It is time for those who signed up for the Master's Trip to head for New Orleans. What an awesome time we will have! By the time you read this, another Grand Master will have been elected. I want to personally congratulate Past Grand Master Mark Genung for a very successful year and wish Grand Master Dan Barenie a very successful upcoming year. Jackson Lodge will be presenting its Masonic Scholarships on June 28th. Grand Master Dan Barenie will be attending; however, with limited seating because of scholarship recipients and their families attending, seating will be limited to just them and the Scholarship Committee. Our participation in the "Day of Caring" went extremely well and I want to thank all the members who came out to support this community event. We as a lodge must continue our food drive for Anchor House. Please remember to bring your food items to the lodge and 1
2 they will be delivered to them. Anchor House really needs our support. FREE AND ACCEPTED The Masons who were selected to build the temple of Solomon were declared free. These Free Masons were allowed to gather with their families and were exempt from paying taxes. They also had the privilege to bear arms. Thus, they were accepted as free. At the destruction of the Temple Nebuchadnezzar, these Free Masons were taken to Balon and put into captivity with the Jews. Cyrus, after taking control of Balon, gave these Masons permission to return to Jerusalem to erect a second Temple, freeing them to do so. To be free they had to be accepted as free; hence forth the term Free and Accepted. Not all men in all cases are accepted as free, they are held the restraints of doctrine and power. To be free in mind and body, one must work at it. So if you are asked: Are you a Free Man? Yes. How do you know you are a free man? Because I am free to follow my dreams. What makes you a free man? The people around me, for I am accepted as a free man. If you can answer these questions in this manner you are truly a Freemason. Fraternally, WM Jon D. Lanier, PM From the Secretary William J. Reagin, PM, Sec Dear Brethren, I will begin a new chapter in my life soon, but will never close my previous chapter. I have been blessed to meet so many fine men and women who I will never forget. I hope you remember me in kindness. Fraternally and Sincerely, Jeff Reagin, PM 2 From the West Jon P. Sage, SW Thoughts on Charity Of the theological ladder which ascends into Heaven, on which we all hope to travel upwards, are denominated three principal rounds: Faith, Hope, and Charity. We are informed that the principal, indeed the greatest of these is Charity; for reasons already explained. But, what is Charity, other than some irreplaceable force which lies in perpetuity beyond the grave and which lasts into Eternity? Webster defines Charity as a noun, sometimes as an adjective, describing the attending verb of action; and which describes love for mankind, generosity in helping the needy, and kindness towards others. We notice here, that Charity is NOT the action, but rather, the manner in which the action is rendered. Therefore, Charity need not be purely monetary, or physical in nature. The notion is not necessarily backed up any Worldly wealth, riches, or anything of any physical substance. It is a thing packed with feeling, with empathy, with emotion and caring. As such, the Charitable giver may be wealthy, as some are; but, it may stand to reason that the most successful Charity is that which is given out of nothing except, a notion of betterment towards one s fellow man. In this usage, the Charitable giver becomes one which may be looked upon with great reverence. Just as in the Gift of the Magi, when husband and wife gave their last worldly possessions of any value, monetary or otherwise, in order to endeavor to elevate the other, we must learn to follow the dictionary definition of the Charitable action, and intend the act to be a purely self less one. By doing this, we
3 will achieve not only the definable meaning of the word, but will also experience the truest kind of giving the giving of one s own self! Surely then, learning to give freely of our time, our emotions, or knowledge, we not only render assistance when needed, but will also provide the attentive ear, accommodating the instructive tongue, and will then utilize our faithful breast, in order that the Charity and betterment of our Order may be safely stored for the use of future generations. Even those which lie beyond the grave, through the boundless realms of Eternity. Fraternally, Jon P. Sage, SW From the South Albert Eldridge, JW June is already here, Brethren. Where has the time gone? It seems as only yesterday we were plowing snow and wishing for summer! We have been rather busy at Lodge with degree work. Congratulations to our newest EA's, Bro Mark Skirvin and Bro Todd Berry. Thanks to all who came to support us in the degrees! We're looking forward to even more upcoming work as summer comes. Since we are already noticeably halfway through the year, and we wonder about how time flies, I find it only fitting to talk about how we are taught to manage our time... The Twenty Four Inch Gauge. As you recall, the 24 Inch Gauge had been used our ancient brethren to measure and lay out their work. But we, as Free and Accepted Masons, are taught to make use of it for the purpose of dividing our time. It being divided into 24 equal parts, we are taught to give equal time for three 3 important things: Service to God and Relief for fellow man, our vocation, and sleep and refreshment. Too often, in today's hustle and bustle, we find ourselves putting more time into, say work, than to anything else. That's often necessity... Especially for those of us that are not lucky enough to have retired! Then, we must find time for family. Again, all too often, the work time cuts into family time. Add to that all the kid's activities, homework, housework, running of errands, etc... There soon isn't time for anything. So when all the busyness gets to be overwhelming, try thinking about that basic, 24 Inch Gauge, and be ever mindful of its intended use... Try putting those lessons into practice, and you may well be surprised with the results! 6 Articles of Masonic Interest from Stephen P. Kroman, PM Editor After due thought, he said So do I dear.we swap them for a new one every year! * * * * Masonic Jokes A new initiate returns home to his wife who is naturally curious to know what went on. The conversation goes something like this: She) Well how d it go? He) Very well most interestin She) What did go on? He)I m not really sure if I can tell you about it. She) Well is there anything you *can* tell me? He) Well it seems there are 3 classes of men in the Lodge walkers, talkers, and Holy men. She) What do they do if you can tell me? He) The walkers walked me around the Lodge. The talkers talked to me and to the walkers as I was led around She) And the Holy men? What of them? He) They seemed to be a special class of men all in dark blue and gold aprons. They just sit on the sidelines around the Lodge with their heads in their hands chanting repeatedly Oh My God! Oh My God! A Candidate for initiation was to be picked up and driven to the Lodge, but before this could happen the car broke down. The Candidate said as it was no great distance he would go on his bicycle. Just when he reached the top of the hill his chain broke. As the Lodge was at the bottom of the other side and all he needed was a backpedal brake, so he repaired the chain with a cord he had in his pocket and free wheeled downhill to the Lodge. Later that evening in reply to a toast in his honor, he said how proud he was to be a Freemason but could not understand, as he had told no one, how the WM knew that he had come on his own free wheel and a cord. * * * * A mason who had just been installed as Master of his lodge and was duly attending all the functions he could was having a hard time with his wife who said All those masters in office have to do is click their fingers and you would be there wouldn t you?...i wish I was a master!
