A Local Parish Council is a leadership group where pries and people work togeer as partners. It is a way for parishioners to take part in discussions at relate to e parish, its mission and its future development. Tabs for Kids - you guys are amazing! We ve increased our total count again and now sit at 1,487,082! You re making a difference! HOLY FAMILY A big shout to all who attended our Holy Family pot luck supper! We had approximately 60 people attend and by all accounts, a good time was had by all. A big ank you to all ose who helped set up and especially ose who helped clean up after our meal was done. You can be sure we will be doing is again! It's our time of Magical Chrimas Spirit! Exploring Our Fai "Truly I tell you, ju as you did it to one of e lea of ese broers and siers of mine, you did it to me." We hear e queion, "Lo, when was it at we saw you hungry or iry or a ranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?" twice in our gospel reading, but it sounds different when asked by e "righteous sheep" an it does when it is asked by e "accursed goats." The sheep sound apologetic, as if ey are saying, "Oh gosh! I'm so sorry! Did I overlook or forget someone?" While e goats sound defensive, as if ey are saying "Really? I was supposed to do someing? I didn't see you hiding among em!" The reading asks us not only what we have been doing to live out our baptismal promise of discipleship, but to also look at our motivation and attitude behind our actions or lack of action. Do we genuinely try to see e well-being of our fellow humanity as equal to our own? The reading reminded me of a driving inructor I once had, who told his class at we would only become good drivers once we obeyed speed limits not because we wanted to avoid speeding tickets, but because we recognized at our diminished reaction time could endanger oer people. He urged us all to make at attitude adjument. Examples of e difference between is "sheep" and "goat" attitude are endless. Do I refrain from repeating a raci or sexi joke because my boss may be liening or because I find it demeaning and abusive to people? Do I pay taxes only because I want to avoid prosecution or because I see paying taxes as my contribution to e education, heal care and e upkeep of infraructure at is vital to all of us? We may be doing "e right ing", but do we do it for selfish goals or because we underand our interconnectedness and responsibility to our fellow humanity. The "goats" were not turned away because ey had done "bad ings," but because ey had failed to recognize eir responsibility in upholding e dignity of ose around em and had failed to act at all. Today we celebrate e fea of Chri e King, but it celebrates Jesus as king like no oinary, early king. In Jesus, God became "one of us" his subjects; not to live among e governors or Pharisee leaders of his day, but to live among e fishers, lepers, proitutes and ose who lived on e fringes of society. His was not a kingship based on power or privilege but on "kin-ship;" of a leadership based on equality and service. As a model of kingship and discipleship, Jesus teaches us at as long as we allow even e "lea among us" to be subjected to abuse, poverty or exclusion, we are all diminished in dignity. As Pope Francis reminds us, we will be judged as a society by how we treat e mo vulnerable wiin our community. Mary Joshi
