1 February, 2017 Gather, Grow and Go, In the Name of Jesus Christ DIAMONDHEAD COMMUNITY CHURCH WELCOMES OUR NEW PASTOR After much prayer and deliberation, our Pastor Nominating Committee has chosen 37 year old Reverend Jason Corey Edwards of Cornelia, Georgia. He comes to us with his wife Anne and their four boys, ages 3 to 13. Jason grew up in South Georgia, working on the family farm. After the farm began to fall to pieces, he and his father started a construction business. Life was good, but he could not deny God s voice calling him to follow a different path. He entered Columbia Theological Seminary and graduated with a Masters of Divinity. He has served the church as a Youth Director, Senior High School Youth Leader, Student Pastor, and as a Senior Pastor. We welcome Jason and his beautiful family to our wonderful community and ask for your prayers as we enter a new and exciting chapter in our history.

2 News From THE SESSION Clerk s Notes The stated session meeting was held on Tuesday, January 24, Elder Josh Lindsey opened the meeting with a devotion and prayer. Dr. Richard Gillespie mentioned pastoral concerns for those in need of prayer. Session approved minutes from the called congregational, stated session meeting and called session meeting minutes. The following dates were reviewed for the January and February calendar: Deacon/Elder Installation/Ordination Sunday, January 8, 2017 Trustee/Corporation Meeting Tuesday, January 24, 2017 held prior to January Stated Session Meeting. Next Stated Session Meeting Tuesday, February 21, Annual Corporation and Annual Congregational Meeting Monday, February 13, This meeting will be held at our Providence Dinner in February. Please come to hear the Clerk s Annual Report and Committee Reports from this past year. The Session approved the December 2016 Church Financial Statements and approved the 2017 Church Budget. The 2017 Church Budget and Corporation Assets & Liabilities will be presented at the Annual Corporation and Congregational Meeting. The Clerk of Session completed the work on the Annual Statistical Report and presented it to the Presbytery of Mississippi. Dr. Richard Gillespie presented two new members for session approval by re-acclamation of faith. The two new members are Kim Gebbia and long-time church attendee Peter Kolf. They will be installed as new members at the 10 a.m. service on Sunday, January 29, Please extend a warm welcome to our two new members. We also want to welcome new member Sharon Tonti who was baptized and joined our church as a new member on January 1, Please extend a warm welcome to Sharon Tonti as well. 3 Session News (continued from page 2 Our new pastor Jason Edwards, wife, Anne and four boys Jase, John Corey, Jack Cooper, and James Cleveland have officially moved to Diamondhead! They moved into their home on Monday, January 23, Jason will begin his ministry at DCC on February 1, He and Anne have made appearances this week at various church activities. We look forward to officially welcoming them at a reception to be held at noon on Sunday, February 5, We will be having a hamburger and hotdog cookout that day after Sunday services and the PNC invite everyone to attend and meet our new pastor and his family. We eagerly anticipate what God is doing in us, among us, and through us in Jesus Christ our Lord! We have a wonderful program for all attending the Men of the Church breakfast on Saturday, February 11 from 9-10 a.m.!! This is one of two times a year when all women attending DCC are invited to the breakfast. (Gals, you don t have to come with a guy.) Come for breakfast and stay for a fascinating, educational and delicious program! Kyla Jacobs, Regional Manager of the Pass Christian Olive Oil and Vinegars store will be presenting a program on the benefits of extra virgin olive oil and will give a harvesting overview; how to pair vinegars with different olive oils; and will have pairing samples. She will also be passing out recipes. The Deacons coordinate transportation to medical appointments and DCC church events with an advance notice for members, their spouses and Active church friends. 7 News From Presbyterian Women Join the fun at the next Presbyterian Women s (PW s) Mary/Martha Day on Tuesday, February 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. Following the opening devotional, we will decorate valentines for the residents of Woodland Village and some other shut-ins. Please bring embellishments you have on hand such as scraps of lace, sequins, stickers, etc. We will also need some glue sticks and scissors. PW s Coordinating team will supply the base for the valentines. We hope you will attend whether you can stay only a short time or would like to bring a brown bag lunch and stay through noon when drinks and dessert will be provided, don t miss this morning filled with fun and fellowship. March 7 is the date of PW s Spring Luncheon. Our mission for March will be Starfish Café, a nonprofit operating under Pneuma Winds of Hope. Please watch your bulletins for details about luncheon reservations and how you can support Starfish Café, which is located on Main Street in Bay St. Louis. Presbyterian Women s 29th Annual Gathering is scheduled on March 11 at Vernal Presbyterian in Lucedale. We hope many ladies from our church will attend. Watch your bulletins and s for further details. At PW s January Mary/Martha Day, 61 material packets for simple pillow case sundresses were prepared. The material packets and patterns will be placed in the Fellowship Hall so those of you who sew may complete the dresses for Operation Christmas shoeboxes. PW has learned that 48 young girls living in Burkina Faso, a tropical country in West Africa, are wearing the sundresses you previously sewed. Circles are small groups that meet monthly September through May for Bible Study and fellowship. The Bible Study for 2016/17 is WHO IS JESUS by Judy Yates Siker. Each lesson stands alone so you can join the study at any time. We hope you will attend the circle shown below that best fits your schedule. 8 Church Library News Because of the generosity of our members and friends, the Diamondhead Community Church Library continues to grow. In November Frank and Mary Ann Manchester presented Winter s Gift to the WEE Library and three Bible trivia books. Bible Trivia Challenge-PLACES, Bible Trivia Challenge-PEOPLE and Bible Trivia Challenge-EVENT are for all ages, but beware - the questions are easy to begin with, but become increasingly difficult. Also, in November Mr. and Mrs. David Boan presented these books: Answered Prayers, Strong Was Her Faith, LORD, I Want To Know You, How Coffee Saved My Life and Other Stories of Stumbling Grace and Chicken Soup for the Couple s Soul. Additional books included in the gift are Faith s Checkbook, Leadership-Promises For Every Day, A Life God REWARDS, God s Tender Promises for Mothers and Moments with Angels, Dinner with a Perfect Stranger, Conversations with God-an uncommon dialogue, Have a little faith, and Great Psalms of the Bible. In December our library received books from Pat Hinrichs and Nita Hensley. A Man Called Peter, The Helper, Adventures In Prayer, Calling Jesus, Where To Find It in the Bible, Till Armageddon, Grieving the Loss of Someone you Love, The Little Minister and Bottom Line Year Book 2016 were given by Pat Hinrichs. Scarlet Thread, The Power of a Praying Wife, Having a Mary Spirit, Why Do Catholics Do That? Redeeming Love, and The What and Why of Catholicism were given by Nita Hensley. All newly donated books are shelved and waiting to be read. If you have not visited the library in awhile, come in and browse. You can borrow as many books as you like, and there is never a due date for borrowed books. If you are donating books, please attach a note with your name to the materials so that your gift may be acknowledged.
