THE WYOMING MESSENGER June 2018 Page 3 From the Pastor s Desk I m going to use my space in the newsletter this month to talk about something that I am particularly passionate about: youth ministry. I have been blessed to spend the past year working with our youth and an amazing team of volunteers in our youth ministries. We have met almost every Sunday evening since last September to play games (often crazy games!), eat a few snacks, and hear a lesson from me about things going on in our world and the lives of our youth. This has been fun, challenging, and a true blessing from God. On Sunday, June 17 th, a team of our youth will be leading us in worship for a combined service at 9:45 AM. This will give you a chance to see our amazing youth in action and to see their faith and love for Jesus. They will be singing, reading Scripture, offering a skit that Emily Mateja, one of our youth, is writing herself, and sharing with you their experience of God through our youth program. At least two of our youth, Brady Flynn and Karissa Mann, will be speaking. The youth will be doing it all, and it will be an awesome experience - I hope you will plan to join us for worship! A statement that I hear quite often is youth are the future of our church. I know that this is offered by people with the best of intentions, but I want to submit that it isn t correct. Youth are the church now. Our children are the church now. Their parents are the church now. Older adults are the church now. Our youth are already fully a part of God s kingdom, and they are a full part of the life and fellowship of the church. A church without children s and youth ministries is a dying church, and I am thankful that we have such a rich, vibrant ministry here at Wyoming for all of our youth, from the cradle right on up through high school. Their faith and presence among us is a source of joy and grace, and for that we are thankful. May God continue to allow Wyoming to be a church, guided by the Spirit, that embraces people of all ages so that they may experience the love of Christ.

THE WYOMING MESSENGER June 2018 Pastor Dave s Ministry Minute - May 2018 The Unofficial Start of Summer I m sure you ve heard that the Memorial Day Weekend is the Unofficial Start of Summer Families and friends will gather together for a whole host of outdoor activities such as cookouts, baseball and softball games Thousands will flock to our Delaware beaches to spend time on the sand and in the surf We ll all get our shorts and flip flops out of the closet and get ready to have some fun!!... But Memorial Day is so much more than that Memorial Day is a day of remembrance of the brave men and women who lost their lives defending our nation and the liberty that we enjoy Allowing us the freedom to do all the things of summer as well as the freedom to worship openly Let us all be sure to take time to give thanks to God and pray for all of the members of our armed forces who defend our freedoms As the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer draw near I know that many people are making travel plans I know that, on occasion, summertime activities might prevent us from attending worship Rest assured that Wyoming Church has provided a response to that concern Wyoming Church has taken another step forward into the age of technology and now offers Facebook Live video streaming every Sunday at 9:45 I was speaking with a member of Wyoming just a few days ago who was so pleased that this is possible So much so that she really had church at home She stood when the congregation stood She sang when the congregation sang She prayed when the congregation prayed I was delighted I believe that God still wants us to be together, in the same space, enjoying the same fellowship, but when that s not possible we have a really good option available The writer of Hebrews tells us that we should not forsake the assembly But when being present is not possible be sure to check us out on Facebook I pray that everyone enjoys a safe and restful summer, giving thanks to God for all the blessings in our lives So be it and Amen Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Ephesians 5: year-old men creates an unbreakable bond among brother marines; very hard to explain. And, as in all wars, there is loss of life and Memorial Day becomes more significant because now I can put a face to the names. This lance corporal witnessed their last moments simply dreadful. Since I was little kid, Memorial Day has always been observed in my family. Dad was a WW II Army vet who served in the Philippines. All the men in Edgemoor Gardens where I grew up, it seemed, were returning vets also. So, on Memorial Day, dad would pile us into the Studebaker and we d go to the VFW Post on East 26 th street in Wilmington. These affairs were very well attended in the 50 s because it was only ten years after the end of the war. Little white crosses were placed in the green lawn in front of the VFW building. The VFW Commander would deliver a brief speech on the ultimate sacrifice given by our men and women and then, on command, seven VFW members of the firing squad delivered three salvos of M-1 gun fire to the sky. As a young kid, you felt the gravity of the event by the facial expressions of the adults. Afterwards, as everyone By David Van Kavelaar, RVN went inside the VFW post for a luncheon, my brother and I would pick up the spent brass casings of the M-1 s. Each year, we d pay tribute to those who died in combat and could never come home again. So, ten years later, we were at war again. Most of the guys I grew up with enlisted for military service. We were the sons of those who secured worldwide peace; it s only natural that we would meet our obligation to serve. I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps (not the merchant marines, or the Royal Marines, or the ROK marines); the USMC. My MOS (military occupational specialty) was 0311: infantryman. No sugar coating it here, we were well prepared to engage oppositional forces in the jungles, rice paddies, and mountains of South Vietnam. The intense pressure put upon a bunch of I now, on Memorial Day, celebrate the lives of all those fallen (including 88 marines from my unit, Echo Company, 2 nd Battalion, 7 th Marine Regiment, 1 st MARDIV, who were KIA in RVN). When I go to church at WUMC, there are some older men and women in our church family who may have served in the military. I d like to hear their stories. Certainly, all our church families have sons, daughters, moms, dads, brothers, sisters, uncles and aunts who have served or are currently serving in the military. You should know that when they enlist, they sign a contract that they will serve our nation faithfully with the knowledge that they may have to lay their lives down in the process of doing so. On this Memorial Day, spend some time reflecting on those soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines whose ultimate sacrifice is so thankfully and tenderly embraced by us all.

