2 FROM FATHER DOUG S DESK Ideas for the Property And Taize Prayer During Advent we sang hymns from Taize. Taize is a small village in France where an ecumenical group of monks began to pray using reflection upon a bible verse or spiritual phrase. The verse is sung and repeated ten or more times as those who sing it meditate upon its words. Taize hymns are easy to sing. You may not know them at first, but by the third or fourth time, you will have the words down. From there, it is time to chant and reflect on the words as they apply to our Eucharistic celebration. Taize hymns are so designated at the bottom of the hymn. Suggestions have come in for the property that will officially be ours in the spring. Here are some of the suggestions: Relocate Bountiful Basement there. Build a building made to include better access for patrons and deliveries, i.e., handicap access, drive through, pick up of items; It is unlawful to hunt deer, but it is not unlawful to dig a big pit that the deer would fall into and break their necks. Deer problem solved eventually. Also give the deer meat to needy parishioners, bountiful basement clients, parish cook out or for use to make sandwiches at bingo; A swimming pool; A skateboard park; Expand the edible forest and plant fruit trees and flowers and berry bushes; Let Birchwood school use the property to build a gym on the ground floor and four classrooms on the second floor; A paved and covered parish picnic pavilion that could double as a shelter for the monthly produce giveaway; A labyrinth might be nice. This could easily be done with hedges and shrubbery. The people that live in Ascension Village do not have enough outdoor space to enjoy the outside and each other. It would be nice for them to have some congregating area even for their visiting family member. Also a separate nice place for the smokers so they don t feel like second-class citizens. For example: picnic tables, a grill, seating, a water feature. I m sure that the residents can offer viable options. Thanks for asking; I nice flower garden would look pretty if we could find something that the deer do not eat; A large fire pit or two would be nice. I have seen them on the beaches in Florida and California. They are very popular. People gather at 7:00am to reserve them. Families gather on the beach and have family cookouts, campfires and marshmallow roasts. Construction of a pit would only involve a few bags of cement and permanent benches could be molded as well. That would not cost much; Leave it as it is. Our world needs as much green space as possible; How about a pumpkin patch?; Build a shrine with a small chapel. Weekday Mass could be held there. 3 AROUND THE PARISH & OTHER PARISH NEWS DISCIPLE OF THE WEEK We begin 2016 by thanking Sig Sesplankis as disciple of the week. Sig sits on the board of Bellaire Puritas Development Corporation, our city CDC. He keeps us abreast of what is going on in the neighborhood, both how we as a parish can serve our neighborhood as well as how we can benefit from government funding. Thank you Sig for this service to our parish. Please join us as we begin the year by praying for Blessed Trinity, our world, and any needs we bring as we gather for GPS (Get Prayer Started) at the Joseph Center on Thursday, January 7th from 7-8:15 PM. COUNCILMAN BRIAN KAZY IS INVITING YOU to his 1 st Annual State of the Ward Address, Wednesday, January 6 th, at 6pm in Fogarty Hall. At this meeting, Ward 16 residents will be updated on work that the council office undertook during the previous year and on projects that are set to take place in the near future. Residents will also be given the opportunity to interact with city departments, utilities, and community organizations at information tables. Bring a friend or neighbor and come learn about all that is taking place in your community! Men s Ministry Prayer breakfast will be held on January 16th from 8:30-10:30 a.m. in Fogarty Hall.
