charities such as Catholic Charities USA for domestic disasters and Catholic Relief Services for international relief efforts, all in the name of the Catholic Church in the United States. Respect Life Sunday and Respect Life Month: Next Sunday, October 1st, is Respect Life Sunday. This Sunday provides us with a special opportunity to reflect on the gift and sacredness of every human life. We will have a special Rosary for Life starting at noon in the Church next Sunday for all who wish to participate. Parents with young and restless children are encouraged to bring their children to the Rosary! The more chaotic and life-filled the Rosary, with many children, the better! Sacred Heart Congress: Mark your calendars for Saturday, October 14th at Sacred Heart Columbus will be hosting the 6th annual Sacred Heart Congress on Saturday, October 14, 2017, from 8:00 am.-1:15 p.m. at Christ The King Catholic Church located on 2777 E. Livington Avenue, Columbus. The Congress will again have a great schedule and list of speakers, including Fr. John Paul Mary, Director of EWTN Pilgrimage Department and Vocation Director and Sister Joseph Andrew Bogdanowicz, OP, Vocations Director for the Dominican Sisters of Mary. The Congress is a great companion to the Catholic Men s and Women s Conferences. I strongly urge you to attend this great opportunity. There is no cost, and a freewill offering will be taken up during the Mass. For more NEWARK, OHIO information, visit the Sacred Heart Columbus website ( and click on the 2017 Congress button. Parish Picnic: Some have asked me about the Parish Picnic. It was a great success. We are planning next year s picnic to be sometime at the end of September or early October. We are also hoping to return to St. Peter and Paul Retreat Center. With a third Mass on Sunday (4th counting the Sunday Vigil Mass), we won t have a Mass next year at the picnic. The plan is to have some opportunity for prayer (perhaps a Rosary or Divine Mercy Chaplet), followed by the lunch. Cornhole Tournament: It has been a long-standing custom of the pastor s corner to only announce the results of the cornhole tournament (or any other competition in the parish for that matter) when the pastor wins. However, perhaps as a sign of personal growth, I have chosen to break from this tradition. I want to congratulate Jay Goletz and Terry Dawson on their winning of the cornhole tournament! Sincerely in Christ, Fr. Wilson Mass Intentions for the Week of September 24th Tuesday: Saints Cosmas and Damian, Martyrs 6:15 P.M.
