As Tim s article on page two points out, we are encouraging everyone to read through the Bible in the upcoming year. We are beginning to talk about it now so that you can plan and muster your determination to step up to the challenge. But you may be asking what has prompted this challenge at this particular point in time? Having had many conversations with Tim, some elders, and many other Christian brothers and sisters, it seems as though the present day Christian has learned to take the good parts of the Bible but not take the Bible as a whole -- It is one story, one predicament, one solution presented by and about God. If, as a Christian, I am not aware / understand the totality of the Bible, the effect of my Christian life will be greatly lacking. For example new atheists will know more about the Bible than I do and I will have at best only an inadequate response to their accusations; my Christian life will not experience the power it needs to live rightly - resisting sin and serving the kingdom. The Bible is our objective window into knowing who God is. It gives us the response to those who question the existence of God; it provides us the understanding of God s design and intent for how our lives are to be lived. So, don't know where to begin? Tried it before but it is too boring? Tried it before but none of the books seem to relate. I have already read it Cornerstone leadership and the Adult Ed Ministry Team are providing options and help to deal with these and other concerns. Be looking for the Year of the Bible table in the lobby; peruse different versions, resources for reading plans, order a new Bible at a DEEP discount. We are encouraging everyone to read through the Bible in This emphasis has been chosen for various reasons that you ll hear about but I wanted to share these statistics from a 2012 research study commissioned by the American Bible Society and conducted by Barna Research. They discovered some good news and bad news about Bible reading and biblical literacy in America. First, here s the encouraging news: 85 percent of households own at least one Bible, with a household average of 4.3 Bibles. 69 percent of Americans believe the Bible provides answers on how to live a meaningful life. But here s the bad news: 26 percent of Americans never read the Bible and 10 percent read it less than once a year. 79 percent of those surveyed believe they are knowledgeable about the Bible, but 54 percent were unable to identify the first five books of the Bible. 46 percent believe the Bible, the Koran, and the Book of Mormon are different expressions of the same spiritual truths. Survey participants also indicated their biggest frustration about reading the Bible was that they never had enough time to read it. We re asking that all of Cornerstone make time to read through the Bible in In the coming weeks there will be some suggestions and ideas about how to do that. last of garden-beans, tomatoes, and peppers The Rock (USPS #016052) is a non-profit publication published monthly at Cornerstone Christian Church, 8930 N SR 267, Brownsburg, IN Periodical postage paid at Brownsburg, IN POSTMASTER please send address changes to: The Rock Cornerstone Christian Church 8930 N State Road 267 Brownsburg, IN Offices Fax Cornerstone Family, Many of you were here Sunday, November 9 when Tim read my letter to the congregation about stepping down from my position as Church Administrator at the end of I have thoroughly enjoyed serving as the Church Administrator for my church family. This has been the best job I have ever had. I have been able to serve our spiritual community with the many gifts God has given me. I have had the support of the staff, eldership, and members in fulfilling my responsibilities. The Lord has blessed Cornerstone with many faithful servants and leaders over the years. I will still be involved at Cornerstone as a faithful follower of my Lord and my God. I plan to continue down the path He has laid out for me. Cornerstone means a lot to my wife and me. We have a lot of great memories and there are more to come. Again, thank you Cornerstone family. His Servant, David Keith The Rock / December 2014 Page 2 check for updates... CornerstoneRock.org

8 You and all other freedom loving Hoosiers! Saturday, November 22 from 2-3pm Indiana Statehouse (South Steps) 200 West Washington Street, Indianapolis Periodical # Non Profit Postage Paid at Brownsburg, IN Dr. Ron Johnson, Living Stones Church and Indiana Pastors Alliance, will be speaking alongside several other members of the clergy about the importance of protecting our God given 1st amendment rights. To STAND for the First Amendment rights God has given us stewardship over. With attacks against 1st amendment rights all around the country, most notably in Houston and Idaho, it's time to take a stand. The outrageous situation currently taking place in Houston, Texas, is the latest and one of the most egregious threats to our most precious and fundamental liberties: Freedom of Speech. This blatant infringement of the First Amendment rights of pastors is quickly becoming a rallying point for concerned Americans across our nation. It s time for pastors to step into the public arena and lead the way in proclaiming and defending the biblical principles necessary for freedom and liberty to flourish. To borrow the words from the Apostle Paul, it s time to take a STAND. (Ephesians 6:13) This event will be led by pastors. However, every freedom-loving Hoosier is encouraged and invited to be there to participate. Our vision is to flood the capitol with concerned citizens from every corner of the state. Would you be willing to stand with us in this critical time in our nation s history?
