Facebook has become one place where we can see certain viruses/sins infect the language and attitudes of those who use that site. A virus would HURT your computer. The Bible tells us that there s a different kind of virus. A virus that doesn t infect our PC s (our personal computers). This kind of virus infects our PL s (our Personal Lives). The Bible calls this kind of virus sin. Ephesians 5 talks about several viruses (SINS) in our text. Colossians 3:8 says it this way: But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and FILTHY LANGUAGE from your lips. On Facebook there s a lot of this overflowing of the heart going on. Some Christians don t understand how damaging our words can be. Facebook can be a great place to talk with your friends but it can also be a terrible place filled with evil and bitterness and darkness. Christians need to be as careful there because the world is watching. Let s face it this problem existed long before Facebook, or even computers were ever thought of. A good Godly leadership and good Godly friends will lovingly confront fellow Christians who don t do what they should be doing. Jesus said: The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him. Matthew 12:35 So, it s very simple. The evil things that come out of us are from the evil things stored up inside of us. Computer experts have a very scientific phrase to describe this process: Garbage in garbage out. What God is telling us is - a heart filled with thanks is the virus protector we need to shield us from storing up evil thoughts and words in our hearts. The more filled our hearts are with thoughts of God and His kindness to us, the less prone we are to fall to the virus of sin. Questions: 1. How does a virus attack our computers? 2. How does the virus of sin attack our lives? 3. How are we able to combat these viruses? What is especially needed to finish filling the bags is spiral notebooks (single subject, about.25 at most discount stores), rulers and #2 pencils. Donations can be dropped off at the church office. Thank you for your continued commitment to this ministry! Pen Pal Program Notes of Hope We all like receiving cards and letters from friends. There s something so wonderful about a special written greeting from a friend or loved one that truly warms one s heart. The boys and girls here at Dakota Boys and Girls Ranch feel the same way. Their faces light up when they get a card or letter from a parent, sister or brother, or an aunt or uncle. Unfortunately, correspondence with family may not always be consistent or even possible. That is why we are offering this special DBGR Pen Pal Program. The program will assist the boys and girls to work toward the faith-based goal of developing Christian relationships. If you choose to participate, you will receive a short bio of one of the residents at the Fargo treatment center. First and foremost we ask you keep the resident in your daily prayers. We would also ask that you send letters or cards not only for Christmas and Easter, but also about once a month with words of encouragement and support. You can ask about the child s interests and family, but not about where he/ she is from, birth date or anything which would be able to be used to identify the child. Please be aware the correspondence may be one sided; however staff will encourage the child to reciprocate by sending periodic notes. Your cards, letters and notes will be reviewed by the child s DBGR social worker and therapist prior to being shared with him/ her. 7 Starts September 9 MEET IN YOUTH ROOM Dear Friends, It is with great joy to announce that you are invited to the opening service of the school year at Martin Luther School! Last June, when we approached the congregations about the financial needs affecting the future of Martin Luther School, we honestly did not know what we would be doing this fall. It is with your help, your prayers and your support that we can joyfully continue in the mission of Lutheran education in the Bismarck Mandan area. As I witnessed the outpouring of support from our congregations, Hebrews 12:1-2 kept coming to mind, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God." For that reason, our theme for this school year is "Let us run the race, fixing our eyes on Jesus." The mission of MLS is not a sprint, but a marathon that we will continue to run together as school staff, board, and congregations. But we know that our strength comes only from our Lord and Savior who gave His life for us. So out of love for Him, it is a joy to fix our eyes on Jesus as we begin this year and always! We are still looking for a fulltime 3rd and 4th grade teacher. Joan Swisher is serving as substitute teacher to start out the year as we continue the search.