THE WYOMING MESSENGER June 2018 Page 5 Remembering the Ham I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds. Psalm 77:11-12 When reflecting on my teen years growing up, I would consider myself quite fortunate. Given that I unofficially majored in social during my high school days, I greatly enjoyed the company of many casual friends and acquaintances that made the precollege years a very rich and pleasurable season of life. Yet even beyond the larger collection of school chums that I enjoyed, I was blessed to be a part of a small, tightly knit group, five boys and five girls who in many ways became like an extended family. And as we know, there can be much up and down in the lives of teenagers, yet this special collection of companions was a constant strength for each of us as we grew into young adults and headed our varied directions first in college, and then in adult life thereafter. Just recently, my wife and I attended the memorial service for the father of one of these close friends. Six out of the ten of us were able to attend, with our spouses. As this was the second memorial service in less than a year, we jokingly reminded ourselves that a memorial service is not the ideal venue for our little group coming together; that we need to purposely put a date on the calendar, at a time when we are not mourning, to truly enjoy each other s company; to better catch up and reminisce about memories of old. During the memorial service, which was held back in St. Mary s County Maryland where we all grew up, in his eulogy, the pastor reflected on when he first arrived in Southern Maryland many years ago and made his inaugural trip to the local grocery store. He told the story of visiting the meat section in particular and being shocked to see ham on display for purchase, ham that was riddled with some type of mold, as he described it. At this point in the message, most folks in attendance, especially the locals, began to chuckle, quickly recognizing where this narrative was going. The pastor went on to describe that his shock was soon replaced by relief, realizing that this was not in fact moldy food after all, but a unique local favorite, Southern Maryland stuffed ham. As the service ultimately concluded and the reception began, and yes, of course, stuffed ham was on the buffet, I had so many thoughts and memories swirling within being back in St. Mary s County, being in the company of old and dear friends, and even reacquainting myself with my beloved stuffed ham. Over the next few days, back at home in Delaware, I found myself caught in the current of what seemed like a sea of memories; reflecting over the many people and events that more or less Danny Cooper Daybreak Counseling Services nudged me along my path as a youth, unbeknownst to me at the time. While it might sound odd, it was the stuffed ham that dreamily carried my thoughts back to my childhood years, and in particular, to our annual church dinners, where I can remember as a small kid the buses coming all the way down from Washington D.C., or as we called it, the city, and our parking area, which was simply the grassy area surrounding our parish hall and our prized softball field, being totally filled from start to finish. We were too small to be called a town, but were instead referred to as a village, and let me tell you, that little village of Chaptico was the place to be on festival weekend. The meals were served family style, meaning you were placed wherever an opening occurred in the Our stories begin and end with God, and if we look, if we push aside the challenges, the hurts, and the distractions that crowd the path, we will see them the pebbles of God s unique and undeniable companionship. hall, and so making new friends was all part of the experience. And as the stuffed ham and locally harvested oysters made their way to the excited customers, virtually all of us from the church played a role in the festivities. It literally took all hands to make this work. I still feel just a pang of nostalgic pride when thinking back to how I started out as a runner for the kitchen ladies as a little fella, graduated to a dishwasher, moved up to waiting on tables as a young teen, and even spent my last year or two padding oysters with the real veterans of the church festival. I had truly arrived to be in that fine company. The faces of so many church family were cycling through my mind as I returned to daily life in Delaware, most having passed away many years ago now. Looking back, I can see more clearly what great impact these fine folks had on my life, often in very small ways, but in ways that I now recognize as meaningful and lasting. It s amazing how a kind word or an arm around one s shoulder can linger in its feeling of love and acceptance. We are all created by God