At Cave Quest VBS, kids explore the rock-solid foundation of Jesus love. Cave Quest VBS is filled with incredible Bible-learning experiences that kids see, hear, touch, and even taste! Sciency-Fun Gizmos, team-building games, cool Bible songs, and tasty treats are just a few of the standout activities. Plus, we ll help kids discover how to see evidence of God in everyday life something we call God Sightings. Get ready to hear that phrase a lot! Missionary Jim McGill here July 31st We are privileged to have Jim McGill with us Sunday, July 31st to lead us in worship. We have been providing some support for this ministry for a few years. The church as a whole, PW, and Sunday school as well as some individuals have contributed to this worthwhile mission. Their goal is to bring clean, healthy drinking water to the citizens of Malawi, Africa. Please join us for Worship as well as our Potluck (indoor!) Picnic immediately following the service. We may be joined by some of our friends from Grace Presbyterian in Winona as they also sponsor this mission. We have three committees working on this project, but we need your participation also. We will be providing BBQ & buns and hot dogs, coffee, lemonade, and table service. We will need salads, chips, fruits, veggies, and, of course, desserts! There will be a sign-up sheet for potluck items and to tell us how many will be coming. As usual, if you don't get an opportunity to sign-up, you are still most certainly invited. Please mark your calendar and join us for this special event! Summer Fun Pool Party - July 17th, 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM We will be hosting a pool party at the West Salem Pool (next to the high school), come say goodbye to the facility as you know it as it will begin an update in August this year. Lifeguards will be on duty. Those who don't wish to swim can bring a lawn chair and watch, converse and relax. We all like to snack so feel free to bring snacks and something to drink lemonade and cups will be available. Canoe Trip on July 24th! Come relax in the sun and play on some sandbars as we float down the Black River in a canoe or kayak. We will meet at Lytles Landing, in Brice Prairie, at 1:00 PM and be to Brian and Molly Baker's by 5:00 PM for a campfire complete with s'mores and hotdogs. No boat? No problem, we have extras! Or simply meet at the Baker's at 5:00 PM.

Activities include an outdoor movie, campfire and camping with pancakes served in the morning. Come for just the movie or enjoy all of the activities. Bring your lawn chair and a blanket for the movie. Bring your tent and camping supplies if you would like to camp. S mores and pancakes will be provided. Description of the movie "Norm of the North:" When a real estate development invades his Arctic home, Norm and his three lemming friends head to New York City, where Norm becomes the mascot of the corporation in an attempt to bring it down from the inside and protect his homeland. 3 Page 3 Story Telling Here we are in the middle month of the summer already, it seems as if it was yesterday that we were bundled up in winter coats shoveling snow. Well, the summer lends itself to traveling, getting on the road and seeing something we may not have seen before. I hope you do take the opportunity to see a portion of this grand country of ours. Speaking of traveling, at the end of May and into the beginning of June, I took a trip with my father to Louisville, Kentucky. All the way down and all the way back my father told stories. You see from the time I was 3 months old until I was about 21 months I lived in Louisville. (Here you thought I was a northerner, right?) Well he told me how he was transferred and how we were transplanted to Louisville, where we lived, where I was baptized, (that church has since burned down) and how he was transferred again. As we were driving the streets of Louisville, he would tell me about this street and that street. He told me about no air conditioning and my parents letting me run around outside in just diapers in the middle of the summer. Some of the stories I had heard before and some of the stories were new. He told me about people he had worked for and worked with, some still alive, many of them deceased. Some of the stories I listened to intently trying my best to file it away in my mind so at some later point in time I could repeat what my father told to me. And I hate to confess, some of the stories went in one ear and out the next. Stories life experiences family together, that s what summer trips are all about. A pastor friend of mine has a family pattern of visiting cemetery s where loved ones have been laid to rest. He told me that his children can now tell the stories of family members who were long deceased before they were born on account of visiting cemetery s and showing family pictures. At times I hear people say that was a new biblical story. New? Maybe we just need to spend more time telling the stories of the scriptures. Spend more time hearing about this street or that street, and of the experiences others have had with their Savior Jesus Christ. Telling the stories means setting aside a large block of uninterrupted time, such as going on a long trip. Consider as you take your trips this summer to add some of those scriptural stories that will help inform, inspire and influence our lives in the love of God. As long as we have life, it is never too late to tell the stories of Jesus. 4 PW Meeting Page 4 Diana Engel and Helen Harold served as PW hostesses at a potluck lunch on Thursday, June 2 nd, at the Dragonfly Retreat in Bangor. The Dragonfly Retreat formerly was the home of the John Bosshard Family and is now used as a quilting retreat or just a great group gathering place. After a house tour and a wonderful assortment of food, a short business meeting was held followed by a skit, Shanti Means Peace, which tells how the Fellowship of the Least Coin was begun. The next PW meeting will be Thursday evening, September 1 st, come and join us for dessert and coffee. CHURCH WOMEN UNITED Church Women United meets July 12 from 4:30-6:00 PM at the Southside Neighborhood Center, th St. South. A person will be recognized for her service to the community and will receive the Human Rights Award. Please bring a dish to pass and a donation to New Horizons. They are needing new packaged underwear for Women, Children and Babies. There is a box in the back of the church for your donations. SPECIAL NOTICE TO CRAFTERS! Church Women United is looking for homemade lap robes, wall hangings, table runners or quilts to sell at the national meeting of CWU in October. They will be sold with the funds going to YCWU (Young Church Women United). The meeting in Louisville will celebrate seventy-five years of existence so it is a special time. Maybe you like to make things but have nowhere to use them, here is a chance to use your skill for a worthy cause Summer Special Music Needed Musicians, vocalists, instrumentalists of all ages and abilities: we need you! The Worship & Music Committee is looking for individuals or groups to share their musical abilities during worship services during the months of July and August.
