STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT: The three kings in today s Gospel traveled a great distance at considerable cost to offer their richest gifts to the Infant Jesus. How far will we go and what will we offer in homage to this Newborn King and Savior? SCRIPTURAL REFLECTION: The Magi looked first in Jerusalem and Herod s palace but didn t find the Child Jesus until they entered a home. Like the Magi, we often look for God and fulfillment in the wrong places only to discover that God is waiting for us in the loving acceptance of our home. THE MOST IMPORTANT PART OF CHRISTMAS IS THE FIRST SIX LETTERS. It commemorates three events~ The Baptism of Jesus {Mark 1] The Visit of the Wise Men to Bethlehem [Matthew 2] and The Miracle of Cana [John 2]. In his baptism, Jesus son-ship to God was manifested to the world; in the visit of the Wise Men, he was manifested as King to the Gentiles and at the Marriage Feast at Cana, his power to perform miracles (a divine prerogative) was shown. In popular celebration, the feast is far more ancient than Christmas. Technically, it is more important than Christmas, ranking after Easter and Pentecost. It is a day of gifts in many countries. In the Eastern Church, the waters are blessed on this day. Epiphany means a manifestation, usually of divine power. Thus, the actual appearance of God (as in the burning bush) or a moment of divine revelation may be called an epiphany. What we celebrate on the feast day of The Epiphany is that moment in the stable when the Wise Men said, "My God " and meant it. The Epiphany happened when those pagans from a distant land looked upon the baby Jesus and said, "My God." Their epiphany was when they had the sudden recognition that at that moment they were in the presence of God. The culmination of their journey had brought them not into the presence of a king, but into the presence, the existence of God. Moreover, they recognized in their hearts that the God born in that tiny baby was their God, even though God was not the God of their fathers, not the God of their culture, not the God of their prophecies or expectations. Still, in that moment of revelation they knew, and would never forget, that they looked upon the face of their God in that baby in a manger in Bethlehem. WORRY MAKES ONE FORGET WHO IS IN CHARGE! Give all your worries to God, because He cares about you. [1 Peter 5:7] Jesus said, Don t let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God and trust in Me. [John 14:1] You, Lord, give true peace to those who depend on you, because they trust you. So, trust in the Lord always, because he is our Rock forever. URSULINE HIGH SCHOOL S annual Open House will be held from 1:00pm - 3:30pm on Sunday, February 7 th. All academic departments and school organizations will prepare booths and displays for the event. The afternoon will feature performances by the Ursuline High School Band, cheerleaders and speech team members. Tours of the school will be conducted by Student Council Members. Student artwork and a photomontage will be on display. Prospective students may register to win one of three tuition raffles for 1/3 off next years tuition. Financial aid forms for the school year will be available to pick-up at the Financial Aid Booth located in the cafeteria.
