And that's because we have trouble deciding what's most important. Someone said, We must keep the main thing the main thing, and that s Jesus. An incident a couple of summers ago in San Antonio, Texas, illustrates what I'm talking about. It was a hot, 99-degree August day when a ten-month-old baby girl was accidentally locked in a parked car by her aunt. Frantically the mother and the aunt ran around the auto in near hysteria, while a neighbor attempted to unlock the car with a coat hanger. The infant was bawling at the top of its lungs, beginning to turn purple and foam from the mouth, a combination of anxiety and the intense heat inside the car. It had quickly become a life-and-death situation when somebody grabbed a hammer from his trunk, smashed a back window, and saved the baby. Praise God: and the folks there cheered him as a hero. But Wait, There s More was he a While I was re-reading some notes and publications, I came upon my favorite John Wesley quote from What is Man? Your life is conditioned to you upon the earth for no other purpose than this: that you may know, love, and serve God on earth, and enjoy him to all eternity. hero? No, not so, according to a published article in the San Antonio Tribune, the so called hero is quoted as saying, "The lady was mad at me because I broke the window. I just thought, 'What's more important a baby or a window?" Most of the choices we make in life aren t between what s trivial and what s important. Rather, most of our choices are made between what s important and what s more important. This morning's Gospel reading is so timely for us because it shows us what is most important. Check out John Here s verses 34 and 35, and what Jesus thinks of What s more important a baby or a window". Jesus said, A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another."

2 Eleven women from Fairfax traveled to Kansas City on Saturday, April 24 to see and hear the Beth Moore Simulcast which was held at Northgate Baptist Church. The title of the simulcast was "So Long Insecurities". Beth Moore is one of the most dynamic speakers in the United States today. She presents her messages in such a way that people can understand, and she is excellent at teaching from the Bible. The eleven women from Fairfax enjoyed the whole day. It was a wonderful time of learning as well as fellowship together. All eleven were able to sit at one table, visit, and enjoy our lunch together. The time flew. Everyone was inspired to work hard to make it available to everyone in Northwest Missouri this fall. It is a wonderful tool that would bring the message of Jesus Christ to so many in our community, and allow many women in our community to enjoy time together in Christ. This simulcast was seen by 300,000 women in 860 sites across the United States. Beth Moore Seed and Soil Sunday was held on Sunday, April 25th. The purpose of this dedication was to ask God's blessing for the seed, for the soil, and for the safety of those who labor in the fields. The church was decorated in a seed and soil theme with a miniature windmill for the "farm looking" effect. HA Sly and Harry Combs were honored as members of our congregation who have been involved in agriculture for many years. They were presented with a water jug and chore gloves. Everyone in attendance was given a gladiola bulb. The men were given chore gloves, and the women were all given a tomato plant. The presentation was made by Phil and Charla Graves and Ralph and Gale Ball. As disciples of Jesus, we are all called to plant a seed. The seed of God's word in our heart and in the heart of others. Sowing seeds of God's Word in the hearts of others is like sowing a field of corn. You don't know why it works, you just know it does. One tiny little seed begins to grow and multiply, and the word is spread to many who may have never known Jesus, and his overwhelming love for us. 5 The UMW Evening Edition met on Wednesday, April 14, The pot luck meal/meeting was opened with prayer by Connie Eighmy. Those members in attendance were Connie Eighmy, Carly and Jack West, Jan Taylor, Sandy Burke, Alice Kemerling, Lois Wiley, Charla Graves, Michele Hawkins, and Gale Ball. Following the meal, Michele Hawkins called the meeting to order beginning with prayer concerns of our church family members and friends. The Beth Moore planning committee explained that they had met and presented their request to the board on Monday. They received the board s permission to proceed with fundraising events to get this program off the ground. The UMW Evening Edition members eagerly brainstormed with many fun and exciting programs and events that we will be hosting in the next few months to raise funds for this project for fellowship and entertainment for the entire congregation. Our first event will be held on Sunday, May 2 nd with a Ham Dinner at the church. The Food Pantry donation for the month was $18. Michele Hawkins ended the meeting with an inspirational devotion. Next meeting will be held, Wednesday, May 12 th Respectfully submitted Gale Ball Festival of Sharing response to help the people of Haiti This winter after the Haiti earthquake we learned that the kits we sent in October from Sedalia, were already in position in the Dominican Republic. Distribution of these kits began within 48 hours of the quake. The need is great in Haiti so we asked churches to assemble health kits, baby layette kits and Medicine boxes to send to Haiti. We asked churched from different areas of the state to be local drop off sights for us. We had 16 locations. Several of the churches had members that volunteered to ring the kits collected at their church and stop along the way at other sights to pick up their kits and bring them. In two and a half weeks the faith communities of Missouri had contributed 14,820 health kits. Upon arrival they were sent immediately to Haiti. We will be sending Health kits and Layette kits again in June. Kits will be picked up in Springfield at the United Methodist Conference the first week of June and other denominational conferences in Springfield if possible. If you would like to contribute, please have your kit(s) back to the church on Sunday, May 30th so we can get them packed up for our group to take with them to the Annual Conference the next weekend. HEALTH KIT 1 hand towel (folded as flat as possible) 1 wide-tooth comb (packaging removed) 1 nail clipper (packaging removed) 1 bar of soap 1 washcloth 6 Band-Aids 1 toothbrush (in original packaging) Leave the self-closing bag open about an inch. LAYETTE KIT 6 cloth diapers 2 diaper pins 2 t-shirts or undershirts (no onesies) 2 washcloths 2 gowns or sleepers 1 sweater or sweatshirt 2 receiving blankets (One can be a knitted blanket) All items should be new. Bundle items inside one receiving blanket and secure with diaper pins. Place completed kits in a sturdy box and label the box with the number and type of kits.

