1 Znanstveni kolokvij Ranonovovjekovna rukopisna baština u Hrvatskoj: artefakt, tekst, kontekst Filozofski fakultet Sveučilišta u Zagrebu 18. listopada 2018.

3 O temi skupa Ideja za kolokvij o rukopisnoj baštini nastala je u okviru projekta HRZZ-a Tekstualne mreže ranonovovjekovne Hrvatske, koji čine mahom klasični filolozi i kroatisti. Budući da je sjedište projekta na Filozofskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Zagrebu, kao suorganizatori pridružili su se i Odsjek za klasičnu filologiju i Odsjek za kroatistiku. Kolokvij je zamišljen s namjerom da se izlaganjima propita širok raspon pitanja vezanih uz rukopise i rukopisnu kulturu hrvatskih krajeva u ranom novom vijeku. Filolozi i povjesničari koji su se bavili ranim novovjekovljem bili su, doduše, upućeni na proučavanje rukopisa, no taj se rad najčešće smatrao tek pripremnim poslom za daljnja istraživanja. Posljednjih se pak desetljeća na međunarodnoj sceni, a sve više i u domaćim okvirima, u okrilju povijesti knjige kao relativno mlade poddiscipline, istraživačke perspektive okreću prema istraživanju rukopisne kulture u periodu nakon pojave tiskarskoga stroja, kada rukopisi supostoje s tiskanom knjigom. Nadalje, nedostatak kritičkih izdanja hrvatskih autora ranoga novovjekovlja također upućuje na važnost proučavanja rukopisa. Stoga je zamisao ovoga skupa da se, uz tradicionalna egdotička, kodikološka i paleografska pitanja, iz različitih očišta osvijetle raznovrsni aspekti ranonovovjekovne rukopisne kulture i rukopisa kao materijalnih artefakata, prepisivačkih praksi, nastanka i transmisije rukopisa, njihove cirkulacije i društvene uloge, konteksta u kojima su oni nastajali i širili se, statusa prepisivača i tipova publike koja je rukopise konzumirala, kao i modusa supostojanja rukopisa i tiskane knjige. 13 Tomislav Bogdan Filozofski fakultet Sveučilišta u Zagrebu Još koja o Ranjininu zborniku Zbornik Nikše Ranjine jedan je od najpoznatijih i najvažnijih rukopisnih zbornika u starijoj hrvatskoj književnosti. On je važno svjedočanstvo o popularnosti prvih pjesnika dubrovačke vernakularne renesansne književnosti, kao i dokaz o ranoj raširenosti, gotovo prevlasti, svjetovne, ljubavne lirike u Dubrovniku na prijelazu iz 15. u 16. stoljeće. Istodobno je i kodikološki zanimljiv jer je vrlo složene kompozicije te sastavljen na temelju brojnih izvora. Iako je odavno izgubljen, Zbornik je temeljito proučen i precizno opisan u radovima starijih filologa. Ovdje će se pokušati dokučiti zbog čega se u hrvatskoj književnoj historiografiji vrlo vrijedne spoznaje o kompoziciji Zbornika, jednom s mukom stečene, danas tako teško usvajaju, štoviše zanemaruju. Također će se pokušati razmišljati o odnosu autorske renesansne književnosti i tradicije rukopisnog prenošenja tekstova. U Ranjininu zborniku su, naime, uglavnom sakupljeni tekstovi nastali u okviru visoke, autorske književnosti, ali se pokušavaju rukopisno tradirati prema načelima starije, srednjovjekovne književne kulture. Another Word on Ranjina s Miscellany Zbornik Nikše Ranjine ( Nikša Ranjina s Miscellany ) is one of the most famous and most important handwritten miscellanies in older Croatian literature. It bears testimony to the popularity of the first poets from the vernacular 13

14 Renaissance literature in Dubrovnik, as well as to the early presence, or even predominance, of vernacular love lyric in Dubrovnik at the turn of the 16 th century. At the same time, it is interesting from the point of view of codicology due to its very complex organisation and compilation from numerous sources. Even though it had been long lost, the Miscellany was closely studied and accurately described in the works of older philologists. An attempt will be made to work out why in Croatian literary historiography valuable knowledge on the composition of the Miscellany, once painstakingly gained, is today so difficult to acquire or is even neglected. The relationship between authored Renaissance literature and the tradition of handwritten text transfer will also be considered. Ranjina s Miscellany is, in fact, mainly composed of texts originating from high authored literature that are interpreted in manuscripts according to the principles of older, medieval literary culture. 14