in love and to be loved, and what a blessing to look back and see the people, anew, who were God s instruments of love in our lives. Obviously, the memorial service had its sad moments, given my friend s dad was someone who made a lasting difference in the lives of those around him. But interestingly, the experience of going home for the service allowed me, to my surprise, to make a different kind of journey within; to travel back over forgotten territory, gratefully recognizing how very present our loving God had been to me all along the way. I believe it was Hansel and Gretel who left a trail of pebbles along the path so that they would not remain lost in the woods, with the hope that the trail would eventually lead them back to home. While home in the Brothers Grimm tale proved to be a dangerous place, our home, the place we pine for spiritually, is our ultimate reunion with the God of our creation. If we look closely enough, even if our life circumstances, in general, were less than ideal, we may see a comforting pebble of God s presence along the path we have traveled, which will lead to another, and to another. The beautiful realization is that this trail of pebbles leads us back into a living connection and awareness of God in our ongoing life journey. Our stories begin and end with God, and if we look, if we push aside the challenges, the hurts, and the distractions that crowd the path, we will see them the pebbles of God s unique and undeniable companionship. As we are all fearfully and wonderfully made, as Psalm 139 reminds us, our individual journeys in this life are singular stories unto themselves. There is no story like your story. There is no one like you. As for me, Take a look back, follow the pebbles, and begin to see your own life journey with new eyes God is there! interestingly, or maybe just strangely, it was the ham that ushered me back to earlier chapters of my own story; to the renewed recognition of God s very unique presence in some of my earlier life experiences. It s in allowing ourselves to look back that we see that shiny pebble of old, which leads to another, and then another; pebbles of God s presence in our lives that we may be seeing for the very first time. Take a look back, follow the pebbles, and begin to see your own life journey with new eyes God is there! Lord, thank you for your steadfast presence in our life journey, even though we can so easily lose sight of you along the way. Help us, Lord, to have the courage to look back, with the eyes to see the pebbles along our path. May the pebbles of your presence bring us comfort from old, and hope for our future Amen

THE WYOMING MESSENGER June 2018 Page 6 Vacation Bible School is just around the corner, only 3 weeks away! The set (sanctuary stage decorations) requires a lot of work prior to installation day which is the 17th of June; VBS begins on Monday morning, the 18th. We need about 12 to 14 artificial Christmas trees to make the set really nice. Following VBS the trees will be returned in the same carton as we receive them. All sizes work, but mostly tall ones will be better. If we do not get enough trees we will have to make them with card board and paint them which will take time and effort. That is why we are requesting your trees (electric lights on the tree is ok) be delivered by Monday June 11th. If you can loan us a tree or two, great! Please let George Pettyjohn (302) know. If the tree has to be picked up at your home, George will arrange it. Same with returning the trees. -- We Need A Few Good Men And Women! As our Wyoming Church member and attendee numbers continue to increase, we find ourselves in need of additional Sunday Morning Greeters. All three of our Worship Services have been and continue to be blessed by a number of dedicated folks serving as greeters. However, there is always room for additional folks who feel comfortable greeting Sunday morning worshippers. If you feel so led, please contact the following Greeter Coordinators: Lisa McCalister (302) (8:30 AM) Gail Vella (302) (9:45 AM) and Terry Higgins (302) (11:00 AM). Greeters serve a fifteen minute stint once a month prior to the beginning of the service that you would normally attend. If you are not certain that being a Greeter is your thing, why not consider trying it for a month or two. We already know that you will find it rewarding, pleasant, and fun!... to help lead our Pre-K through 3rd graders in worship during our revamped 2018 Summer Sunday School! Please be on the lookout for sign -ups in the narthex during the next few weeks! We are hoping to find 2 adults and 1 youth helper for each week. Summer Sunday School will run from June 24th through August 26th during the 9:45 service. Please feel free to send any questions to Michelle Harris at cnmharris@gmail.com!

