Idaho Street Boise, ID P O T E N A T E S M E S S A G E It s hard to believe that the days are getting shorter and that snow will soon be falling. The summer has been a busy one. From picnics to football games to Imperial Session, your divan has attended as many as we could. The circus was a sell out in Idaho Falls this year. I believe we could attribute that to the direct marketing that we had in that area. In Pocatello the showing from people was about the same as years before. In Twin Falls the evening show was another sell out. We had fantastic shows in Boise as well. I would like to thank all the nobles who helped along the way. There are too many to name, and even if I did name them all, I would probably forget someone. Thank you TEAM! Future events are the Food Caravan to Portland October 15th, Sportsman s Raffle on October 29th, Ceremonial November 11th and 12th, All-Star football game on November 26th. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend. I would like to stress the fact that we are nowhere near the goal of 50 new members. Please if you know someone who would like to join El Korah please let s get them a petition to join. Please take time to read the new and improved Desert Dust. We have made some changes that I believe most will like. We are still looking to do the version of as many pages as we can, and a version that will be mailed out to the nobles who do not have access to the electronic version. C h a p l a i n s C o r n e r Hope to see everyone at the September Stated meeting on September 14th, with Social hour starting at 6:00 pm and dinner served at 6:30 pm. There should be a lot of business to catch up on and important information shared. Yours in the faith, Corey J. Turner Corey J. Turner Potentate We hope you have all enjoyed a healthy and enjoyable summer. Now is the time for all of us to resume our Masonic Labors. We hope most of us will be returning to assist our Masonic Lodges. This is where we should be devoting time so we well have a good class of candidates for our fall Ceremonial. When we are driving down the street we should be paying special attention to the school children who be walking and talking while crossing the streets. It is our duty to insure they have a safe crossing, even though they may be excited about the first days of school. A PRAYER FOR THOUGHT I waited patiently for God to help me, Then He listened and heard me cry. He lifted me out of the pit of despair, our from the bog and the mire, and set my feet on a hard, and firm path, and steadied me as I walked along SHALOM

2 Page 2 El Korah Shrine Membership I hope everyone enjoyed their summer. We had so many fun events like the Shrine Circus, North and South Football, East and West Football, PNSA and many fun Parades. Events likes these are great opportunities to bring in more Nobles and their Ladies into our Philanthropy. There is nothing more rewarding then visiting our Shriners Children hospitals and seeing first hand the children we help. They are so full of love, life and energy. No matter how smart, talented, driven, or passionate you are, your success as an Noble or Lady depends on your ability to build and inspire a team. A successful leader is one who can spur his or her team members to work well together toward a common vision and goals. We can be great together. Blake Titus Membership Chairman Tin Lizzie Travels John D. Martin Cell Bus Fax N 27th Street Boise, ID jdmart@msn.com After a busy summer filled with parades and practices, the Tin Lizzies were proud to represent El Korah at the 2016 PNSA held in Billings, MT this past month. Noble Johnny Willis had the task of making sure that all the cars and trailer arrived there in one piece. We are pleased to say he did so despite the hardships of wind, rain, smoke and idiots on the road. All of the Tin Lizzie drivers who were there, Jay Leonard (Drill Instructor), Ray Liercke (President), Mike Keas (Secretary), Ron Harris, Alan Fox, and Jack Moore, did an excellent job of maintaining our award winning status. We ended up getting First Place in the 4-Wheel Division. The award was presented to us by none less than Imperial Sir, Chris Smith. And what would a PNSA be like if our entire group of Tin Lizzie cars weren t pulled over at least once by the local Police. Rumor has it that they nailed us for breaking the speed limit. Go figure. All in all, we had a great time and are looking to going to PNSA next year in Seattle, WA. We do hope to see many of you at the Mountain Home Air Force Appreciation Day Parade Saturday September 10 th. Come out and show your support for our Vets. 3 Page 3 Telehealth Comes to Idaho Falls! Shriners Hospitals for Children (SHC) continues to advance the field of medicine and put the patient experience first with its new Telehealth initiative recently launched in Idaho Falls! SHC s Telehealth Care Network uses a cutting-edge mobile cart to connect physicians and patients by video feed for follow-up visits. Telehealth clinic visits provide the same world-class care, but without the inconvenience of traveling far distances. The Salt Lake City hospital is a natural fit for this SHC pilot program with its large catchment area serving all surrounding states in the Intermountain West. Participating patients will travel a much shorter distance to an affiliate health care provider closer to their home, where medical staff there will assist in facilitating the appointment with their physician at Shriners Hospital for Children Salt Lake City. In Idaho Falls, patients will go to partnering affiliate site Community Council of Idaho for clinic visits, and Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center for x-rays. SHC s Telehealth Care Network s goals are to increase patient access, reduce Shrine Temple and SHC transportation costs, and decrease travel time and missed school and work. The Salt Lake City hospital is one of three Shriners Hospitals for Children participating in a pilot Telehealth program, including the Galveston and Philadelphia hospitals. Beyond Idaho Falls, the Salt Lake City hospital has an additional Telehealth site in Rock Springs, Wyoming. The SHC Telehealth Care Network clinic in Idaho Falls began in August We will keep you apprised of potential opportunities to be involved in the program s launch and ongoing success. We have had had a great turn out for the Emmett, Meridian, Cascade, and Baker Parades. We even had time to throw in a couple for BBQ s. A huge THANK YOU to Garland and Sue Risner for the use of their shop and hospitality. The Duners have picked up several new members