This may not be the final look for next year s newsletter but it is my effort to get a early start on what it might look like. Hope you like it! As you can see I started out this issue with our next HOW get together which will be the Christmas Luncheon. The story about the rally in Durant begins on page 3 of this issue. I will now be preparing the newsletter using a new program, Microsoft Publisher. This is because the old program has become dated and will not work as well on the Windows 7 operating system. This will not change anything on your end you will still receive the newsletter as a PDF file. The easiest is to bring your $30 to the Christmas Luncheon on December 17th. The Treasurer will be there to receive your money and in addition you will be able to save yourself the cost of a stamp to have the check mailed. Renew Now! Happy (OK) Wanderers Asked to Volunteer During the Durant Rally, HOW President Judy Janicke was contacted by phone by FMCA South Central Area Vice-President, Charlie Adcock, asking the chapter to volunteer to work during the South Central Area Rally that will be held in Shawnee at the Expo Center September Discussion was held after the Sunday Evening Meal with a show of hands of those who were willing to work at this rally. Fourteen Coaches indicated their interest in participating in this event. During this discussion there were no details available concerning the number of coaches that South Central was requesting HOW to provide. Once that number is received our officers will be better able to determine if we have enough members to participate. Those not attending the Durant Rally will be contacted to determine their interest. This may be done through the newsletter or at a future rally. Expect more information to follow when available.

3 December Page 3 FALL FEST IN DURANT A row of ghosts led members to the entrance, and Fall and Halloween festive decorations greeted members as they entered the rally room for our Fall Fest in Durant at the Choctaw KOA on October Several coaches had fall decorations, including President Judy Janicke who had a witch and broom flying over her picnic table. Thirty-one coaches brought 59 people to the rally including six guests. Early arrivals joined together to travel to Huck s in Dennison, TX for catfish on Wednesday evening. More had arrived on Thursday, so some drove to Kingston to BJ s Catch and some to downtown Durant to Roma s Italian Restaurant. Fall arrival packets were distributed by Leroy Hinderliter. Hosts were Judy Janicke, Betty Shedrick and Lois Austin, Anne and Chuck Myers, Lois and Leroy Hinderliter, Mary and Earl Powell and Carl Threlkeld. Group games included Betty and Lois Crazy Cards on Friday in which you received points sometimes and sometimes you earned zeros. On Saturday, Chuck Myers led Pass the Ace game for dimes and several were in the grace period with no money for a long time, and some for a very short time. Saturday afternoon college football games brought another unique group activity with Sooners watching at one end of the room and Pokes at the opposite end. High scores, high fives, waving arms, and Boomer Sooner abounded during the simulcasts. Both teams were triumphant! Chocolate lovers were able to share their expertise in Betty s Sunday s game. All were rewarded with chocolate! Several mastered Lois brain teaser included in the arrival packets. Many game and door prizes were given. Several of the prizes were provided by Durant merchants thanks to Durant City Manager Jim Dunegan and Don Kinnamon. Following the group games, several played cards and other games. Who knew that a box of free Sex and the City T-shirts would disappear so quickly?? Donning a Cowboy hat, Chuck Myers shared a Cowboy story on Measurement. In addition, we had some unexpected visitors on Sunday evening. But it was close to Halloween. Three clowns showed up and shared treats with everyone!! But one other stressed or distressed woman wearing a sign on her handbag was looking for?????? money or a husband??? Their identities were undisclosed to protect the innocent?? Friday s Salad and Dessert Pot Luck Dinner was bountiful and delicious. Saturdays Breakfast Casserole by Food Prep! It seems that every rally requires time to prepare a meal. Judy Janicke, Ann Meyers, Betty Shedrick, Lois Hinderliter, and Mary Powell work on scramble egg casserole for breakfast. Lois A., fresh fruit and toast with a choice of 3 toppings were devoured before the Business Meeting and Election of 2012 Officers and the adoption of 2012 Rally Sites and Dates. Choir Practice followed the business meeting. Thanks to everyone bringing a canned vegetable, the Hobo Stew from all the canned goods with some seasonings and ground beef added was a delicious Saturday evening meal. Green Tossed Salad and Anne Myer s Cornbread completed the menu along with banana pudding with candy corn or pumpkins or gummy worms atop. Chuck Myer s pancakes accompanied by sausage patties, fruit salad and juice got us going on Sunday morning. Ron Wadley s Striving to be a Mature Christian devotional and the glorious Happy (OK) Wanderers choir was a morning highlight. It was en-

4 Page 4 December Rally Offered by OK Tourism As mentioned in the minutes and the business meeting, Mary Powell was visiting the exhibitor booths at the South Central Area Rally in Hutchinson, KS in September when she came across the information below about a rally that the Oklahoma Department of Tourism is conducting at the Shawnee Expo Center in early May of She felt that some members of the club might be interested in attending and asked that a copy of the brochure be included in the newsletter. If interested contact the 800 number listed below. Third Vice-President 2011, Dave Demuth, reported on 2012 rallies Sites: (See Page two of this newsletter for a list of rally sites.) Unfortunately, the hotel tour did not happen but several did enjoy the discount coupons for the buffet at the casino. Our Old Fashioned Sunday Fried Chicken Dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, tossed salad, Anne s Cole Slaw, hot rolls and orange sherbet with chocolate cookies was a special treat. Monkey Bread, juice and milk filled us as we bid farewell to our friends until the Christmas Luncheon in Stroud. The hosts thank those who helped bake the breakfast casseroles and brought extra Bundt pans for the monkey bread. No over the top disasters happened with this Monkey Bread baking although some came close. Several members relate the tales of preparing monkey bread at a much earlier rally and the bread rising so much that it filled their ovens too much! Two new members joined our chapter at the rally. Chris and Marvin Curtis of Oklahoma City and Jim and Sandy Dunegan of Durant are welcome additions to the group. Welcome!!! Just ask Jim Walker, Chuck Meyers, John Trivette, and Marvin Curtis. Who Let the Clowns In? Suddenly, when you think it is safe Here come the Clowns! Or more specific Charlene Sasser, Darlene Demuth, and Lyda Walker. Food and then some more Food! There are many things that we do at a rally but, who can pass up a chance to have homemade pancakes made by Chuck Meyer.