THE WYOMING MESSENGER June 2018 Page 10 Hello Church Family, I am thrilled to announce that I have been accepted to travel to South Africa this summer! I will be there for a month, working at a Rhino Orphanage through an organization called Intern Africa. While there I will be working with baby Rhinos that have been brought to us because their mothers have been killed by poachers. The last White Rhino in the world recently passed away, and if we don't make efforts to conserve these animals, other Rhino species will follow in the same path. This is why I am traveling to South Africa, in efforts to rehabilitate these Rhinos with hopes of releasing them back into a reserve near by. This is an amazing opportunity for me, but I will not be paid to work there. I will have to pay my way there and this is why I need your help! I will be fundraising to help cover the cost of travel, work and other expenses. Any donation, no matter how small, will help and be much appreciated. The Rhinos and I thank you! Here is the link to meet the orphans that I will be working with! Hugs all-around at the Tropical Islands ARC Dance in May. Care For Wild is the biggest orphan rhino sanctuary in the world. Looking after baby rhino s is a challenge, but we love every one of our orphans, and we re dedicated to the goal of rescuing and rehabilitating them, before being able to release them again in safe places as viable breeding populations. Here is a link to my gofundme page or you can go to gofundme.com and search my name. route=category&term=taylor%20klecan Thank you in advance for your support!! Then freeze your cookies till August... Call Renate with questions.

THE WYOMING MESSENGER June 2018 Page 11 Are you looking for an opportunity to serve, the Visitation Team is looking for new members! At this time we are blessed with a very small number of shut -ins we are serving, but there is always a need for volunteers at hymn sings and flower deliveries. The purpose of this team is to offer ministry to members of our congregation and extended families who are physically removed, so that they can feel spiritually connected with the body of Christ. We provide visits to shut-ins at home and in nursing homes, we can provide communion upon request. We have four hymn sings a year at Dover Place, next hymn sing is July. We can provide rides for doctor appointments, soup on Soup Days. Pick up and deliver of donated Altar Flowers. We have quarterly meetings for update and review of our shutins and our mission. The rewards are many, blessings priceless, as our team members can testify to. Please call Donna McCartney at or to join this team or with any questions. If you are aware of someone we should be visiting please let her know! Scout News - Troop 24 By Mindy Anthony January turned out to be fairly mild for the Troop s Wilderness Survival Campout. The focus was on survival skills and included tomahawk throwing (within the proper safety zone of course). In February, the Troop participated in the annual Klondike Derby. There wasn t any snow this year but the scouts still had a great time! March s campout took the scouts to Broad Creek Scout Reservation in Maryland, where they had a good time despite the cold temperatures! April was a busy one for the troop. The quarterly Court of Honor was held with many scouts, especially the newer ones, earning rank badges and multiple merit badge. Ten scouts from Troop 24 endured the Order of the Arrow Ordeal, which is like the Honor Society of the Boy Scouts. Some of the things they endured through this experience was limited food, long periods of no talking, and manual labor. All Troop 24 scouts made it through and are glad not to have to go through that again! And finally in April, the monthly campout was at Killens Pond. The theme was geocaching and the scouts learned how to geocache using GPS. Troop 24 plans on placing its own geocache on Wyoming UMC property, thanks to permission from the Trustees! The Troop is also busy preparing for some scouts to go to summer camp at Hawk Mountain and a crew of 11 (scouts and leaders) going on a High Adventure Canoeing trip in Maine. Both occur in late July. Picture: Fun at the Killens Pond camping trip (Italian night!)