15 Irena Bratičević Filozofski fakultet Sveučilišta u Zagrebu Ivan Luka Volantić ( ) i dubrovačka kultura knjige Najnovija istraživanja prepisivačkoga i priređivačkoga rada dubrovačkih kulturnih pregalaca na rukopisima Gundulićeva Osmana i Kunićeve poezije prepoznala su važnost i zasluge samozatajnoga notara u službi Dubrovačke Republike Ivana Luke Volantića ( ). O njegovu životu i djelovanju, koje se nije iscrpilo u kritičkom priređivanju tekstova spomenute dvojice autora, još se uvijek nedovoljno zna. Mnogo podataka o njegovu zalaganju na korist dubrovačke književne kulture nalazi se u pismima koja je u razdoblju od gotovo dvadeset godina ( ) slao Iacopu Coletiju ( ), nastavljaču Riceputijeva i Farlatijeva rada na crkvenopovijesnoj sintezi Illyricum sacrum. Kakvu je ulogu Volantić imao u objavljivanju šestoga sveska te povijesti (onog o Crkvi u Dubrovniku), na koje je načine pomagao rad triju dubrovačkih tiskara, o čijim je rukopisnim ostavštinama skrbio, koju je literaturu želio čitati i kojim se materijalima za pisanje služio neka su od pitanja na koja odgovore daje devedeset sačuvanih pisama. Kritički prikaz ovih pisama pokazat će da su ona vrijedan izvor za osvjetljavanje ne samo Volantićeve biografije nego i kulture rukopisa i knjige u Dubrovniku koncem osamnaestog i početkom devetnaestog stoljeća. 15

16 Ivan Luka Volantić ( ) and the Ragusan Book Culture The most recent research on the copying and editorial efforts of Ragusan cultural workers on the manuscripts of Gundulić s Osman and Kunić s poetry recognized the importance and merits of the unpretentious notary in the service of the Ragusan Republic, Ivan Luka Volantić ( ). Even though, little is known of his life and work, which had not been exhausted in the critical edition of the texts of the two authors mentioned. A lot of information concerning his efforts to the benefit of Ragusan literary culture is found in the letters which he sent, in the period of almost twenty years ( ), to Iacopo Coleti ( ), who continued Riceputi s and Farlati s work on the Church history Illyricum sacrum. What role did Volantić play in the publishing of the sixth volume of this history (the one on the Church in Ragusa), how did he assist the work of three Ragusan printing shops?, whose manuscript legacies did he take care of?, what did he want to read and which writing materials did he use? these are some of the questions on which ninety preserved letters give answers to. A critical presentation of these letters will show that they are a valuable source for illuminating not only Volantić s biography but also the manuscript and book culture in Ragusa at the end of the 18 th and the beginning of the 19 th century. 16

17 Šime Demo Hrvatski studiji Sveučilišta u Zagrebu Sam svoj slagar. Iskustvo pripremanja kritičkog izdanja rukopisa u LaTeX-u LaTeX je elektronički sustav koji služi za oblikovanje pisanih dokumenata, osobito prikladan za znanstvene radove s nestandardnim znakovima i kompleksnim strukturama. S jedne strane on nudi veliku moć upravljanja izgledom dokumenta uz maksimalnu automatizaciju procesuiranja; s druge strane način na koji funkcionira zahtijeva mentalnu prilagodbu na rad različit od onoga na koji smo navikli služeći se konvencionalnim alatima za pripremu teksta. U referatu će se na temelju iskustva priređivanja kritičkog izdanja u sklopu projekta Tekstualne mreže ranonovovjekovne Hrvatske predstaviti LaTeX te promotriti njegova privlačna i manje privlačna svojstva. Postavit će se i šire pitanje autorskog prodiranja u područje tipografskog rada, odnosno promjena u proizvodnoj liniji izdavanja znanstvenog rukopisa. Your Own Typesetter. An Experience of Preparing a Critical Edition of a Manuscript With LaTeX LaTeX is an electronic system used for producing written documents, being especially suitable for research papers containing non-standard symbols and complex structures. On the one hand, it provides effective control over the ap- 17

18 pearance of the document, along with maximal process automation; on the other, the way it works demands that one conforms to routines different from the ones we have been used to by employing conventional text processors. Using the experience of preparing a critical edition within the Textual Networks of Early Modern Croatia project, in this talk we will present LaTeX and observe its appealing and less appealing features. We will also address the more general issue of author interference with the typographer s job, applying changes in the production line in the process of publishing a research manuscript. 18

19 Irena Galić Bešker Nacionalna i sveučilišna knjižnica u Zagrebu Izvorni rukopisi i prijepisi: primjeri iz Zbirke rukopisa i starih knjiga Nacionalne i sveučilišne knjižnice u Zagrebu Razvijena prepisivačka djelatnost u hrvatskim zemljama kompenzirala je nedostatak tiskarske djelatnosti u razvijenim gradskim sredinama jadranske obale (Rijeka, Zadar, Split, Dubrovnik) i kontinenta (Osijek, Varaždin). Zbog tog su velikog nedostatka djela značajnih autora ranijih razdoblja tiskana mahom izvan hrvatskih granica (Firenca, Rim, Venecija). Kad se usporede rukopisna djela hrvatskih autora starijih razdoblja, vidljivo je da su u rukopisnoj zbirci središnje knjižnice zagrebačkog sveučilišta djela autora južne Hrvatske sačuvana u prijepisima, dok su djela autora sjeverne Hrvatske sačuvana kao izvorni rukopisi (autografi). Značajna djela autora južne Hrvatske u Zbirci rukopisa i starih knjiga NSK sačuvana su u prijepisima. Djela su se prepisivala samostalno ili kao dio većih zbirki (antologija). Velik dio tih prijepisa potječe iz knjižnice Ljudevita Gaja, prvaka hrvatskog narodnog preporoda. S druge strane, djela značajnih autora sjeverne Hrvatske (Krčelić, Mikoci, Patačić, Vitezović) sačuvana su kao autografi. Takav nerazmjer može se tumačiti razlozima kulturne i povijesne naravi. Na primjeru omanje zbirke rukopisa s djelima Ignjata Đurđevića ( ) pokazat ćemo ne samo upućenost sjeverne Hrvatske na književnu tradiciju hrvatskog juga, 19

