2 Pastor Paragraphs Open Doors, Open Hearts Buechel Park Baptist Church has jumped head first into Many exciting events have occurred in the life of our community this year and its only February. Here are some highlights: Morgan Fritz will be brought forth for vote as our new Children s Ministry Intern on February 1. Les Goldring began as our new part-time facility manager. Charlie Thurman and Nancy Crothers were ordained as deacons. Kyran Kennedy was baptized before a cloud of witness of family and church members. Sara and Neal Turpin brought their baby boy, Luke Daniel Turpin in to the world. The Spirit of God is moving through our congregation and through our community in Louisville. We, together are partnering with God s mission and ministry to our neighbors near and far. The Church Council met in January and has prayerfully and strategically worked through our 2017 calendar. We strive for a healthy rhythm of church life that energizes and ignites others to join our congregation in God s mission in the world. I am so proud to pastor this congregation. You all have taken brave steps into this new year. I am amazed by your constant kindness, grace and wisdom to all people in this ever changing world. Buechel Park is a community of faith willing to take risks for the kingdom of God. This courage was evident when our church voted during January s business meeting to open our doors to the possibility of having a sister 2
3 Morgan Fritz Children s Ministry Intern Pastor Paragraphs congregation in our neighborhood worship in our sanctuary on Sunday afternoons. Meadowview Presbyterian Church came to us in a difficult season of transition. They have sold their building and most of their belongings this month. Our property and finance team will be working on a covenant between both churches that will be available to the congregation. Meadowview Presbyterian wishes to remain as a separate congregation and will explore the possibility of worshipping on Sunday afternoons in the sanctuary and utilize unused space in our building for their office and storage needs. We are excited about this possibility and hope that both congregations can find opportunities to break bread and reach out to our community together. Thank you Buechel Park, for being the body of Christ that continues to open our doors and open our hearts to the world around us. With a heart full of gratitude, Pastor Erica Whittaker Morgan is pursuing her Masters in Divinity at Baptist Seminar of Kentucky (Georgetown). She is from Ottawa, Kansas and is an alumnae of Ottawa University. Morgan earned a Bachelor of Arts in Sports Studies with a minor in Christian Studies. We re excited to be voting on her joining BPBC s staff. Youth Night at the Pastor s House 6-8 pm, Sunday, February 26 FOOD! FUN! FELLOWSHIP! 3

In the picture, Felix is holding a youngster, Brian, who is the son of a Cameroonian refugee woman. Good evening Mama Carrie, Receive our sincere Christmas greetings from Oujda. By the grace of God through your prayer supports the Church of Oujda is marching forward in the light of God. Since we have started the work for about three months now there have been great improvement by grace. Our membership has moved from about 35 to 80. Last Sunday we recorded 92 members! There are also people giving their lives to Christ and some coming voluntarily to be baptized not forgetting the manifestations of the holy spirit during our meetings to the glory of God. God bless you for your supports! and keep praying for us that the word prevails in Oujda. Felix sends messages to me through Facebook. 11 With Thanks and Gratitude... Dear Congregation, Thank you for your call to serve as a deacon among you. I know I am not worthy, as have most of the servants of the Lord including Moses. That has not been much obstacle to the Holy Spirit. I would wish upon each of you the laying on of hands. It was almost like another baptism, immersion in a river of welcome and good wishes. I will make my best effort, guided in Spirit, to bring blessing and healing to this place. Charlie Thurman I wanted to thank my church family for all their prayers and cards. I love all of you!! I had a lot of health concerns besides Shingles. See you soon! God Bless! Joyce Gatz My Sweet Church Family, Thank you, each of you, for the cards, visits, calls and prayers. I have loved all of you all my 69 years here and feel blessed to have you ALL in my life. Bless you, Anna Bell Hite Special thanks to the Computer & Technology team for all their time and expertise upgrading the WiFi and computer equipment. YOU ROCK! Thank you to my church family for all the calls, cards and prayers during my shoulder surgery and recovery. I m doing well! Thank you! John Condron I want to thank all the members of the hospitality committee - Sara Buckner, Lisa Grady, Michael Hite and Julia Tate for all their assistance during Extravaganza! Also, special thanks to Sara Buckner, Sharon Kauka and Charlie Thurman for cooking turkeys; Bill Grady for carving the hams; and, all those who assisted in cleanup. I would mention names but might miss someone - you know who you are! Additionally, a BIG thank you to Sara and Leonard Buckner and Janice Hedgespeth who recently assisted in organizing the kitchen supply room! Kathy Leichty, Chair Hospitality 11