THE WYOMING MESSENGER June 2018 Page 12 The Wyoming Church Landscaping Is Green, Growing, And Looks Great --- Thanks To Many Volunteers And The Boy Scouts! A very special Thank You to the members of Boy Scout Troop 24, which is sponsored by our Wyoming Church, as well as many on-going thanks to the entire cadre of hardworking mowers, edgers and trimmers that have brought our Church landscaping to the point where on can honestly say that the grounds have never looked better than they do today. Members of Boy Scout Troop 24 recently took some time from their weekly meeting to pick up the wind blown trash that had found a temporary home in the multiacre swale that is located on the east side of our Church. We are waiting on the finishing touches for the front-of-building mulching, the two south wall beds and, of course, the Memorial Garden itself. If all of these parts of the projects fall into place, we would like to hold the Memorial Garden Dedication Service on Sunday, June the 24 th. We will keep everybody informed of our progress. Should you have any questions or suggestions relative to the Grounds and their care and appearance please see Terry Higgins or Dave Yencer Thank you for your Patience! As the Memorial Garden continues to receive a steady flow of Memorial Garden Brick orders, the question invariably arises, Is my Brick ready?. The question is certainly a valid one which deserve a good response. The Memorial Brick order process has several steps that are incorporated into the ordering and subsequent production protocol that will ensure that each brick has the exact desired wording and is one hundred percent accurate. There have been a few occasions when a mistake in the etching production process has been inadvertently made. When that happens the procedure has to be restarted in mid process to effect the appropriate correction. These corrections are done at no addition charge to the Memorial Garden Project. Obviously, the correction procedure adds more time to the point when a brick is ready to place. Once the bricks have been returned and certified as acceptable, then those who ordered the bricks have to be notified, often by mail, as to where they would like their bricks to be placed. The attention to detail in the entire ordering and placement procedure, in and of itself, can be time consuming. Thank you for your orders and your patience. Should you have any questions about your Memorial Brick order please see or contact Dave Yencer or Terry Higgins

THE WYOMING MESSENGER June 2018 Page 13 Blue Buckets Do You Know their Purpose??? If you are new to WUMC or have never paid attention to the last Sunday of the month, you may not know that the blue bucket collection as you leave the sanctuary serves a very important ministry within our church Family Emergency Relief or FER, for short. FER is a hands-on way of helping those who have suffered an emergency preventing them from paying their rent, utilities, or, worst of all, buying groceries to feed their families. On the last Sunday of the month, ushers are stationed at each door of the sanctuary with blue buckets for FER donations. When you drop your money into the buckets, you are enabling our church to reach out and help someone less fortunate or someone who has come upon hard times. At the Church Council meeting on May 22nd, a motion was approved to send all FER funds that are currently in that account to the Kent Ecumenical Food and Crisis Fund. This means that your blue bucket donations - or any other donations made out to FER in any way - will be sent to KEFCF each month. We will reserve and maintain $1,000 in the FER account to be used for emergency food gift cards, should the need arise. Kent Ecumenical Food and Crisis Fund does all the things we do but on a larger scale. They work with many churches within the county and provide all the same services. People requesting help will be referred to the James Williams State Service Center in Dover first and then to KEFCF where they will receive the help they need. Wyoming has supported Kent Ecumenical for many years and this new policy will streamline our process and eliminate duplicate screening and free up our office staff to do other tasks. We hope that you will mark your calendars and be prepared the next time you see those blue buckets to contribute what you can, over and above your regular giving. We are so blessed and God has showered his blessings on each one of us! This is a way we can help do God s work and shower others with blessings! School Supplies Needed! Every August it is truly a blessing to be able to deliver a car full of school supplies and book bags to the Caesar Rodney, Capital and Lake Forest School Districts. These supplies go to children whose families otherwise might have to choose between buying the needed school materials or paying the rent. This year the Outreach Team will again purchase about 100 backpacks to be divided between the three school districts. Vacation Bible School will be collecting school supplies during VBS. The congregation will also have a further opportunity to donate during July and August. The following supplies for needy elementary school students (in order of importance) are: Wide-ruled notebook paper #2 pencils Large erasers (pink block type) Small boxes of 16 crayons Small pencil boxes or zipper pouches Children s scissors Composition books Glue sticks Paper pocket folders Highlighters Rulers A box to collect supplies will be in the Narthex during the months of July and the first two weeks of August. Whatever we receive will be divided equally between the three school districts to use as needed. If you have any questions, please contact Carol Abbott or another member of the Outreach Team. Thanks to your support, needy students are able to have the supplies they need to do their work. Your donations make a big difference in the lives of children right here in Kent County! Carol Abbott, Outreach Team

THE WYOMING MESSENGER June 2018 Page 14 A House Built on Faith Join us as we prepare for Habitat s Faith Build Home to begin on July 11 th. On that day a wall of the home will be built with the hands of 2 volunteers from each church committed to this Faith Build Home. The home will be located on Kirkwood Street, Dover. This is the area that Habitat has designated for revitalization in downtown Dover. Habitat and Thrivent Financial have partnered to fund this house. Half of the cost will be provided by the eighteen churches who have committed to fund the building of the home and Thrivent Financial will match those funds. Wyoming UMC has pledged $3,000 to this project with donations from our congregation and Outreach Team. Envelopes will be provided for your convenience at the Faith Build House Display in the Narthex. We will be accepting donations until the end of June. What are other ways you can help?? We are slated to provide volunteers for two workdays Wednesday, September 12 th and Saturday, September 15 th. The tasks slated for those days are Interior cleaning and painting. This means that most everyone can participate! We need to provide people each day from 8:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Volunteers must be 16 and older and teens need to have a parent or adult with them. WUMC will provide lunch for the workers on both of those days. Volunteers will be needed to prepare and serve lunch to about 25 workers. You will hear more about the homeowner who was chosen by Habitat. Tamara Rodriquez and her three children will be the occupants of this new home. Tamara will provide sweat equity by being a part of the work crew during the building process. We hope to have Tamara come and speak to us at a Sunday service in the future. In the meantime, please pray for this project and support it in any way you can. Sign-up sheets will be available at the Faith Build Display. Won t you consider helping out??

