Each retreat can accommodate up to eight individuals. The staff for each retreat includes two therapists, a chaplain and volunteers who provide outstanding hospitality. Participants will experience about 25 hours of counseling in group, couple, and individual settings. All Shepherd's Canyon Retreats are held at Standing Stones Conference & Retreat Center, located fifteen miles west of Arizona's "Cowboy Town", Wickenburg, Arizona minutes from the Phoenix airport. The name of the place, Standing Stones, comes from Old Testament references to Samuel, Joshua, Jacob and Moses who erected rock monuments to commemorate a great work of God's grace and mercy. We expect and God has proven Himself to perform great and wonderful acts of mercy and grace in the lives of many who have participated in the ministry of Shepherd's Canyon Retreat. 4 Our Youth Group was approached about selling concessions for the Later Gator kids consignment sale on Sunday, April 28th. The Board of Youth Family Ministry is gathering all the supplies & food needed. We are including baked goods as part of the concessions. Each family is asked to bring some baked goods to the church on Saturday, April 27th. Since we are missing church on Sunday for the fundraiser, we would like to go to the Saturday 5:00 service together. Following worship we will meet in the basement to divide up the baked goods, and load up all the supplies. On Sunday, we need to be at the 4H building (by Buckstop Junction) at 10:00 am to get set up. The concessions will run from noon-4:00 pm. Items offered includes pizza, chips, pop, water & baked goods. We also need to help clean up afterward. Students will sign in and out so we are able to put the funds raised into the proper accounts. Please let us know what times you can be there so we are properly staffed. They are expecting 200+ people at the event, so this could be a great money making opportunity for those interested in going to camps, National Youth Gathering, etc. Parent volunteers are welcome. Please me so I know who will be there: kristin.nistler@gmail.com. I try to send out a Remind message each week with our activities. To receive reminders (student & parent) text the to You will be prompted to download the Remind App. This is not a group text, so you won t get a ton of messages in response. Please keep your eyes & ears open for more information regarding the National Youth Gathering (NYG 2019). The actual event is July 11-15, 2019 in Minneapolis. Those interested in attending will have plenty of opportunities to earn money to pay for the trip. At this point, our best guess was that it would cost about $1,300 per participant. Zion pays 1/3 of the cost, the youth accounts (through fundraisers) can cover up to 1/3, and the family is responsible for the final 1/3. There is a sign up on a bulletin board in the lower foyer. 5 SUMMARY A round table meeting was held on April 7 to discuss goals for Zion. There were 20 in attendance. The meeting summary can be found on Zion s website. Three goals were identified at the outcome of the meeting. The goals include: Staffing (Adding a Second Pastor) Awareness and understanding the need for a second pastor Prayer Develop plan to financially achieve this goal Reach (inside or outside of Zion) Unique ways to connect with community Partner with other LCMS churches Events for more participation short term And more Relationships (Building and equipping) Prayer Mentorship Building Bridges training And more The next steps include developing action plans to meet these goals. A meeting is planned between services on April 29 to discuss the three goals and plans to meet those goals. All are encouraged to attend. Giving with a Cheerful Heart Did you know a recent survey showed that 80% of our congregation feels as though we need a second pastor? Did you know the primary reason we have been unable to fill that role is because our current financial situation does not allow us to sustain another full-time pastor? Did you know we as a congregation can make a second pastor a reality? Did you know the New Testament indicates we are to give: Voluntarily and cheerfully. Current Giving must be done voluntarily, Contribution 2% 4% 6% 8% 10% 15% 20% not under compulsion, and $10 $10 $10 $11 $11 $11 $12 $12 cheerfully, not grudgingly. $20 $20 $21 $21 $22 $22 $23 $24 Our firstfruits. Giving should $30 $31 $31 $32 $32 $33 $35 $36 be from the firstfruits of our $40 $41 $42 $42 $43 $44 $46 $48 labor. Our giving is what we do on the first day of the week $50 $51 $52 $53 $54 $55 $58 $60 before other expenses come $75 $77 $78 $80 $81 $83 $86 $90 due. $100 $102 $104 $106 $108 $110 $115 $120 Proportionally. Giving should $150 $153 $156 $159 $162 $165 $173 $180 not be an arbitrarily set dollar $200 $204 $208 $212 $216 $220 $230 $240 amount each week, but rather it is to be in accordance with how $250 $255 $260 $265 $270 $275 $288 $300 one has prospered each week, $300 $306 $312 $318 $324 $330 $345 $360 a percentage. $350 $357 $364 $371 $378 $385 $403 $420 Faithfully. We do have the $400 $408 $416 $424 $432 $440 $460 $480 promise that God will give us $450 $459 $468 $477 $486 $495 $518 $540 what we need for this body and $500 $510 $520 $530 $540 $550 $575 $600 life. Therefore, we should give in faith, trusting that God will $600 $612 $624 $636 $648 $660 $690 $720 provide for all our needs. $700 $714 $728 $742 $756 $770 $805 $840 Can we sow generously by $800 $816 $832 $848 $864 $880 $920 $960 working towards a 10% $900 $918 $936 $954 $972 $990 $1,035 $1,080 increase in offerings in the next year?
