1 Welcome and Passing of the Peace The peace of Christ be with you. And also with you. The Worship of God Sara Turpin Prelude Every Valley Shelley Shumate John Ness Beck During the prelude, you are invited to make the transition from getting here to being here. Use this time to prepare for worship, and allow the Spirit to refresh you. Call to Worship Psalm 145:10-18 Hannah Moody All your works shall give thanks to you, O LORD, and all your faithful shall bless you. They shall speak of the glory of your kingdom, and tell of your power, to make known to all people your mighty deeds, and the glorious splendor of your kingdom. Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations. The LORD is faithful in all words, and gracious in all deeds. The LORD upholds all who are falling, and raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand, satisfying the desire of every living thing. The LORD is just in all ways, and kind in all doings. The LORD is near to all who call, to all who call in truth. *Hymn of Praise Glorious Is Thy Name Number 344 GLORIOUS NAME *Please stand, if you are able. 1
2 Prayers of the People Erica Whitaker Prayer of Confession God, you uphold those who are falling and raise up all who are bowed down. Therefore we confess our sins both things we have done and things we have left undone in every confidence that you will open your hands to us in an embrace of forgiveness and love. Amen. Declaration of Forgiveness Dearly beloved, through the power of the Spirit that is at work within us God forgives our sins and strengthens our inner beings. So now live knowing the love of Christ, which surpasses all knowledge and fills us with fullness of God. Thanks be to God! *Hymn of Prayer Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus Number 472 LEMMEL *Offertory Prayer (Please stand, if able, for the offertory prayer) Charlie Thurman Offertory What You Have Done for Me Tom White Paul A. Tate *Doxology Praise God, from whom all blessings flow. Praise God, all creatures here below. Praise God, above ye heavenly host. Creator, Christ, and Holy Ghost. Amen. Children s Moment Children s Church is offered today. Sara Turpin *Please stand, if you are able 2
3 Scripture Reading Ephesians 3:14-21 Nancye Thomas For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen. This is the Word of our Lord. Thanks be to God. Sermon Rooted in Love Erica Whitaker Musical Meditation How Great Thou Art Men s Chorus O Lord my God! When I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy power throughout the universe displayed. Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee; how great Thou art, how great Thou art! When through the woods and forest glades I wander, and hear the birds sing sweetly in the trees; When I look down from lofty mountains grandeur, And hear the brook and feel the gentle breeze. Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee; how great Thou art, how great Thou art! And when I think that God, His Son not sparing, sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in; That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, he bled and died to take away my sin. 3
4 The congregation is asked to sing on the final verse. When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation, and take me home what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration, and there proclaim, "My God, how great Thou art!" Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee; how great Thou art, how great Thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee; how great Thou art, how great Thou art! *Hymn of Response My Faith Has Found a Resting Place Number 584 LANDÅS *Choral Benediction and Blessing Erica Whitaker O How We Love Jesus Number 601 O how we love Jesus, O how we love Jesus, O how we love Jesus, because He first loved us! Postlude Anthem Tom White Tom Conry *Please stand, if you are able. 4