THE WYOMING MESSENGER June 2018 Page 16 The June Prayer Breakfast for all of the men of the Church will be on Saturday the 30 th in the Backroom at Hall s Restaurant beginning at 7:30 AM and ending at 8:30 AM. The Mini Message will be Peace For All followed by ordering from the menu where we will enjoy good food, and great table fellowship. We can guarantee that you will like your time with us as we meet in our very informal and relaxed venue. All First Timers will be warmly welcomed and made to feel at home. Information/Questions --- Josh Turner Adult Fellowship will meet for the final time this season on Wednesday June 6th at 6PM. We do not have a host for the evening so table decorations will not be present. However, following with tradition, we will enjoy picnic foods, and the Kitchen Team has offered to prepare hamburgers and hot dogs to go along with your favorite picnic food covered dish. Don't forget your own place setting as we do not plan to wash dishes and utensils afterwards. Use your imagination and whip up something "picnic-ey" and exciting; be sure to bring enough to serve about 10 people. If someone wants to bring rolls for the hamburgers and hot dogs, please contact Nancy Sammons so she will not buy them. The costs of items purchased by the Kitchen team will be repaid from the "love offering". Neighbors and friends are invited! Next season, Adult Fellowship will begin on September 5th at 6PM. More info will follow later. Have a wonderful and God Blessed summer! George Pettyjohn While the Ladies' Wednesday Morning Study is on summer break (till September 19), the ladies (and any friends) are still meeting for an occasional Luncheon, this first one on Wednesday, June 13 at Abbott's Grill in Milford ( Contact Donna McCartney at (302) More information will be provided in Sunday's bulletins in June.

THE WYOMING MESSENGER June 2018 Page 17 Your Sexton Kitchen Team s (SKT) Summer plans seem to be increasing with each passing year. On Wednesday, June the 6 th, several Team members will be preparing Burgers and Dogs for those who attend the Adult Fellowship s Potluck Covered Dish Dinner in the Family Life Center beginning at 6:00 PM. If you are a long time member or a new attendee and have never taken the time to attend one of these great dinners you should seriously consider joining us on the 6 th. We guarantee that you will enjoy great food as only one can find at a Methodist Covered Dish Dinner. We also guarantee that you will be warmly welcomed to an event that is known for its informal, friendly and relaxed setting. We usually conclude by a little after 7 PM so that you can still enjoy the rest of the summer evening. We also guarantee that you will leave the dinner having made some new friends. The Team members will be putting finishing touches on the final plans for serving the hundreds of attending children their mid-morning snacks and beverage in the five days of Vacation Bible School from June 18 to 22 in the Family Life Center. This is in addition to the traditional Thursday, June 21 st, VBS Thank You Picnic for all of the youth, teachers, leaders, aides and support staff that serve as volunteers for this not-tobe-missed annual Wyoming Church outstanding event. In addition to all of the behind-the-scenes activity that your SKT members are doing for VBS, several team members are now undertaking the preplanning that is necessary for the Annual World Famous Peach Pie Sale & Bake Table that will occur on Saturday, August 4 th. Save this date of Saturday, August 4 th, so that you and your family can attend the Wyoming Church Yard Sale that is held in conjunction with the Town of Wyoming s Peach Festival. There are several other potential Summer SKT-sponsored events that are in the early stages of planning that you and your family may wish to attend. Make certain that you look for these activities in the forthcoming July/ August issue of the Wyoming Messenger as well as the Sunday bulletins. If you feel led to consider joining the Team, our very able and energetic Chair, Linda Booher ( ), will be delighted to talk with you. If you become a member of the SKT you will find that you ve allied yourself with a great group of friendly, helpful, supportive and kind folks. Vacation Bible School is just around the corner --- actually June 18 to 22. As you probable know by now, your Sexton