20 već i nerazmjer u zastupljenosti izvornih rukopisa i prijepisâ u rukopisnom fondu središnje knjižnice zagrebačkog sveučilišta. Iz knjižnice Ljudevita Gaja potječu sljedeća rukopisna djela Ignjata Đurđevića: Raslike pjesni (R 3185), Piesni raslike (R 3130), Narodne poslovice dubrovačke (R 3420), Antiquitatum Illyricarum partes aliquot (R 3893), Pjesni razlike (R 3688), Suze Marunkove (R 3195) i Pjesni razlike (R 4354). Svi su nabrojeni rukopisi prijepisi, osim rukopisa na signaturi R 3893, koji je jedini u ovoj zbirci autograf. Original Manuscripts and Copies: Examples From the Manuscripts and Old Books Collection of the National and University Library in Zagreb Lack of printing and printing houses in urban centres along the Adriatic Coast (Rijeka, Zadar, Split and Dubrovnik) and on the continent (Osijek, Varaždin) was overcome thanks to copying activities developed in Croatian historical lands. For this reason, numerous works of significant Croatian authors of earlier periods were printed outside Croatia (Firenze, Rome, and Venice). The predominance of manuscript copies of southern authors works is noticeable in the Manuscripts Collection of the National and University Library in Zagreb. Works written by authors from south Croatia are mostly copies of original manuscripts while works written by authors from northern Croatia are kept as original manuscripts. Original works from earlier centuries were copied as a whole or form an integral part of miscellanea or anthologies. A great part of those copies originates from the library of Ljudevit Gaj, the leader of the Croatian national movement. On the other hand, works written by significant authors from the north (Baltazar Adam Krčelić, Josip Mikoci, Baltazar Patačić, Pavao Ritter Vitezović) have 20

21 been preserved as authographs. Such a disproportion between originally written and copied manuscripts is explainable culturally and historically. Here we aim to present a rather small collection of manuscript works of the poet Ignjat Đurđević ( ) showing not only northern Croatia orientation towards southern literary tradition but a disproportion between numbers of original manuscripts and copies in the Manuscripts Collection of the National and University Library in Zagreb. Here follows a list of manuscript works of Ignjat Đurđević which originate from Ljudevit Gaj s library: Raslike pjesni (R 3185), Piesni raslike (R 3130), Narodne poslovice dubrovačke (R 3420), Antiquitatum Illyricarum partes aliquot (R 3893), Pjesni razlike (R 3688), Suze Marunkove (R 3195) and Pjesni razlike (R 4354). All listed manuscripts are copies except one. The manuscript entitled Antiquitatum Illyricarum partes aliquot (R 3893) is the only autograph in the collection. 21

22 Dolores Grmača Filozofski fakultet Sveučilišta u Zagrebu Divkovićev mali Nauk između rukopisa i tiska U fokusu izlaganja bit će modusi supostojanja rukopisa i tiskane knjige na primjeru jednoga od najpopularnijih djela na narodnome jeziku, Nauk krstjanski s mnozijemi stvari duhovnijemi i vele bogoljubnijemi Matije Divkovića ( ), koje je od do objavljeno u dvadesetak izdanja na bosanici, ali i vrlo često prepisivano sve do sredine 19. st. Poznato je naime pet glagoljskih rukopisa koji sadrže prije pise iz Divkovićevih djela, među kojima je posebno važan prijepis Antona Depope na otoku Krku ( ), te prijepis Ante Raspovića koji nastaje u Zadru Divkovićeva su djela čitana i u Dubrovniku. Prijepise na latinicu načinio je Đuro Matijašević krajem 17. stoljeća. U novootvorenoj dubrovačkoj tiskari Toma Ivanović na latinici tiska Plač B. D. Marije iz malog Nauka. Ovom će prigodom također biti predstavljen dosad nepoznati prijepis na latinicu iz pera fra Mate Mikića koji nastaje u Tuzli s posvetom fra Martinu Nediću datiranom 4. listopada Zanimljive su sličnosti u intervencijama priređivača Divkovićeva malog Nauka i prepisivačkih praksi. Pojedina su izdanja naime ikavizirana i čakavizirana (kao u glagoljskim prijepisima), na nekim su mjestima stihovi skraćivani, a na drugima dodavani. Stoga će se analizirati postupci prilagodbe teksta publici te, što je osobito važno, utjecaj rukopisnoga prenošenja teksta koji je vidljiv u pojedinim izdanjima, a posebice u latiničkom izdanju koje je priredio don Anton Gladilić (Venecija 1709). 22

