The SCJ Jedi Knights have reached their 4th year of positive growth. Their recent success is noticed by the sinister Empire, which is rising to combat the virtues of DeMolay. As the hardships of the world continue we need to breed troops for Sith or Jedi. It is appropriate to hold our annual Leadership Camp to guide young Padawans to learn the DeMolay ways of the Force. SCJ s Brotherhood of the Force Camp is February 8-10 th, with a special double camp this year (Councilor Camp and Leadership Camp). There is a wait list for those interested in attending. These camps really help to teach the aspects of DeMolay as well as motivate the members to become better leaders. I can't wait to see everyone there! A reminder to everyone that the JO's will be unavailable February 23rd due to our attendance at the Past Master s Dinner. They do so much to sponsor us and we need to recognize their support with our attendance. In March we have our Membership Class on the 16th. This day will be a sandwich of fun, jam-packed with: Degrees, Lunch, Devotional Service, Video Game Tournament, and ending the day, BIG, with a Dance. It's a great prospect party and a day of degrees that you should make sure not to miss! Please bring spare money to donate to the Raise a Reader bucket and/or $25 from your chapter if your chapter has sufficient funds to vote out in order to help this project. The next day, Sunday the 17 th, is our SCJ Family Fun Day at Magic Mountain! I know, I ll repeat it again. The Jurisdiction Officers worked for you to bring our fun day back to SIX FLAGS MAGIC MOUNTAIN. The Presidents will be selling tickets as well as your League Advisors. Make sure to attend all these events if possible and use these prospect parties to help gain new members. Every member of the rebellion had a reason for joining the cause. Every DeMolay had a reason for joining the Order of DeMolay. Find your inspiration and sell that to a young man so that he may benefit as well as you did. Fraternally, SCJ Master Councilor: Chris Baker SCJ D E P U T Y M A S T E R COU N C I L O R Hey SCJ! First off I would like to thank all who participated at SCJ Ritual Comp and I hope to see an even bigger attendance next year! This month we will be having Atwater membership class on February 16th, please contact Brother Greg Groshko if you wish to participate Also this month, please support Temecula Chapter's Membership Class and Installation on February 17th a flower talk will follow both degrees and a lunch is being provided. I hope our Jedi Knights can support them with the spirit SCJ is famous for! SCJ has done extremely well and has had a bookmark year having many chapters and leagues holding membership classes and new chapters are even springing forth! There is currently a poll on the jurisdictional Facebook page regarding the DeMolay and More Store please participate so we can provide you with a store that tends to your needs. Do your best to advertise DeMolay and promote, promote, promote! Your only an Active DeMolay once take advantage! Carpe Diem! Keep up the amazing work you definitely make me proud to say I am an SCJ DeMolay! Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. You re my only hope. Fraternally, Kevin Gonzalez SCJ Deputy Master Councilor

SCJ Valentines 3 Boxes of See s Candy Stuart Blair Master Squire An Invisibility Cloak & Wings to Fly my Valentine any were she want to go Ben Carow Conejo Valley Chapter Valentine s Day: it is a commercial way of expressing ones feelings to a loved one or a friend you care about. Some people call it singles awareness, but I think it should be the day of love between your friends, family, and even that special someone. The guy s don't have to be the ones always purchasing flowers for the ladies. Buy him some flowers and a card that says something sweet, I guarantee he will be surprised and in love with the sweet idea, they also do love a teddy bear, it s the thought that counts, they are all softies. Caitlin Tabrisky SCJ Sweetheart Jayme Specker SCJ Princess A good date: dinner and something fun like bowling, movies, or something to keep me laughing or interested. Gifts: roses, candy, or something with thought. Paige Marie Downey Princess A Time Machine A Case of Butterfingers & Dr. Pepper would definitely make my day Caleb Elston SCJ Congress Secretary To live would be an awfully big adventure knowing that she is the only one for me. My perfect date would be going to the aquarium, then going and walking the pier, getting ice cream, all while watching the sunset. Chelsea Mazer Neo-Trital Sweetheart My thoughts for a great Valentines date would be going out to dinner and seeing a great move (Like Titanic). What I would like to get as a gift would be a box of chocolates. Cassie Hagerman Titan Sweetheart SCJ Jedi Knights, Every woman deserves to be