7 Stewardship Trusting God with Our Money and Our Future A few years ago I was visiting with a mother in our church foyer between Sunday school and the worship hour. Josh (who was about three years old) came around the corner with a donut in his hand. Annette looked at him in surprise and asked, Where did you get the money for that? (At the fellowship hour, people put in a quarter to cover the cost of donuts.) Josh said, I saved it from the offering. A lot of people operate out of that mindset. How often do we save money from the offering plate to buy something for ourselves because we re afraid we won t have what we need? That behavior is funny in a three-year-old; it s a little more serious when it s a thirty year- old. All through the Bible, God s principle is give to receive. That contrasts with our American thought pattern of gather and keep for ourselves. Which belief do you follow? In Malachi 3:8-10 God says, Will a man rob God? Yet you rob me. But you ask, How do we rob you? In tithes and offerings. You are under a curse - the whole nation of you - because you are robbing me. Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and see if I will not throw open the flood gates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. The Bible is full of scriptures like this. Because of those promises in God s word, I can give freely and joyfully, trusting that God will give me what I need. I want God in control of my finances. After all, everything I have came from Him in the first place. Yet I wonder how many times we have saved our money from the offering to buy a donut (and felt pretty good because we had more donuts than the guy next to us), when our heavenly father wanted to give us steak? You don t have to believe that Scripture. You can keep your money and talents. God will keep His hands off and let you control it all. But as for me, I want the God of miracles in control of my finances. I want the God who fed 5,000 people with three fish to be in control of my money. When was the last time you talked with a homeless person who said, Well, I was doing fine until I started that tithing business. God is a loving Father we can trust. People who say, I just can t afford to tithe approach the subject of giving a tithe as if it were a sacrifice instead of a blessing. I can t afford not to tithe is a more accurate statement of what happens when we put God first. Many times, tithing is the only reason I made it through the month. Trust God to be who He says He is [Laurie Foster, Lubbock, Texas] UMW News The Annual UMW Spring Brunch was held on April 8, 2010, in the fellowship hall of the church at 9:00 AM. A cross and open Bible with white and pink placemats along with packets of flower seeds greeted each person. Barb Jones was hostess and also gave the Seed and Soil program. We focused on the fact that God will plant you where you are needed. Scripture was read and a prayer given. Some seeds of kindness were also planted at the brunch. Refreshments of fruit, donuts and coffee were served to the following: Darla Harbin, Iva Lou Hall, Dorothy Davis, Jerry Whittington, Deane Gomel and Pastor Mike Eighmy. We MUST take that knowledge we gathered on Sunday and take it out into the world on Monday, or we have missed the intent of our Savior s commission to spread the seed: Matt 28:19-20 NIV 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.

Permit #10 Ham Dinner Fundraiser Sunday, May 2nd after worship We are raising money for a Projector/Screen System to be used in the sanctuary of the church. It will be used for presentations during worship services, Bible School, Bible Studies, special music, special events and other Christian broadcasting events to inspire God's word through power point presentations and music. The Community is invited to attend and will be invited to share in future Christian program and events at our church to share God's word.