23 Matija Divković s Small Doctrine Between Manuscript and Print The paper focuses on the modes of coexistence of manuscripts and printed books as exemplified by one of the most popular vernacular works Nauk krstjanski s mnozijemi stvari duhovnijemi i vele bogoljubnijemi by Matija Divković ( ) published in about twenty editions in the bosanica (Croatian Cyrillic) script from 1616 to 1738, and repeatedly copied until the middle of the 19 th century. Five Glagolitic manuscripts are known to exist containing transcripts from Divković s works. Among those, particularly important are the transcript of Anton Depope ( ) from the Island of Krk and the transcript of Ante Raspović created in Zadar in Divković s works were also read in Dubrovnik. Transcripts in Latin script were made by Đuro Matijašević at the end of the 17 th century. In 1786, in the newly opened printing house in Dubrovnik, Toma Ivanović printed a Latin script edition of The Tears of the Blessed Virgin Mary from the small Doctrine. On this occasion, a so far unknown Latin script transcript will also be presented, written by Fr. Mate Mikić in Tuzla, dated 4 October 1860, and dedicated to Fr. Martin Nedić. There are interesting similarities between the interventions made by the editors of Divković s small Doctrine and the copying practices. In fact, certain editions were adapted to Ikavian and Čakavian (as in the Glagolitic transcripts), with the verses either shortened or added. The analysis thus includes the processes of adapting the text to the audience and, importantly, the influence of handwritten text transfer, which can be observed in some editions, particularly in the Latin script edition by Anton Gladilić (Venice, 1709). 23

24 Neven Jovanović Filozofski fakultet Sveučilišta u Zagrebu Rukopisni izvori govora Nikole Modruškog za Pietra Riarija (1474) Nadgrobni govor modruškog biskupa Nikole ( ), rodom Kotoranina, za Pietra Riarija ( ), franjevca i kardinala Sv. Siksta te utjecajnog nećaka pape Siksta IV, prva je poznata tiskom objavljena knjiga hrvatskog autora. U razdoblju govor je doživio sedam izdanja, ali sačuvan je i u šest prijepisa; danas se čuvaju u Münchenu, Rimu i Vatikanu, Veneciji, Palermu i Olomoucu. Ovo će izlaganje dati pregled rukopisne predaje Nikolina govora i pokazati što grafije i konteksti sugeriraju o rukopisnim svjedocima predaje, a što tekstualne inačice govore o odnosu rukopisa i tiskanih verzija. Na kraju ćemo predložiti stemma codicum, skicu odnosa svjedoka izrađenu na osnovi ključnih varijanata, i put prema odgovoru na pitanje: Što je zapravo napisao Nikola Modruški u govoru za Riarija? Manuscript Sources of the Oration of Nicholas, Bishop of Modruš, for Pietro Riario (1474) The funeral oration which Nicholas, bishop of Modruš, born in Kotor ( ) held in 1474 in Rome for Pietro Riario, a Franciscan friar, cardinal of St. Sixtus, and politically influential nephew of Pope Sixtus IV, happens to be the first printed book by a Croatian author. In the ten years from 1474 to 1484 Nicholas s oration was printed seven times. It survives also in six manuscript copies, held today in 24

25 Munich, Rome, the Vatican, Venice, Palermo and Olomouc. The paper surveys the manuscript tradition of Nicholas s oration, aiming to tell the story of manuscript witnesses from the handwriting and the codicological contexts, at the same time explaining the relationship between the manuscripts and the printed editions. To better understand that relationship, we present a stemma codicum based on key textual variants, trying to establish grounds on which to answer the question: What did Nicholas of Modruš actually write in his oration for Pietro Riario? 25

26 Ivan Kapec Nacionalna i sveučilišna knjižnica u Zagrebu Neke razlike teksta u rukopisu i tiskanom izdanju djela Philosophiae Benedikta Staya Djelo Philosophiae versibus traditae libri sex Benedikta Staya tiskano je prvi put godine u Veneciji. U Zbirci rukopisa i starih knjiga Nacionalne i sveučilišne knjižnice u Zagrebu pohranjena su dva rukopisa tog djela. Jedan rukopis je predložak koji sadrži Stayeve ispravke, a drugi je čistopis koji je vjerojatno služio kao predložak za tiskano izdanje. U ovom izlaganju pokušat će se utvrditi razlike između tekstova, koje obuhvaćaju drugo pjevanje iz spjeva Philosophiae, i naznačiti njihove karakteristike s jezičnog i sadržajnog gledišta. Stay je stilski dorađivao svoj tekst u nastojanju da ga što preciznije približi antičkim uzorima. Ispravci koji se ovdje pojavljuju mogli bi upućivati na Stayevu snažnu sklonost da njegov konačni tekst bude stilski i jezično usporediv u što više detalja s rimskim klasicima. Some Textual Differences in the Manuscript and Printed Editions of Philosophiae versibus traditae libri sex by Benedikt Stay A philosophical poem in six books Philosophiae versibus tra ditae libri sex of Benedikt Stay was printed for the first time in 1744 in Venice. Two manuscripts of that work are stored in the Collection of Manuscripts and Old Books of the National and University Library in Zagreb. One manuscript is a template that contains Stay s corrections, and the oth- 26