appreciated. Please show your genuine appreciation for your lady, advisor, sister, mother, or friend this Valentine s Day. Do your best to ensure that each lady has a smile on their face through you in one way or another. Chris Baker SCJ Master Councilor My idea for a perfect Valentine would be a candle light dinner with a home cooked meal prepared by a special someone. Then cuddling and watching romantic movies. The perfect gift for me would be a jumbo size teddy bear and a tray of cheesecake with a red rose. Lerina Galba-Bright Sonora Sweetheart The best thing is spending time and going out for dinner or doing something unique like ice skating; any way to spend time together. Chocolates and Flowers can be overused; so spice it up with variety every now and then, but keep the date special. Caitlyn Lamb Paradise Sweetheart See whose ideas might come in handy this year

3 Page 3 February 2013 SCJ Valentines Continued My perfect gift idea is the classic teddy bear with a box of chocolates. The ideal date for me would be a nice trip to Disneyland with a picnic next to the castle and watching the fireworks. Daniel White Paradise President My perfect Valentines date would be a day spent with someone I love doing what she loves to do, and my perfect gift would be sporting event tickets. Tyler Davis Titan President Try a gift that also has little puns of your girlfriends traits, and who she is as a person. Along with little mementos of memorabilia that gives off that feeling of nostalgia Connor Shinn Royal Coast President I will show my appreciation for women by telling my Mom Advisors they are awesome and spending time with all ladies who are there for me. Jacob Cole What I plan on doing this Valentines Day is to treat all women with respect through acts of kindness every minute of everyday. Jeff Merwin I m going to treat her like the princess she is, no different from any other day. You don't nee one day to express your love for someone, when you should be doing it all 365 days a year. I m probably going to take her to dinner, then on this hill by a church where you can watch the sunset and see the stars and talk with her all night, just holding her in my arms. Christopher Baker PMC Yorba Linda From the Presidents of SCJ I m traditional. I start out with a date bringing her flowers and chocolate. Then, we would stroll to the park, where she would find a picnic all set up just for her. After that we would go to the beach and roll in the sand till the sun set. Benjamin Villanueva Diamond President Valentines Day is a day where you should show some that you love them. Take them out to dinner, then go do something they like. It s a day you spend with them not one where you just buy a gift like flowers or chocolates and write it off. Remember that you should appreciate them by trying to make the day all about that special person. Anonymous DeMolay For Valentine s day I plan on putting up a cute little treasure hunt not too long so she would be able to keep interested, but along the points id put little inside jokes that we have finally leading up to where I am with writing made from rose petals and then a night out. Ryan Tondares Page Commander of St. Bernard s Priory I have only one special lady I can think of this Valentine s Day; Mom thanks for everything and I don't know where I d be without you, you make me happier than any other girl could. I m going to tell her this, or something along those lines. Sam Lerma

4 Page 4 February 2013 New Valley Manor of Squires Squires Manor We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the New Valley Manor #1 for completing the first ever term of the SCJ squires Program. All of the boys should be praised for a job well done. They have accomplished so much in just a short time. All have done a great job learning their memorization work and floor movements, planning many events, but most importantly building new relationships with their Manor brothers. Brother Stuart Blair has done an excellent job leading the Manor throughout this term as the first Master Squire. With the support of the Manor Stuart has produced many successful events including a canned food drive, a trip to a video game arcade, participating in league bowling and multiple Flag and Color Guard presentations for our local Masonic Family. We will host our 2nd Installation of Officers on Saturday, February 2nd at Conejo Valley Masonic Lodge. Master Squire Elect brother Chandon Clay will be taking his place in the East for the ensuing term. Chandon and his fellow officers have a very exciting term ahead. The boys have also chosen to support Relay for Life as their philanthropic project this next term. Mom's Kelley and Mazer would like to thank everyone for their support of this wonderful new program and look forward to reporting on its expansion over the next year!

