3 Companions, Royal Arch Masonry has a long and distinguished history in California beginning in San Francisco in 1854 and continues today a vibrant order of Masonry throughout this great western state of California. Orange County # 73 was organized and begun in 1891 and continues today to carry the Royal Arch message into the future. Through the years our members have joined in the fellowship of the Royal Arch which binds us all together as brothers of this ancient Masonic order. Let us remember those who have gone before us and teach our new members the great heritage we all share. Plan to join us on the 17th of November at 7 p.m. in the DeMolay Center for our Stated Meeting. Charles E. Reeves King Companions November is the beginning of the Holidays and all the wonders of family and friends. Let us remember the importance of Charity in this season of plenty and do what we can to aide those in need. May our blessings be many and let us give thanks for the peace and joy which we enjoy in our fellowship within the Cryptic Council. Our Council hosted a very special evening with Most Illustrious Companion David L. Chesebro in October. It was a terrific evening attended by anyone and everyone who is a member of the Orange County Cryptic Council! Thank you all for attending and making this an evening to remember for our 154th Grand Master! Charles E. Reeves Illustrious Master
4 Sir Knights, November is a very busy month. It is the beginning of our many holiday season functions. It is also the Month we take the time to choose citizens to lead our country. Please get out and vote. Sir Knights please do not forget: On Saturday November 15th we will be doing another "Step-Up" when we open and close our Conclave/Stated Meeting. Our Inspector for your qualification for your next higher position will be there. Ritual and footwork should be memorized and automatic. See you there! Knight Templar History October 18, 1009 In the year 1009, al-hakim, the Caliph of Egypt, ordered the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem destroyed. Workmen obeyed; and Yahia ibn SA`id, an Islamic historian, wrote: "...the holy deed commenced on Tuesday, the fifth day before the end of the month of Safar of the year 400 of the Egira." Converting from the Muslim calendar would place the destruction on or about this day, October 17, 1009.* The demolition of this site, so holy to Christians, began with the empty tomb where Jesus had allegedly been buried, and continued with the dome. Destruction was not total, however, because as the high parts fell, rubble blocked the workmen from getting at lower parts. For close to forty years, Christians were forbidden to visit the site. Eminent Commander, Michael J. Sekera
5 My Dear Beauceant Sisters, I can not believe that the year is almost over. It is time for the election of officers for Is there any body that wants to run for Preceptress? If so, let me know. I will serve as Worthy President again, unless somebody else wants it. Our next meeting on November 15th, we will be holding our Memorial Service and Elections. If any officers will not be there, please let me know. Our December 20th meeting will be 10:00 am, followed by lunch and the Installation will be at 1:00 p.m. We want to wish our newest Assembly, Georgia State Assembly, a heartfelt welcome to our group of beautiful ladies. To all of sisters San Bernardino #200, we would like it if you joined us. We are sorry that you had to close, but it happens, I know what it was like when Pasadena #44 closed in Mrs. Robert Coe and Mrs. James Burkett are doing the November lunch. Sisters, it is time to start thinking about officers for next year. So if you would like to be an officer, next please let me know which office you want. I want to wish everybody a Happy Thanksgiving. November Birthday : 2 - Mrs. Johathan Lee. Happy Birthday to our sister. I'm going to be somewhat repetitive and let you know that you should keep an eye on your mailbox for a letter from me indicating that it's time to send in your dues. In reviewing our membership roster, it appears that I've still got some dues cards in the office. Did you remember to pay your dues for 2014? If not, you'll be able to include your 2014 dues along with your 2015 dues. I'm very accommodating that way. During October we hosted our first Grand Reception of the year, and it was a resounding success! The food was prepared by Jim Sunseri and - with the help
7 of Robert Wellington III, Mike Sekera and myself - we served up heaping plates of excellent Italian food. We presented the Ish Sodi to Companion Carl Bohmholdt, and all had a wonderful evening. Thanks to Jim Sunseri and Charles Reeves for putting together a great event! This month our Royal Arch Chapter was to host a Grand Reception for our Grand High Priest, but that event has been postponed until a later date, which I'll announce as soon as I know when it is. Also this month our Commandery, in association with Whittier St. Johns Commandery No. 51 and Foothill Commandery No. 63, were to host a Grand Reception for Grand Commander Carlos Gonzalez. That event has also been postponed until a later date. We will still have our monthly Stated Meetings as scheduled. Please attend! You make a difference! Shawn E. 8 History of the Social Order of the Beauceant The Social Order of the Beauceant was originally started at the suggestion of the Commandery in Denver, Colorado. Asked to host the 25th Triennial Conclave for the Grand Encampment of the Knights Templar which was to be held in their city in August 1892, the Sir Knights felt with only one Commandery and a membership of just over 300 they needed help. Their wives agreed to supply the help. At the first official meeting, which was held in February 1890, the ladies adopted the name "Some of Our Business Society" and a brief ritual. The S.O.O.B. was organized solely for the purpose of providing aid and sociability for the Sir Knights and ladies who would attend the Triennial. The ladies so enjoyed the work that they never disbanded, but instead continued operating for the purpose of making life purer, better and sweeter for others. The society remained a small, loyal, local band of ladies, doing good, and assisting their Sir Knights until the 1913 Triennial when they decided to take action to expand. It was then that the first members from other cities were initiated. At that same time, a decision was made to change their name to something more appropriate to Templary while retaining the initials S.O.O.B. Derived from a banner used by the ancient Templars, the Social Order of the Beauceant was the result. From that small start, the order expanded to over 15,000 members. There are now about 7,000 with 121 Assemblies in thirty-five states. Beautiful and impressive, the Beauceant's ritual contains many lessons which are exemplified by a cadre of seventeen officers in the local Assemblies and nineteen officers in the Supreme Assembly. As the wives, widows, mothers, daughters, sisters and grand-daughters of Knights Templars of the United States of America, or S.O.O.B. members in good standing, they are the only ladies' fraternal order whose eligibility is determined by membership in the Commandery. A new Assembly may be constituted wherever there is an active Commandery of Knights Templar of sufficient size to warrant it, and there are several interested wives or widows. One of the most basic landmarks of the order is the admonition to "cultivate the spirit of love for and loyalty to each other, and the Order of Knights Templar, and the reciprocal consideration due the order." With that in mind, the Beauceant in 1957 adopted the Commandery's Knights Templar Eye Foundation as their official charity. Since that time they have donated over one and a half million dollars to the Eye Foundation. Today's Beauceant is an order with a long history of support to the Commandery, one that has proven to be a source of pleasure and benefit both to them and to the Sir Knights, It is a history they are proud of and one they wish to maintain. Therefore, they continue to cheerfully fulfill requests to assist with entertainment and hospitality at any level of their organization.