27 er is a clean version of it that probably served as a template for a printed release. In this exposition, I will try to determine the differences between the texts of the second book of the Philosophia and to indicate their characteristics from a linguistic and content point of view. Stay has stylistically refined his text in an effort to approach to the style of classic authors. Corrections entered in his own handwriting that appear here might point to Stay s strong intent that his final text is versatile and linguistically comparable in as much detail to the classics of Roman literature. 27

28 Amir Kapetanović Institut za hrvatski jezik i jezikoslovlje u Zagrebu Nad vrelima Kanavelićeve lirike U prilogu ćemo raspravljati o izazovima tekstoškoga proučavanja hrvatske ranonovovjekovne pisane baštine na primjeru Kanavelićeve lirike. Zapisi su rasuti u brojnim vrelima, uglavnom rukopisnim. Raspravom će biti obuhvaćena pitanja relevantnosti jezično-tekstualnih razlika između mlađih i starijih zapisa, analizirat će se odnos nekoliko autografa i sekundarnih prijepisa te odnos rijetkih tiskom objavljenih stihova i njihovih rukopisnih vrela. Osim toga, ukazivat će se i na bliskost ili udaljenost pojedinih tekstnih svjedoka. Razmatranje ovih pitanja pripomoći će u kritičkoj pripremi Kanavelićeva književnoga opusa. On the Sources of Kanavelić s Lyrics This paper will discuss the challenges in textological analysis of Croatian early modern written heritage through the example of Kanavelić s lyricism. The records are spread among numerous sources, most of which are in manuscript form. The discussion will encompass issues of the relevance of linguistic and textual differences between newer and older records, the relationship between a few handwritten manuscripts and secondary copies, and the relationship between printed verses and their manuscript sources. In addition to this, the closeness or distance between particular text witnesses will also be pointed out. The consideration of these issues will be of assistance in the critical preparation of Kanavelić s literary opus. 28

29 Violeta Moretti Filozofski fakultet Sveučilišta Jurja Dobrile u Puli Osvrt na književnu pozadinu Ritterova stvaralaštva Hrvatski polihistor, književnik i povjesničar Pavao Ritter Vitezović ( ) pokoljenjima iza sebe ostavio je bogatu pisanu ostavštinu, a cilj je ovog izlaganja zaviriti u proces nastajanja njegovih tekstova te se osvrnuti na Ritterovu književnu i knjižnu razmjenu. U zbirkama njegovih stihovanih poslanica (Arhiv HAZU, II d 147 i IV c 4) mnogi su dokazi poboljšavanja teksta, a niz stranica iz njegovih Otia metrica (NSK, R3460 i R3461) ukazuje i na naknadne dorade tiskanih izdanja. Uvid u pozadinu njegova stvaralaštva pružaju i citatne bilježnice poput Varia extracta et notitiae (NSK, R3463), koje izrijekom čuvaju dokaz Ritterovih čitanja književnih i povijesnih djela, a uz vlastite i tuđe zabilježene stihove ondje stoje i vlastoručni zapisi o knjižnoj razmjeni. Vratimo li se tekstu njegovih poslanica, i ondje je posvjedočena bogata razmjena rukopisa, uz pokoju referencu na vlastito književno i znanstveno pisanje. Premda je opseg ovog istraživanja daleko od uspostavljanja obuhvatne slike, namjena mu je konkretnim primjerima iz izabrane građe barem donekle rasvijetliti naličje kreativnog rada ovog ranonovovjekovnog pisca u smislu nastanka, distribucije i cirkulacije njegovih i tuđih djela. 29

30 On the Literary Background of Ritter s Writing Croatian polymath, writer and historian Pavao Ritter Vitezović ( ) has left a rich written legacy to later generations. The aim of this paper is to have a look at the process of the creation of his literary writings and to address his literary and book exchange. His verse epistolaries (HAZU Archive, II d 147 and IV c 4) contains a lot of evidence that he used to polish his texts, and a number of pages of his Otia metrica (National and University Library, Zagreb, R3460 and R3461) reveal his later improvements to printed editions. Insight into his literary work can also be gained from his booklets containing notes and quotations, for example, his Varia extracta et notitiae (National and university library, Zagreb, R3463), that hold proof of Ritter s reading of literary and historical works, his own and others verses, and his remarks on book exchange noted down in his own handwriting. If we go back to the text analysis of his verse epistles, we will find testimony of his rich manuscript exchange, side by side with occasional self-references to his literary and historiographical working process. Even though the aim of this research is far from establishing a broad picture, it is hoped to shed at least some light on the backstage of this author s creative work in the sense of emergence, distribution and circulation of his own and others writings through concrete examples from the selected material. 30

