3 GRAND KNIGHT S MESSAGE Brother Knights Many thanks are in order. We made it through our officer installations, with the help of Brother Fred Kunkel, who provided the meal, and Brothers Paul Britton, and Blasé Nicosia jumping in to help serve the meal. Blasé did double duty, as he was the official photographer at both events. At the installation, Past Grand Knight Larry Seick announced the Family of the Year, and the Knight of the Year Awards. Shirley and Mike McClusky are the Family of the Year, and John Sharp is the Knight of the Year. I couldn t think of more appropriate recipients. Congratulations to Mike and Shirley, and Brother John. I personally have to thank John Armstrong for helping me weather the intricacies of my new position. He has managed to keep me out of trouble for one month. John faces a Herculean task of keeping me out of trouble for the next 11 months. Finally, I have to thank all my brother Knights who braved the heat, sun and rain and the drivers out on the Prince of Peace parking lot. The Feast of the Assumption was a particularly tough day. I am proud to say that no Knights, (or parishioners) were harmed in the resurfacing of the lot. The volunteer spirit was really on display for the months of July and August. Lets try to keep that spirit up as our Council rolls out it series of events. While our event schedule is still being determined, we hope to have a full and successful fraternal year. While we try to put on nice events, let s remember the monthly things we do, and not let them fall under the radar. Consider helping Brother Leo Pelzel with Project Hunger, volunteering to help at St. Vincent DePaul, or driving for Meals on Wheels. 4 FAITHFUL NAVIGATOR D ear Brother Sir Knights I hope everyone had a wonderful summer. While summer officially ends in September and Labor Day weekend is frequently thought of as the end of summer up north, here in Florida we practically have endless summer which is great for most people. On July 22 we had our installation of new officers. Bob Marrah, State Ceremonial Director performed the installation in the church. Many wives were in attendance as well as many non-officers showing their support which was great to see. During the installation, the officer s wives each received a red rose which they much appreciated. These officers will be in their positions from July 1, 2018 until June 30, I believe we have a great group of officers as well as an entire great group of Sir Knights in our Assembly. After the installation, many Knights and wives went over to the Sandpiper Grille where we socialized and ate a nice dinner. On August 22 we had a new officer training meeting which was led by immediate past Faithful Navigator Duncan Farney. He covered a lot of important items which will certainly help in preparing us new officers for the coming year. This meeting was well attended by most off our new officers as well as some non-officers. After the training, we had a planning meeting where we discussed some possible special events for the coming year such as a black tie social event, Renewal of Obligations, Sir Knights attending All Souls Day mass as a group, and a Communion Breakfast. In paying tribute to PFN Nick Avella and his family, we purchased a chalice, had it engraved and gave it to Father Charles Oyo who will take it back to Uganda where he or another priest will use it during mass. The chalice was engraved In Memory of Nicola T Avella, February 17, 1935-July 6, 2018, Knights of Columbus, Assembly Our first Business meeting of the year will be Tuesday September 18 in the Conesa Center KC meeting room. I hope to see all of you there to get our new year off to a good start. Our first pancake breakfast of the new year will be the 4th Sunday of September which is September 23. John Boa will again be leading the Pancake Breakfasts and I believe area leads are also in place. Please plan to help with the breakfasts if able to, and if not helping, please plan to attend to eat if possible. Everyone s support of these pancake breakfasts is much appreciated. In October we will be back to the 3rd Sunday of the month with the pancake breakfast being on October 21. I look forward to seeming many of you again soon.