It s a great camp, and all the DeMolay attending are in for a fantastic experience. *Note from the head of the Philanthropy Committee* Huge thank you to everyone who helped donate clothes to the SCJ Clothing Drive. Every piece of clothing helps, and everyone in SCJ helped to supply a very substantial stack of clothing bags to those in need. Farewell! Ted Baker Highland League President Hello SCJ, Neo-Trital is growing and thriving, and it s only the beginning of the new Neo-Trital League year. January brought many exciting events for us in the league. We had many chapters come out to the Neo-Trital League Bowling league at Canoga Bowl and served at the Past Master s dinner for our fundraiser at the Pasadena Scottish Rite. Atwater Chapter plans to initiate six new members with an additional two from Hollywood chapter at what we hope will be a Membership Class on February 16th! The chapters here are doing a great job! Congratulations also to Antelope Valley, Conejo Valley & LC Kelley for continuing to plan initiations for their chapters as well. Here are some new events coming up in February! Our last Neo-Trital League Bowl tournament day will occur on Sunday, February 3rd at 1:45pm and end at 4:30pm at Canoga Bowl off of Vanowen and Winnetka in the San Fernando Valley. We will be making some league visits to the Chapters very soon at Old West on the 21st and at Antelope Valley on the 25th, if anyone is interested to join the Neo-Trital team, you are more than welcome! Our tentative date (February 23) for dinner set-up and serving the Past Masters Dinner at the Pasadena Scottish Rite is posted in our league calendar and will be confirmed soon. Details TBA, so stay tuned! With the addition of SCJ s Leadership Camp from February 8-10, I m sure leaders are waiting to sprout in this new year! May the force be with you, SCJ! Sonora League What a great start to 2013! With new officers now installed in Moreno Valley and in Centennial Chapter, Sonora is blazing a pathway into the future for SCJ. A huge thank you to the brothers and sisters who joined us on the 19 th of January to usher our newest brothers into the Order at our Membership Class in Redlands! This month, we are proud to be attending Leadership Camp again, but we are especially pumped up for the First Annual Sonora League Knee Hockey Tournament. It starts at 6pm in Yucaipa, and will be $5 per team member, with a minimum team number of 5 people. There will be nachos and refreshments after the games. We look forward to seeing everyone at this truly original Sonora League event. Another annual event already on the horizon is the Memorial Weekend Brotherhood Camp that we share with Highland league. Keep an eye out for registration forms, and come join us in late May for one of the biggest events in Sonora and SCJ. If you would like more information on these events, me at demolaytj@yahoo.com. In February, our officers will be visiting Centennial Chapter on the 11 th, but even more important this month is the Patriot s Day obligation that (hopefully) all DeMolay chapters observe in February. Beyond the prescribed chapter events, I challenge each of us to do our part to remember the men and women who serve in our Armed Forces, and the forces of our allies around the world. Without them, our Order, Country, and way of life would cease to exist. Finding a veteran shouldn t be hard, as we have many DeMolay Mothers, Fathers, and Brothers that serve in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard. We offer a special thanks to these family members who have given so much to our country, so that we all may prosper in the future. Thank you. May God Bless DeMolay, and may God Bless America. Always bear in mind that your own resolution to succeed is more important than any other. - President Abraham Lincoln Thomas Jefferson (T.J.) Elliott-Sonora League President

To all of our campers this year, I look forward to seeing each of you there. Dress and pack warm clothes; I guarantee you ll need it. We have a lot of fun activities planned. 14 Page 14 From The Jurisdiction Dad... February 2013 Greetings to SCJ! So many things to say, so many wonderful events happening in SCJ! Let me discuss my favorite topic - Membership! In January Sonora League had a membership class for 11 young men in both degrees, most especially for Corona Chapter. This event leads to Temecula Chapter going to be initiated and instituted on the same day, Sunday the 17 th of February, at their Masonic Center. We will initiate all of their new members and have a lunch, followed by the actual installation and institution of the new members in their offices! Let s show up and make it a great day for Temecula to rejoin the ranks of active chapters! There are so many ways you can promote DeMolay membership in your area. Make the push now, because we are having the membership class in Pasadena in March. Bring all of your boys who need their degrees down or up to Pasadena Scottish