Pritom će biti rije či isključivo o rukopisnim djelima. Broj prijepisa tih djela, kao i ugled prepisivača koji su ih prepisivali, sugeriraju da je vrijednosna ljestvica nekoć bila znatno drugačija, pa čak i da se u toj rukopisnoj ostavštini mogu prepoznati obrisi lokalnog kanona. Pokazat će se to na nekoliko primjera, između ostaloga i na opusu dubrovačke pjesnikinje Lukrecije Bogašinović. Lost in Transcriptions: Beyond the Canon The paper will discuss the imbalance between the occurrence of certain 18 th -century Ragusan authors in literary-historical overviews, and the status that their works enjoyed in the Dubrovnik of the period. The paper will focus exclusively on the manuscripts. The number of transcriptions of these works, as well as the reputation of the scribes who transcribed them suggest that the value scale at the time used to be very different, and, moreover, that in this manuscript heritage one can recognize the outlines of the local canon. This will be shown on several examples, among them the oeuvre of Ragusan poetess Lukrecija Bogašinović. 31

32 Vladimir Rezar Filozofski fakultet Sveučilišta u Zagrebu Humanističke zbirke grčkih rukopisa i njihovi sakupljači: Guillaume Pellicier i akvizicije rukopisa na istočnoj obali Jadrana Najcjenjenije europske biblioteke današnjice, kao što su Biblioteca nazionale Marciana, Biblioteca Medicea Lau renziana, Bodleian Library ili Bibliothèque nationale de France, dio svojeg ugleda u kulturnoj zajednici zasigurno duguju i fondovima starih rukopisa koje posjeduju, poglavito onih latinskih i grčkih. Ti su pak fondovi potekli mahom od privatnih kolekcija rukopisa oblikovanih u doba humanizma i u najvećem su broju slučajeva predstavljali jezgru iz koje su se kasnije pojedine knjižnice i razvile. Posebno su u tom smislu zanimljive zbirke grčkih rukopisa, za koje je, budući da je njihovo posjedovanje zbog rijetkosti i egzotičnosti bilo pitanje prestiža, među humanističkim prvacima postojao naročit interes. Najveću je pritom kolekciju grčkih rukopisa, njih petstotinjak, u svoje vrijeme prikupio francuski kralj François I. ( ): ona je, smještena u dvorcu Fontainebleau, postala temeljnim fondom oko kojeg se razvila današnja BNF, a do danas uvećana na preko 4000 primjeraka grčkih rukopisa i sad prednjači među zbirkama ostalih europskih biblioteka. Povijest njezina nastanka dobro je proučena, a za nas je dodatno interesantna jer je njezin glavni sastavljač, ambasador francuskog kralja u Veneciji Guillaume Pellicier, tijekom potrage za grčkim rukopisima između i pomoć u prikupljanju zatražio i od humanista na istočnoj obali Jadrana. Izlaganje će 32

33 se osvrnuti na Pellicierove veze s Korčulaninom Nikolom Petrovićem ( ), vrsnim grecistom i dubrovačkim profesorom klasičnih jezika u razdoblju od do 1550, i na pojedine grčke rukopise koji su do Pelliciera, pa potom i do rukopisne zbirke francuskoga kralja, možda došli upravo preko Dubrovnika. Humanist Collections of Greek Manuscripts and Their Collectors: Guillaume Pellicier and His Manuscript Acquisitions on the Eastern Adriatic Coast In 1539 Guillaume Pellicier ( ), a French prelate and diplomat, was appointed ambassador to Venice by the French king Francis I, with the main task of searching for rare manuscripts of Greek origin in the European South, as far as to Constantinople. His mission was successful, as he indeed managed to bring back to France several hundreds of Greek manuscripts. The paper gives a detailed account of the written correspondence between Pellicer and his old acquaintance Nicolaus Petreius ( ), born in Korčula, trained in Greek language in Italy, and at that time settled in Ragusa as a teacher of classical languages, which allows us to assume that some of those manuscripts, collected for the king of France, came in Pellicier s possession by Petreius s mediation. 33

