1 Anaheim 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit Adoption Committee Newsletter December 2015 Thank you to all those who donated grocery store gift cards which were given to our families to help offset the cost of their Thanksgiving meals. The support was amazing. A big thank you also to Chris Orange at Albertsons (State College and South, Anaheim) and to their customers who so generously donated boxed meals which were given to our families as well. With so many people coming together, our families were truly blessed again this year!!! UPCOMING EVENTS Committee Meetings City Hall - 7th Floor 10:00am 2016 Meetings TBA No Meeting in December Anaheim Semper 5k THANK YOU to Coach Thome and the Orange Lutheran High School baseball teams for kicking off this year s Christmas toy drive again! What an honor to partner with such an amazing group of young men. Last year the team, along with their families and fans donated a total of 97 toys; this year they hit a grand slam with 107 toys. What a fantastic way to kick off the toy drive. Not only did we collect 107 toys, the Coach gave a very moving tribute to the MEU which was represented by 4 of their own AND if that wasn t enough, the 4 Marines who came up to receive the toys were able to throw out the first pitch. What a special night - blessed beyond measure by the kindness of the Lancers!!! God Bless Orange Lutheran High School You might be looking at these two cute pair of shoes and asking what are these shoes doing in this newsletter??? Well, I m glad you asked because it gives us an opportunity to thank the Littlest Angel Guild for their contribution of over 100 pairs of shoes to the beautiful wives and girlfriends of members of the 13th MEU. When it comes to the Birthday Ball, nobody likes to dress up more than our Marines, except for the spouses and dates. Amazingly, the Guild had their fundraiser prior to the Ball where hundreds of pairs of shoes were donated to be sold in the Boutique. There were over a hundred pairs of shoes left over and the Guild Board didn t hesitate for one moment to donate the shoes for the women to wear to the Ball!!! Thank you so much to the Littlest Angel Guild!!! Your tax deductible donation for every event can be mailed to us: Anaheim 13th MEU Adoption Committee, 154 Jerrilee Lane, Anaheim, CA Donations can also be dropped off at City Hall, 7th Floor or to arrange for a pickup, please call If you prefer, you can send a check payable to the Committee with a notation on the memo line as to how you would like your donation used. Added to last year s fun is a 10k and a Virtual Run is sure to have something for everyone! The date is May 21 and the place is Riverdale Park in Anaheim. Registration is open at Racewire.com and we re offering a great EARLY BIRD SPECIAL for those who register by December 31. Visit Racewire.com or Semper5k.org for more information.
2 Keeping the members of the 13th MEU healthy - Thank you Marco Chambers for the many boxes of vitamins donated to members of the MEU and also for the boxes full of Minion items including t-shirts, pajamas, backpacks, sweatshirts, lunch pails and more! Christmas, the most wonderful time of the year is a mere few weeks away and the deadline date to play Santa to our families is quickly approaching. Home for the Holidays is going strong; there are already Marines who we ve assisted with airfare to travel home but the opportunity to donate is still open. There are still Marines who can use your help! Also needed are toys, $20 Target gift cards, $25 gift cards, raffle prizes and table centerpieces. If you d like to help, please call for information or to arrange for a pick up. Thank you!!! Al & Phyllis Sheue once again donated bikes to the Toy Drive. This is the 8th year that the Sheue s have so generously donated bikes to our families. Thank you Al & Phyllis for your kindness - you amaze us!!! 3 ORANGE LUTHERAN HIGH SCHOOL LANCER BASEBALL TOY DRIVE NOVEMBER 11, 2015 HART PARK THANK YOU SO MUCH TO THE TEAM AND THE FAMILIES!!! 107 TOYS DONATED FOR THE CHILDREN OF THE 13th MEU! A BIG OOH-RAH! TO ALL
4 The Committee, Marines, Sailors and families of the 13th MEU want to wish each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Our prayer is that the most holy and sacred time of the year brings you true peace, unceasing joy, renewed faith, fun times with family and loved ones and lots of laughter! We hope that 2016 is full of good health, prosperity and is the year that the world realizes the coveted peace we all pray for. It has been another fantastic year and we cannot thank everyone enough. We look forward to new ways of supporting our Marines, Sailors and their families again next year!!!! The Disney VoluntEARS have done it again!! The Disney magic worked again this past Saturday when a group of volunteers did a home makeover for one of our lucky Marines and his family; complete with a tree, decorations and presents for the whole family. Talk about the surprise of a lifetime! Treated to a day at Disneyland only to come home and find their home transformed! Such a surprise! The amazing VoluntEARS also decorated the Single Marines Center. Thank you to all who donated items and those who spent their Saturday doing such an amazing job to surprise this very deserving family! Blessed yet again! Thank you to Kris Weber and the staff of Hunsaker & Associates in Irvine for their recent donation of toys and household products for the family chosen for the Disney home makeover. The call went out for a variety of needed items and Kris and his staff answered in a big way. The difference this company has made for the surprise of a lifetime for this family is truly priceless! Thank you so much Kris and the Hunsaker family!! We remember all our Troops this Christmas season - the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard. Our 13th MEU is home this year but there are thousands of troops who are not home with their families and there are thousands of family members celebrating the holidays without their loved ones. May we all take a moment to remember those who paid the ultimate price this year and a moment to say an extra prayer for the safety for those who are currently deployed. Thank you and Merry Christmas to all our troops and their families!!!