Rite on the 16 th of March. Remember that the new lifetime fee of $75 must accompany the new member s Form 10. Make February a great month of prospecting for new members to get them in for March! But if they are ready to join now, by all means, get them in NOW!!! Magic Mountain tickets will be out soon for sale if you want to attend DeMolay Day on the 17 th of March, Sunday. See your league presidents and sweethearts, as well as league advisors and league administrators. Monday, March 18, will be the LOH Observance in Pasadena. If you are an LOH or an HLOH, get your reservations in to the Preceptory. The contact info is on the scjdemolay.org website. Do you carry a blank petition on you? If so, get it filled out by a new member and put another one in your wallet! Have a safe month of travels and I will see you out there in DeMolay Land! SCJ Dad Dad Dana Vrsalovich Greetings SCJ From The Jurisdiction Mom WOW!! It s hard to believe that we are already one month in the New Year already. But I think we are off to a Great Start. The Sweetheart Program has an exciting 2013 being planned. We have SLC at the Covina Masonic Homes the same weekend as the guys Leadership Camp, which is Feb. 8th-10th. We are also starting a new fundraiser which is Mixed Bags. We are also planning a Gourmet Popcorn fundraiser. Congratulations to all the winners of SCJ Bowling. Also Congratulations to Cathy Rafferty, the Royal Coast League Sweetheart for winning the Tutu Bowl Off at bowling for bowling the score out of all the ladies that played. She will be awarded a $25 Visa Card at SLC. I hope that everyone attending both camps have a great time, be safe, and hope that the information that you learn will help you with upcoming events. DeMolay Hug s and Sweetheart Love, Mom Harlan Director of Sweethearts

15 The Preceptor FROM THE E.O... Page 15 To My DeMolay Family, It s hard to believe that we re already in February; bringing us to our 3 annual SCJ Leadership Camps, one for members, one for Councilors both being held in the mountains and one for our Sweethearts at the Covina Masonic Homes. As always, our Jurisdiction places top priority on training our youth and adults, which is the main reason behind our success. A Big thanks to Mom Harlan & Dad Lyle for making these camps happen. Speaking of successes, let s talk about Membership! Congratulations SCJ for finishing 2012 in second place, after leading right up to the last day of the year. But the most import accomplishment that our Jurisdiction obtained, was to reach Positive Membership Growth for the 4 th year in a row! It seems like every year we keep adding to our New Record!!! Well, we have started 2013 just were we left off, leading all of DeMolay in Membership. Thanks to the Membership Class held by Sonora League. In February we ll be having a Membership Class at Atwater Chapter in Neo-Trital League on Feb. 16th, followed by the Temecula Chapter dual degrees and Installation of officers, known as a Chapter Institution on Feb. 17 th. Also, don t forget our annual SCJ Membership Class, which will be held on March 16 th at the Pasadena Scottish Rite. This year s membership class is being named in Honor of Dad Herbert Wilkins Past Personal Rep and Secretary in the Pasadena Valley and a strong DeMolay supporter. Our first Valley Squires of the Round Table Manor, in Neo-Trital League, will be having their 2 nd Installation of officers on Feb. 2 nd, 2 PM, at Conejo Valley Lodge. Thanks Moms Kelley & Mazer! At this time, we have had 3 Leagues request for information and guidance on how to start a Squire Manor in their areas. So our youth between 10 to 12 years of age, will soon have a local Squire Manor to be part of, have Fun, meet new friends and become a Leader. All of these activities show that our 3 rd phase of our Vision, Expanding DeMolay is already on its way and that SCJ is continuing to grow. Congratulations to our newest Chapters that received Letters Temporary, Palm Springs, Temecula, South Pasadena and Simi-Valley. With the addition of these Chapters and the few others that are in the works, it won t be long before we may have to realign and add more Leagues to our Jurisdiction. I also want to welcome new staff members to the SCJ staff, Dads Randy Fox and Scott Genereux as our new Membership Directors, Mom Susan Holmes as our Fundraising & Scholarship Director and Dad Ralph Shelton who ll be assisting with adult training. A special thanks to Dad Tim Hunt, for accepting his new position as SCJ Ritual Director. Welcome to the winning SCJ TEAM!!! As SCJ continues to grow, it s essential that that we raise additional funds to operate, and allow participation of SCJ members, in all of our Youth Leadership programs. Because of this great need, we ll be kicking off a new fundraising drive in the name of our 501 (c3), known as, the Southern California Jurisdiction Order of DeMolay Fessman Foundation. Please remember, DON T TEXT & DRIVE!!! Fraternally, Just Dad Key