34 Diana Sorić, Teuta Serreqi Jurić Sveučilište u Zadru Tekstualna transmisija Vrančićeva putopisa Iter Buda Hadrianopolim Putopis Antuna Vrančića Iter Buda Hadrianopolim sačuvan je u autografu koji se nalazi u budimpeštanskoj knjižnici Széchényi pod signaturama Fol. Lat i Fol. Lat Unutar Fol. Lat (ff. 81r 112v) nalazi se početni dio, a unutar Fol. Lat. 422 (ff.76r 99r) završni dio rukopisa. Prijepis se pak toga Vrančićeva djela nalazi u sklopu druge knjige De Illyrico Caesaribusque Illyricis Tomka Mrnavića iz početka 17. stoljeća. Prijepisi Mrnavićeva rukopisa čuvaju se na trima lokacijama: prvi u Nacionalnoj i Sveučilišnoj knjižnici u Zagrebu pod signaturom R 7195, drugi u Zemaljskome muzeju u Sarajevu pod signaturom E-541 te treći u Samostanu Male Braće u Dubrovniku. Što se tiče izdanja toga djela, Vrančićev je putopis u cijelosti prvi put objavljen godine kao sastavni dio poznatoga putopisnog štiva Viaggio in Dalmazia Alberta Fortisa. Čitav je putopis nešto kasnije objavio i Laszlo Szalay u mađarskom izdanju Monumenta Hungariae Historica II/2 (1857), dok se manji segmenti putopisa također nalaze u djelu Historia episcopatus Quinqueecclesiensis, tom V, Jozsefa Kollera ( ). Ovo izlaganje sadrži osvrt na svu sačuvanu rukopisnu baštinu i tiskana izdanja jedinoga primjerka putopisne književne vrste proizišla iz Vrančićeva pera. Pri usporedbi rukopisa (autografa i prijepisa) s navedenim cjelovitim izdanjima 34

35 priređivača Fortisa i Szalaya fokus će biti usmjeren na utvrđivanje međusobnih odstupanja odnosno razlika među rukopisima i izdanjima. Iako je tekstualna transmisija Vrančićeva putopisa živahna, što potvrđuju jedan autograf i tri prijepisa te dva cjelovita i jedno fragmentarno izdanje, greške koje se prenose u izdanjima i koje ponekad ugrožavaju čitanje teksta, kao i nedostatak kritičkoga izdanja, dovoljni su razlozi za novu i suvremeniju filološku obradu toga Vrančićeva djela. Textual Transmission of Antun Vrančić s Travelogue Iter Buda Hadrianopolim The autograph of Antun Vrančić s travelogue Iter Buda Hadrianopolim is kept in the National Széchényi Library in Budapest under the call number Fol. Lat and Fol. Lat is The initial part is within Fol. Lat (ff. 81r 112v), and the final part of the manuscript within Fol. Lat. 422 (ff.76r 99r). A transcript of Vrančić s travelogue can be found within the second book of De Illyrico Caesaribusque Illyricis by the Croatian humanist Tomko Mrnavić from the 17 th century. The copies of Mrnavić s manuscript are kept in three locations: one copy is kept at the National and University Library in Zagreb under the call number R7195, the second in the National Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo under the call number E541, and the third in the Monastery Mala Braća in Dubrovnik. As far as the editions of this text are concerned, Vrančić s travelogue was published in its entirety for the first time in 1774, as an integral part of a famous travelogue Viaggio in Dalmazia by Alberto Fortis. The whole travelogue was also published a little bit later in the Hungarian edition of Monumenta Hungariae Historica II/ 2 by László Szalay 35

36 (1857). Also, a few segments of the travelogue can be found within the book Historia episcopatus Quinqueecclesiensis, tomus V, by Jozsef Koller ( ). This paper contains an overview of all preserved manuscript heritage and printed editions of the only sample of a travelogue handwritten by Vrančić s. When comparing the manuscripts (autograph and transcriptions) with the aforementioned complete editions of Fortis and Szalay, the focus will be on determining the differences between the manuscripts and the other editions. Although a textual transmission of Vrančić s travelogue is lively, as confirmed by one autograph, three transcripts, two complete editions and one fragmentary edition, errors transferred in editions, which sometimes compromise the reading of text, as well as the lack of a critical edition, are sufficient reasons for the new and contemporary philological elaboration of Vrančić s work here. 36

37 Luka Špoljarić Filozofski fakultet Sveučilišta u Zagrebu Birokracija i humanizam u mletačkoj Dalmaciji: Trojica kneževih kancelara i njihovi rukopisi antičkih klasika Potpavši pod mletačku vlast, dalmatinski bi gradovi svake tri godine iz redova mletačkog patricijata dobili novog kneza (u većim gradovima i kaštelana), u čijoj bi pratnji u grad stigao i njegov kancelar. Kancelari bi vodili kneževe knjige, vršili njegovu službenu korespondenciju i pomagali mu u ostalim službenim dužnostima. Iako su često bili zapošljavani iz istog kruga profesionalnih birokrata kao i komunalni kancelari i notari koji bi ponekad proveli desetljeća u dalmatinskim gradovima, kneževi kancelari najčešće bi se zadržali u gradu tek za vrijeme trajanja mandata kneza kojemu su služili, a da nisu formirali neke trajnije veze s okolinom. Kao takvi ti su pisari, čini se, imali malo utjecaja na ranu difuziju humanističkog pokreta u Dalmaciji (od početka 15. stoljeća do nagle ekspanzije tiskarske industrije 1470-ih). Nemamo naime nikakvih dokaza o njihovim vezama s prvim lokalnim sljedbenicima humanističkog pokreta. Osim što bi se u gradu zadržali tek kraće vrijeme, većina tih profesionalnih službenika vjerojatno nije gajila prevelik interes za antičke klasike i humanističke bestselere. No kako ću pokazati u svome izlaganju, to nije uvijek bio slučaj. Nekoliko sačuvanih humanističkih rukopisa naime otkriva da su neki kancelari, poput Giorgia Casellia iz Trevisa, Angela Vadia iz Riminia i Gianbattiste Deia iz Feltra, svoje vrijeme u službi kratili čitajući i prepi- 37