also. We would like to welcome aboard Chris Burgess, Mike Torres, Seth Van Wassenhove, Shane Curry, Will Votaw, Barry Newell, Bob Al- bert and Mike Yavno. The Screening Clinic is in the final planning stages. The Screening Clinic will be held Oct. 1 from 9:00am till 1:00pm at the new Meridian Boys and Girls Club. We want to invite all new Shriners to attend as this is an excellent opportunity to experience first-hand why we do what we do to help out a child and their families. To not leave anyone out, everyone is in- NOMAD NEWS This has been an interesting year for Nomad camping. We have had a few great campouts, but we have had several campouts that have not happened at all. Some years are like that. Perhaps next year will be better. However, before we put this year behind us, there are still several great opportunities to get together at some wonderful campgrounds. Here is the remaining schedule for the year as I understand it. If you are not a Nomad, come join us at a campout or our September meeting. You are always welcome and we can always take care of your membership on the spot. In September, we have scheduled a campout at Arrowhead RV Park in Cascade the weekend of Sept The Fannin s have agreed to host a breakfast one morning. The last I knew Jean and I were the only ones with reservations. So make your reservation now by calling Arrowhead RV at They had lots of room when we called and they are saving a number of sites for the Nomads. Jean and I will host. I will give it a little time before I check again, but if there aren t several more reservations by September 18 th, we will have to cancel this campout. Trailing of the Sheep campout at The Meadows in Ketchum is scheduled for October 6 9. Call for reservations. Campsites were very limited when we called. We still need camp hosts. Finally, our fall meeting has been moved to September 29 th at El Korah. Mark your calendars now! Social is at 6 PM. Dinner will be at 6:30 PM with the meeting to follow. Dinner will be potluck. The club will provide the meat for the meal. We ask you to bring your favorite dish to share and your own table service. Any Shriner interested in joining the Nomads or just in camping is welcome to join us. We will be electing officers for 2017 at this meeting. Being absent will not keep you safe, so come to the meeting to protect yourself. ELITE BLACK LIGHT PATROL The Patrol has had a busy summer season. Our first event was our annual summer picnic. Again this year Gary and Joyce Adams hosted the picnic at their very accommodating home in Nampa. Tommy Hisaw was the chairman and did an excellent job of making the arrangements for very tasty dinner complete with sweet corn and all the trimmings. We also were treated to never ending margaritas by Noble Clyde Schrader. We were joined by about 35 attendees who all enjoyed the day. Thanks to all for a great picnic. The next order of business this summer was the Southwest Idaho Fair in Garden City. We were assigned two shifts to sell tickets for the Sportsman's Raffle on August 19, the first day of the Fair. Even though we had several problems with sickness and other things we were able to man both shifts. We have to extend a big thank you to PP Dick McFarland who came on down and took a shift to help us out. Hope everyone is having a great summer and all is well. A reminder Patrolman. Our regular startup meeting for the Fall will be on September 26. See you all then.

6 Page 6 If you bake a cupcake, the world has one more cupcake. If you become a circus clown, the world has one more squirt of seltzer down someone's pants. Our inability to connect what seems illogical to unite and to defy logic in our under- Ticket sales are unbelievable in 2016!!! This is our second year of the Sportsman's Raffle and it looks like we are on schedule to exceed our sales from a very successful initial year last year! Thank you to everyone who sold tickets at the Western Idaho Fair and a special thank you to John Martin and Charlie Bull who organized the folks who generously gave of their time to staff our booth for those ten days. Last year over 10% of our sales came from that event. Thank you again to everyone who participated. The "Top Gun" awards are in the making for 2016 and there are a few folks who are well on their way to getting one of those jackets! Last year the mark to exceed was 45 books and there were five guys who sold that many books of tickets. For anyone who sells 15 books or more, Clowns Corner standing keeps us from enlightenment. The artists and insane tiptoe around such insights, but lack the compassion to handfeed these concepts to a blind world. What does this mean I don t know I am just a clown bringing Sportsman s Raffle Update The Redneck Culinary Klub Is available for your events We have a mobile Barbeque trailer for remote events. We can prepare food for your event at the temple. For more info please contact Blake Titus or Jay Garrett the Sportsman's Raffle will pay your dues for the next year and there were 18 Nobles who qualified. What everyone is discovering is that these tickets are easy to sell and even to folks who don't necessarily need or care for guns because the winners receive a gift card. That gift card is in the amount of the prize and can be used for anything in the store such as clothing, camping gear, hunting and fishing gear. Sportsman's Warehouse has something for about everyone and El Korah is a cause most people will gladly support. We simply need to ask... In 2015 we had collected enough proceeds by the end of August to cover the cost of the prizes and it looks like we are very close to doing that again. Hopefully by the Smiles and joy to the masses. Bring joy into the world join the clowns, we have red noses and big feet :) Hey look Squirrel Redneck Culinary Klub time you are reading this, we will have reached that important milestone. Once those prizes are paid for, every ticket sold is profit to El Korah! It's really important that everyone get their ticket stubs and money sent in. Please mail them and the checks, (no cash please) to the address on the back of the ticket stubs. We have a drop box outside the Recorder's office or you can drop them by Garland Risner's office in Meridian. Call LD Ridenour at if you need tickets and he will get them to you promptly. Let's all get out and sell enough books of tickets to get your dues paid next year!!!! Don't forget that the event this year is on October 29th and it's free Burgers, Brats, and Beer or sodas for all ticket holders. The event last year was an absolute blast for everyone who attended.
