1 Knight Times Monthly Newsletter of the Great 799 April 2015 Volume 112, Issue 4 Dallas Council 799 Knights of Columbus Shoreview Road Dallas, Texas Chaplain s Message By Fr. Josef Vollmer-König Dear Brother Knights. We just completed the Lenten season and are in the middle of Holy Week. The week that reminds us of the ultimate love OUR LORD Jesus has for us. He challenges us as His followers to pick up our cross and to love one on other as He loves us. Following Him leads us to the resurrection. Alleluia, He is risen! The season of Easter is celebrated for fifty days. We celebrate Life. Christ, who was crucified, died on the Cross for our sins, was buried. He is alive. We celebrate the resurrection of Our Lord. This is the triumph of Jesus over death, death to sin. Three days after His sacrificial death on the Cross, Christ is risen! Christ s body is glorified, not restricted by time or space. Death where is your sting? This Feast is the culmination of the life and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. For this reason, each day from Easter until the first Sunday of Easter is Easter day. St. Paul tells us in 1 Cor. 15:14, And if Christ has not been raised, then empty (too) is our preaching; empty, too, your faith. The many symbols of Easter, the Fire, Easter Candle, Baptismal Water, remind us of our Baptism. We are reminded that in baptism we die with Christ. We also rise with Him. As Baptized people, we are a Resurrection people. For this reason, there should always be joy in our Hearts and a smile on our faces. A blessed Easter, Fr. As a general status report, I d like to say the work at Knights of Columbus has been significant. Many volunteers have labored during the Fish Fry season. 4 KofC Insurance Spotlight Wishing you and yours a joyful Easter season! On March 29th, 1882 Father McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus. He started our fraternal benefits society after witnessing the financial hardships his parishioners and his own family endured after the death of a breadwinner. Catholics had no employer benefits and could not purchase individual coverage due to discrimination and the high risk of their jobs. Today, a 133 years later, many of our members "have all their eggs in one basket". Members are over relying on their employer benefits. Benefits can be inadequate in coverage, more expensive and can be lost with a job change. We encourage members to supplement, compliment or make portable many of their employer benefits. Knights of Columbus offer, through your council's local field agent, a comprehensive and competitive portfolio from the most financially secure life insurance company in North America. Our "Fraternal Advantage" permits us to offer benefits that have been developed over 133 years of success that are in a Catholic Families best interest. Whether you have a "financial planner" or feel good about your employer benefits, we encourage you to have a second opinion or a brief review of what's new with the KofC in April. This service is complimentary to all members. Please contact us TODAY! John Shaver FIC Marc Newhouse John.Shaver@kofc.org Marc.newhouse@kofc.org K of C Named as a World's Most Ethical Company The Knights of Columbus has been recognized by the Ethisphere Institute, the global leader in defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practices, as a 2015 World s Most Ethical Company. The World s Most Ethical Companies designation recognizes those organizations that have had a material impact on the way business is conducted by fostering a culture of ethics and transparency at every level of the company. Annual State Convention The 111th Annual Convention of The Texas State Council Knights of Columbus is to be held May 1-3, in Houston, Texas. Lodging will be at the Hilton Hotel of the Americas, located in downtown Houston at 1600 Lamar Street. The hotel is connected to the George R. Brown Convention Center which will host all state convention activities. Friday s activities include a golf tournament, Clergy seminar and luncheon and the annual awards ceremony in the afternoon. Saturday s activities begin with the State Deputy s report and conclude with the State banquet. The Memorial Mass and Sunday liturgy is followed by the ladies breakfast and final business meetings. Consecration at the Cathedral June 20 The permanent consecration of virgins arose in the early Church, and virgins lived after the pattern of brides of Christ like Sts. Agatha, Agnes, and Lucy. There are about 300 consecrated virgins in this country, with another 6,000 worldwide. Bishop Doug Deshotel will celebrate the consecration at the 5:00pm Mass at the Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe, 2215 Ross Avenue. Dinner will be served in the Grand Salon following the Mass for any Knights and family members who RSVP. Please RSVP with the number attending to Cara Buskmiller, either by at cbuskmiller@gmail.com or by phone at In lieu of gifts, please consider making a general confession.