38 sujući latinske klasike. Oni možda nisu ostvarili veze s lokalnim humanistima i danas su manje-više potpuno nepoznati u hrvatskoj historiografiji, no njihovi rukopisi i biografije otkrivaju da su posrijedi doista bili ljudi koji su revno podupirali humanistički pokret. Bureaucracy and Humanism in Venetian Dalmatia: Three Comital Chancellors and their Manuscripts of the Ancient Classics After they came under Venetian rule in , the Dalmatian cities would welcome a new count every three years, elected usually from the ranks of the Venetian patriciate, who would be escorted by an official chancellor. These comital chancellors would keep the count s books in order, take care of his official correspondence and help him with his official duties. Although they were drafted from the same pool of professional bureaucrats as communal chancellors and notaries who would in some cases spend decades in Dalmatian cities, the comital chancellors would stay in the city for the duration of the count s mandate, often without forming more meaningful connections with their surroundings. As such, the comital chancellors seem to have had little effect on the early diffusion of the humanist movement within the region (from the beginning of the 15 th century to the boom of the Venetian printing industry in 1470). There is virtually no evidence for their contact with any of the local humanists. Moreover, aside from staying in the city for a brief time, most of them probably did not have any substantial interest in the ancient classics and humanist bestsellers. However, as I will show in my paper, this was not always the case. A few humanist manuscripts reveal that some comital chancellors, 38

39 such as Giorgio Caselli of Treviso, Angelo Vadio of Rimini, and Gianbattista Dei of Feltre, did spend a part of their free time in Dalmatia reading and copying the ancient classics. They may not have formed any connections with the local humanists, and they may be unknown in Croatian historiography, but their manuscripts and biographies reveal that they were indeed supporters of the humanist movement at the time of its shaping. 39

U ovome se trenutku ne može kazati je li Više poroda Djevičanskoga originalan ili prijevodni rad, a samo oprezno se smije iznijeti pretpostavka da je nastao u 18. stoljeću. The Last Great Epic Poem of Croatian Literature in the Modern Period Even though the manuscript preserving the epic poem Više poroda Djevičanskoga has long been registered in the catalogue of Inocent Čućić under the no.71, and in the catalogue of Mijo Brlek under the no. 127, this epic poem remains virtually unknown. It narrates the central Christian events, including the annunciation, Mary s visit to her cousin Elizabeth, journey to Bethlehem and Jesus s birth, the worship of the magi, the Virgin and Joseph s flight to Egypt before Herod s rage and the massacre of the innocents. At this moment it is impossible to determine whether Više po 40

41 roda Djevičanskoga is the original or a work of translation; it is only possible to hypothesize that it was created in the 18 th century. 41

To nije nimalo lak zadatak i pred mladim znanstvenikom stoji niz pitanja i problema pa ih za taj posao treba pripremiti još u studentskim danima i dati im barem osnovne upute, o tome kako i otkud početi, upoznati ih s temeljnim načelima filološkog rada, a ujedno im dati i priliku da vide žele li se time baviti kasnije. Na osnovi dvaju primjera rada sa studentima na transkripciji dijela rukopisa De Illyrico Caesaribusque Illyricis Ivana Tomka Mrnavića ( ) i na pripremi kritičkog izdanja djela Genealogia Pavla Skalića ( ) ukazat će se na neke od mogućih pristupa istraživačima koji se prvi put susreću s transkripcijom te na probleme na koje pritom nailaze i studenti, ali i njihov profesor. Anxiety or Passion: Two Examples of Work With Students on Transcription Young philologists (especially Latinists), sooner or later in their professional life, have contact with a transcription. It s not an easy task for young researchers there are a lot of questions and problems that need to be resolved. Therefore, students should be prepared right from their college days - 42

43 they should be given basic instructions on how and where to start their research; get familiar with the primal principles of philological work, and at the same time be given the chance to decide whether to stay in that field of work or choose something else. Based on two examples of work with students transcription of part of the manuscript De Illyrico Caesaribusque Illyricis written by Ivan Tomko Mrnavić ( ) and the preparation of a critical edition of Pavao Skalić s ( ) Genealogia Researchers who encounter transcription for the first time will have some of the possible approaches pointed out to them as well as problems they may come across during the research process. 43
