1 BLESSED SACRAMENT CHURCH Pastor s Corner Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Newark Catholic Update: I am happy to report that 40 students (Juniors and Seniors) are participating in the second Kairos retreat at Newark Catholic this weekend at St. Peter and Paul Retreat Center. Please keep the students in your prayers as this retreat has the potential to be a very powerful faith experience. There have been many blessings at Newark Catholic during this past year, including class retreats at the beginning of the year, two all-school Penance Services, a mission preached by Fr. Josh Wagner, an all school Catholic Identity program that emphasizes the Cardinal Virtues, the rededication of the Chapel, and a good number of students who participated in our March for Life. I am encouraged by the continued spiritual growth at Newark Catholic. The high school years are turbulent ones, as you know. Please continue to pray for all of our young people in the parish that they grow in faith, hope, and love. Catholicism Series: We continue with our series this Tuesday, March 12th at 7:00 p.m. in the School Library. If you haven t been or have missed some, you will still be able to benefit from each episode as they present one aspect of our faith. This Tuesday s DVD will focus on the Holy Eucharist: Word Made Flesh, True Bread From Heaven: The Mystery of the Liturgy and the Eucharist. Confession During Lent: Hopefully all parishioners who are able will make a sacramental confession during Lent. This coming Wednesday, there will be four priests (myself included) for our Parish Penance Service starting at 7:00 p.m. I continue to offer Confessions every Saturday from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and every Tuesday from 5:30-6:00 p.m. During the Mission (March 17th-21st), Fr. George McInnis will be available for an hour before and after each Mission to hear Confessions. Our School will be having a School Penance Service on Tuesday, March 19th at 10:15 a.m. for the schoolchildren. (I added this when I realized I would only be able to get three additional priests for our Parish Penance Service). If none of these times will work for you, please call me at the parish office to arrange another time. Mission Week: Please see the bulletin for the enclosed flyer highlighting Mission Week at Blessed Sacrament, March 17th-21st. I look forward to making this Mission together as a Parish Retreat. Please take advantage as your schedule permits to attend daily Mass, spend time in Adoration, attend the Mission Talks, and spend time afterwards to visit with your fellow parishioners in our socials each night after the Mission. Please continue to pray for the success of our Mission! God bless, Fr. Wilson NEWARK, OHIO Mass Intentions for the Week of March 10th Tuesday, Lenten Weekday 6:15 P.M. Next weekend s Scripture March 17th The Fifth Sunday of Lent 1st Reading: Isaiah 43:16-21 The Lord has done great things for us; we are filled with joy. Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 126:1-2, 2-3, 4-5, 6 2nd Reading: Philippians 3:8-14 Gospel: John 8:1-11 This week, we pray Liturgy of the Hours Seasonal Proper Week IV Choose Life Columnist George Will writes from time to time about his Down Syndrome son Jon, now 40 years old, considered a gift by all who know him. We should ponder (the practice that allows) our society (to) conduct a search and destroy mission to wipe people like Jon Will off the face of the earth. And it won t end with eugenic abortion. The odor of infanticide is in the wind too. Not only that, but people like my friend who become developmentally or cognitively disabled after birth could well also be targeted one day for mercy killing or refused necessary medical treatment toward the end that they die sooner rather than later. It has happened in history before. And with people like Terri Schiavo, it is happening here and now. (Wesley J. Smith, on his Internet blog) Our Stewardship Collection March 3rd Budgeted per Week $ 10, Offertory (177 envelopes) $ 7, Loose Cash $ Average Auto Withdrawal $ 2, (99 households average weekly giving) Total $ 10, Budget YTD (7/1/12-3/3/13) $ 366, Actual Offerings YTD $ 375, Building Fund Collection $ 1, Building Fund Collection YTD $ 21, Building Loan Balance as of 2/13/13 $ 2,214, The stewardship message in the parable of the prodigal son is that it is never too late to become a good steward. Blessed is the elder brother who had been a good steward all along, but blessed, too, is the prodigal, who had to lose all he had in order to understand the value of what he d been given. Jennifer Jewett 40 Days for Life is February 13th-March 24th The Greater Columbus community is uniting with hundreds of cities from all 50 states in the 40 Days for Life campaign. Faithful believers are praying that this effort will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in America. Today, we are reminded of the Gospel message to love all our brothers and sisters around the world and treat them with respect. How will you help Jesus in disguise? Please be generous in today s Collection.
