You are invited on a spiritual journey to a more generous life
Don t trust in your riches, But trust in God
Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. I timothy 6:17
The more you have, the more you spend, right up to the limits of your income. So what is the advantage of wealth except perhaps to watch it as it runs through your fingers! Ecclesiastes 5:11 TLB
Count your blessings list them one by one It might surprise you what God has done!
Train your children to be faithful and generous givers
And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Deuteronomy 6: 6,7
The most expensive vehicle to operate (per kilometre) is the shopping trolley
You are only poor when you want more than you have
I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little. Philippians 4:12
We cannot serve God and money we must learn to serve God with money
Our use of money shows what we think of God
Don t live for this life, but for your heavenly home
For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come. And don t forget to do good and to share with those in need. These are the sacrifices that please God. Hebrews 13: 14, 16
Our real worth is what will be ours in eternity.
You are invited on a spiritual journey to a more generous life
Malachi 1: 6-14
Malachi s purpose: Confront people with their sins Restore relationship with God Restore Covenant Living
Malachi 1: 6-14 The unpopular message
Unworthy Sacrifices Malachi 1: The Lord of Heaven s Armies says to the priests: A son honours his father, and a servant respects his master. If I am your father and master, where are the honour and respect I deserve? You have shown contempt for my name! But you ask, How have we ever shown contempt for your name? 7 You have shown contempt by offering defiled sacrifices on my altar. Then you ask, How have we defiled the sacrifices? You defile them by saying the altar of the Lord deserves no respect. 8 When you give blind animals as sacrifices, isn t that wrong? And isn t it wrong to offer animals that are crippled and diseased? Try giving gifts like that to your governor, and see how pleased he is! says the Lord of Heaven s Armies. 9 Go ahead, beg God to be merciful to you! But when you bring that kind of offering, why should he show you any favour at all? asks the Lord of Heaven s Armies. 1 of 2
Malachi 1: How I wish one of you would shut the Temple doors so that these worthless sacrifices could not be offered! I am not pleased with you, says the Lord of Heaven s Armies, and I will not accept your offerings. 11 But my name is honoured by people of other nations from morning till night. All around the world they offer sweet incense and pure offerings in honour of my name. For my name is great among the nations, says the Lord of Heaven s Armies. 12 But you dishonour my name with your actions. By bringing contemptible food, you are saying it s all right to defile the Lord s table. 13 You say, It s too hard to serve the Lord, and you turn up your noses at my commands, says the Lord of Heaven s Armies. Think of it! Animals that are stolen and crippled and sick are being presented as offerings! Should I accept from you such offerings as these? asks the Lord. 14 Cursed is the cheat who promises to give a fine ram from his flock but then sacrifices a defective one to the Lord. For I am a great king, says the Lord of Heaven s Armies, and my name is feared among the nations! 2 of 2

Malachi 1: 8-10 When you bring blind lambs to sacrifice on the worship altar is that not wrong? When you bring crippled and diseased lambs to my altar is that not wrong? Try offering that to your governor! Would he be pleased? Would he accept them? 1 of 2
Malachi 1: 8-10 Oh, that one of you would shut the temple doors, so that you would not light useless fires on my altar. I am not pleased with you says God. I will accept no such offering from your hands. 2 of 2

John 10:10 Jesus came that we may have life in all its fullness This is the journey of my life. Lord! Help me choose with the greatest care what to do with a gift so rare.
Micah 1: 13 You say, It s too hard to serve the Lord
God offers us: The power of the Holy spirit to change us from within Free total access to Him through Jesus Freedom from bondage to sin The assurance of eternal salvation
You asked for my hands that you might use them for your purpose I gave them for a moment then withdrew them for the work was hard
You asked for my mouth to speak out against injustice I gave you a whisper that I might not be accused You asked for my eyes to see the pain of poverty I closed them for I did not want to see
You asked for my life that you might work through me I gave you a small part that I might not get too involved.
Lord, forgive me for my calculated efforts to serve you only when it is convenient for me to do so only in those places where it is safe to do so, and only with those who make it easy to do so.
Father, forgive me renew me send me out as a usable instrument that I might take seriously the meaning of your cross. Prayer from South Africa Joe Seremane
