2 From Fr. Doug s Desk Fogarty Hall Now Available Now that bingo has ended, Fogarty Hall is now available on most Thursday and Saturday nights, especially Saturdays. We got so used to the church basement being used by bingo that we forgot how to use it for parish activities. The time has come! One possible use would be for a family movie night. There are many great movies that could be shown. A variation on this theme would be movies with a religious theme followed by a discussion of the movie. This could be a family event or adults only. Popcorn would be available at both. Another option would be an evening of cards. Remember when people actually sat at tables with cards in their hands and played canasta, pinochle, euchre, or bridge? If there is interest, we could revive this old pastime. Or how about a board game tournament? Any Scrabble players out there? Or Checkers? Or Chutes and Ladders? Or Risk? Or Monopoly? Or Backgammon? Another option would be to create our own tailor-made game shows. It would be easy to create a Deal or No Deal, but instead of a million dollar prize, the prize would be $1000. Anywhere from fifty to a hundred players would enter a drawing at $10 each. That evening their number would be drawn and they would have a chance to win anywhere from $.01 to $1,000. We could all root for the lucky contestant to win the big prize. The kitchen would be open and we could serve hamburgers and hot dogs and fries and nachos. It could be a fun evening for the parish, and someone could go home $1000 richer. If we had a good turnout, we could have two games in one night! Fogarty could also be available for large parties or wedding receptions. If there was an interest in that, the Finance Council would have to figure out how much to rent it out for. There is also the possibility of starting other fundraisers for the church. We are all probably familiar with what some other parishes do: silent auction, dinner dances, reverse raffles, etc. These and other suggestions might be social events as well. The best news is that Birchwood School is growing. You may have noticed the beautiful landscaping that they designed and paid for in front of the school. This is phase one of a six phase project that includes the back field. In addition Birchwood needs more space for classrooms and activities. They will be renting Fogarty Hall from us from Monday through Friday afternoon as well as other dates that they need for fundraising and shows. We will still have use of Fogarty Hall on most weekends for Fish Fries, Coffee and Donuts, Community Meals, Men s Ministry and other weekend functions. This is a good use of our space, and it adds a few bucks to our coffers. So come on down and let s make a deal. Don t let our parish be in jeopardy of inactivity. Offer your suggestions on how to spend a fun Saturday evening to one of the parish staff. Join our parish community for coffee and donuts after Mass on the 3rd Sunday of each month in Fogarty Hall. Mark your Calendars for NEXT Sunday, July 17th. See you then! Sacramental Preparation If you have a child in second grade or older (First Communion) or eighth grade or older (Confirmation) who would like to receive sacraments this year, now is the time to enroll in a sacramental preparation program for First Communion or Confirmation. Enrollment forms are available at the back table in church, at the rectory, and soon on the parish website. PSR REGISTRATION If your elementary age child attends a non-catholic school, s/he should be enrolled in a program for religious education. Blessed Trinity offers PSR. Children who would like to prepare for sacraments must be enrolled in a Catholic school or PSR. Register today! Registration forms are on the back table in church. The Blessed Trinity contingent consisted of banner carriers, half a dozen cyclists, 3 well-decorated vehicles (1 with Christian music playing), and many walkers distributing candy to the crowd. A special thank you to all those who donated candy. We could not have had a great presence without the participation of so many. We will be displaying photos of the event in the church entrance.
