SUPER WEEK OF CARING UPDATE: What valentine did you get? I helped make a card! What a blessing! That was fun! I m glad I did this! Are you from the Saint Paul in Mount Prospect that gave us the big box of candy?
4 Those are some of the quotes heard during the week as we served others in Jesus name! 163 volunteers, 203 hours, 80 Patriotic Hearts, 58 valentines, 30 baskets, and a car load of pantry items. Thanks for your participation and encouragement and prayers! You made a difference in the lives of others! SAINT PAUL DISASTER RELIEF TEAM TEXAS UPDATE The Saint Paul Disaster Relief Team had a very productive week in Port Arthur Texas. The first home they were brought to was the home of Michele and Sidney, who were able to escape from 5 feet of water in their home. After helping Michele and Sidney, the team was then relocated to the home of Huang Kim. They were not able to meet this home owner as he lost his job in Texas due to the hurricane and is now in California where he was able to find employment. At this second home, they did insulation and sheetrock as the home was flooded to the roof and the whole inside of the home needs to be done floor to ceiling. This home also has no plumbing and they give thanks to Pastor Milo who invited the team into his community church to use their bathrooms. This community church too was flooded and repairs are still being made to the church. The team thanks you for all your prayers and support for this mission, and to keep your prayers with these families listed and all who are effected from the storms. Here s a picture of a homeowner with our Saint Paul Disaster Relief Team receiving a blanket from our Saint Paul Sisters in Stitches! CANCER COMPANIONS MINISTRY Have you or someone you love been impacted by cancer? Saint Paul is beginning a new ministry, Cancer Companions, to provide support and hope to those who are either dealing with Cancer themselves or caring for a loved one with cancer. This ministry will include cancer support groups, individual support, and resources to help navigate the cancer journey. For more information about participating in this program call the church office at (847) and someone from the Cancer Companions Ministry will contact you. FOOD DONATIONS FOR FEBRUARY For the month of February, we are asking members whose last name begins with E, F, G or H, or any who have a heart for this ministry, to contribute. For ideas on what to donate, see the list on the electronic TTW. If you know of someone who is in need of food supplies, please let them know they can use our food pantry during church service times or during the week by visiting the church office. THANK YOU TO BUSSE SNOWPLOWING!!! Thank you to Busse Snowplowing for keeping our sidewalks and parking lots clear of snow and salted for the ice. We really appreciate how prompt they are at keeping our campus clean and ready to use with such heavy snow!
5 THANK YOU GOOD FRIENDS AT SAINT PAUL, FROM ANNA BOTHE After a time of looking for employment, I found a place 14 years ago of where I am still at today. Recently, I was just given a certificate of appreciation for Exceptional Guest Service in recognition for going above and beyond to create an exceptional guest experience. A guest comment was: always so helpful. I would like to take this moment to thank the congregation at Saint Paul, and especially to the Gloria deo Choir, for keeping me lifted up in thoughts and prayers through out the years. The strength of this congregation means a lot! A THANK YOU FROM OUR MILITARY! A heartfelt thank you to our congregation for supporting our service men and women as part of our Patriotic Hearts service project. Thanks to your support we were able to send Valentine s Day cards along with a $10.00 gift card and a box of candy directly to 80+ of those currently serving on active duty. Your gifts were shared with all branches of the military across the globe. We also connected with a Chaplain who is serving aboard the USS George H. W. Bush aircraft carrier who will distribute your Valentine s day cards and candy to those onboard who may be struggling. Thank you also to Thrivent Financial who provided funding for the Valentine s cards, candy and postage. #livegenerously As a military family, we speak for many when we say thank you. Your generosity goes a long way in warming the hearts of those who protect our great land. God s Blessings Roger and Wendy Reiner SAINT PAUL STEWARDSHIP DID YOU KNOW? 14 DATE: Jan. 24, 2018 CONTACT: Lindsay Rice or Cindy Bork 847/ Mount Prospect Historical Society SKATE FOR HISTORY ON PRESIDENTS DAY On Presidents Day, Feb. 19, local schoolchildren and their parents will have the opportunity to enjoy a roller skating party being held to help preserve Mount Prospect's 1896 Central School and to support the Mount Prospect Historical Society. The party will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at the Central Community Center (CCC), 1000 W. Central Rd., Mount Prospect. For the 14th consecutive year, the Mount Prospect Historical Society, in cooperation with the Mt. Prospect Park District, is hosting the party to support their efforts to preserve Mount Prospect history, explains Kirsten Zinzer, skating party chairperson. After a 15-year effort, the schoolhouse was completed last February in time to host Mount Prospect s 100 th birthday re-enactment ceremony. Funds from the skating party and other efforts will be used for continuing enhancements to the 1896 structure and to support the overall efforts of the Historical Society. Admission for the skating party will be $5 per person. A limited number of skates will be available for rental from the park district at an additional cost of $5. But it is suggested that skaters bring in their own skates, which will be subject to inspection by park district personnel to prevent damage to the rink. Disc jockey services for the afternoon are being provided by the Park District. While the skating party is open to students from all schools in the Village, the Society and the park district do request that children in fourth grade and under be accompanied by a parent. Pop and snacks will only be available through the park district s vending machines. The Mount Prospect Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is committed to preserving the history of Mount Prospect, Illinois, through artifacts, photographs and both oral and written memories of current and former residents and businesspeople. On its campus in the heart of the Village, the Society maintains the 1906 Dietrich Friedrichs house museum, carriage house, the ADA-accessible Dolores Haugh Education Center and the 1896 one-room Central School, which was moved to the museum campus in 2008.

16 DATE: Feb. 14, 2018 CONTACT: Lindsay Rice or Cindy Bork 847/ Mount Prospect Historical Society Ladies Night Out! Caroline: Little House Revisited by Sarah Miller Book Chat & Wine Friday, March 9 Mount Prospect Historical Society If you enjoyed reading the Little House on the Prairie books by Laura Ingalls Wilder as a girl, then author Sarah Miller s book Caroline: Little House Revisited told from the perspective of Wilder s mother, Caroline Quiner Ingalls, will be sure to capture your interest. A Ladies Night Out Book Chat about Miller s book is set for Friday, March 9, from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in the Mount Prospect Historical Society Dietrich Friedrichs House Museum, located at 101 S. Maple St. The evening program is $15, which includes wine, coffee and light desserts. Attendance is limited to 20 people. Honestly, as a girl reading the original book series I never considered what making a home on the frontier was like for Caroline Ingalls, said Michele Runde, member of the museum s Living History committee. The book, which was written with the full approval of the Little House Heritage Trust, takes readers from the Big Woods in Wisconsin to the edge of the western frontier. Miller s book is very respectful of the original stories but moves deeper into the everyday reality faced by a pioneer woman. Leaving home in the 19 th century came with the real possibility that you might not see your extended family again, she said. Caroline: Little House Revisited is published by Harper Collins and is available for order on Amazon. Mount Prospect Public Library also has the audiobook in its collection. To register, visit the Mount Prospect Historical Society website at to pay through PayPal or call 847/ The Mount Prospect Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that is committed to preserving the history of Mount Prospect, Illinois, through artifacts, photographs and both oral and written memories of current and former residents and businesspeople.