Kitchen Team (SKT) will be providing the snacks and beverage (lemonade and/or water) for the expected 200 plus children as well as the more than 100 teachers, aides, volunteers, and youth helpers that are served a mid-morning respite all five days of the event. So we need lots of crystal/powdered lemonade. If you feel so led, please consider donating one or more containers of dissolvable lemonade. Just leave your donated containers at the SKT Kiosk in the Narthex. As always, your generosity is deeply appreciated. Questions --- Shelby Truitt The Sexton Kitchen Team s (SKT) World Famous Peach Pies are slated to appear on Saturday, August 4, 2018 at the Chef s kitchen at our Wyoming Church. This highly anticipated and always sold out event will be held in conjunction with the Wyoming Church s Annual Peach Festival Yard Sale. Sign up sheets will be available in the Narthex beginning in mid June. Look for the Peach Pie article in the forthcoming July and August Wyoming Messenger issues that will share with you all of the specific information that you will need to know prior to placing your World Famous Peach Pie Order(s).

THE WYOMING MESSENGER June 2018 Page 20 Receiving God s Best at the 2018 Ladies Retreat! WOW!! God really sent His BEST when He gave us Kim Bryan, Janna Whitenight and Tracy Fennemore! They were His A (Angel) Team to be sure!! In 24 short hours, 48 wonderful women shared the precious blessings that God had planned for us through these lovely ladies and their super support team. In the beautiful Camp Pecometh setting, with gorgeous weather and comfortable accommodations all rolled together in a perfect package our time together included: Eating delicious meals & snacks (that we didn t have to prepare!) Playing games filled with fun, fellowship, and laughter!! Ever heard of Farkle? Finding out who our Secret Sister was! Enjoying late night chats & small group discussions filled with smiles, hugs, and caring tears of compassion. Being TOTALLY entertained by a side-splitting skit and trip to the Royal Wedding in England with Joy (Tracy) and Blesstiny (Janna), complete with Shopping Tips for the Big Day in a video by John Crist (Christian Comedian) and a special presentation of a Royal souvenir to someone with the initials of DH! (Guess who?) Singing our theme hymn Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus and other meaningful praise songs and hymns. (Hey You really sounded good ladies!) Praying (without ceasing or whenever possible!) and Celebrating Communion together. Spending time with our Sisters in Christ and rejoicing that we had seven (7) Mother (Mother-in-law)/ Daughter duos and a couple REAL Sister/Sister (in-law) duos, not to mention all the old and new friends, seeking a time of Rest, Relaxation, and Repose. But most importantly, studying and finding meaning for our lives in the Holy Word of God, thanks to our inspired and terrific Teacher, Kim Bryan, as outlined briefly below. Jesus said, If you can believe (TRUST), all things are possible to him who believes (TRUSTS). Mark 9:23 Kim helped us delve into the Bible, and understand how over 100 selected verses of the Bible (Pearls on Pages!) teach us what our role should be in Receiving God s Best and how we should apply these Godly principles in our everyday living. Using her delightful delivery, simple stories of illustration, authoritative acronyms and realistic rhymes, Kim taught us SO much and challenged us to TRUST in the Lord every day, and ACCOUNT for our walk with Him by using the C-P-A method. Cooperate Be in agreement with God. You do You in me, Jesus. Participate Say Yes, and He will Bless. Anticipate Pray, Obey & Say. Anticipate the Awe-Dacious!! Speaking from the heart and sharing her tremendous testimony of how God has worked (and is working) in her life, each of us was challenged to be Followers of the Word and not just Knowers of the Word, and in so doing, we will Receive God s Best. Thank you, dear Kim, for your thought-provoking message, the handouts and devotionals and BOOK that you provided, and for your loving presence with us during the 2018 Women s Retreat at Pecometh. It was most definitely a TREAT sent from Heaven! Many thanks to the A-Team and Support Team that made it possible to have this time away. Each PARTICIPANT appreciates your calling and your contributions!! To God Be the Glory!!
