The Life of Donald George Hew Donald (Danny) Hew was born on 25 March 1941 in Kingston, Jamaica, the tenth and last child of Thompson (Qui Deng) and Ethel Hew (nee Dewar).

He loved cricket and as a leg break bowler represented Kingston College at the junior level where he received the nickname Wire due to his tall and thin stature.

3 The Life of Donald George Hew Donald (Danny) Hew was born on 25 March 1941 in Kingston, Jamaica, the tenth and last child of Thompson (Qui Deng) and Ethel Hew (nee Dewar). His early days were spent living in Vineyard Town, Kingston and he attended St. Aloysius Elementary School and secondary school at Kingston College on North Street. He loved cricket and as a leg break bowler represented Kingston College at the junior level where he received the nickname Wire due to his tall and thin stature. After leaving high school Danny worked in Kingston in the restaurant business with his older sister Olive and with his brother Leslie in various businesses. He later sailed for a short stint on National Bulk Carrier ships before joining his older brother Leonard (Lennie) in Grand Cayman in A year later on May 10, 1969, he married his wife, Ardith Bush, and they spent the rest of his life residing in Grand Cayman. Danny s first occupation in Grand Cayman was in the electrical field working with electrician Freddie O Sullivan who also came from Jamaica. Danny would then start his own business in the early 70 s, operating the gas station on Shedden Road opposite Charlie Barnes Buttonwood Club. The gas station was a popular spot not only for filling up cars but was also a social hub for many, especially the small Jamaican expatriate community in those days. If the West Indies were playing a test match there would be an AM band radio receiver setup, tuned in to JBC or RJR radio broadcast of the game and enthusiasts would stop by to get the score and listen to a few minutes of play. Danny later gave up the gas station business to join his brother Lennie in building Commodity Marketing later renamed Hew s Hotel and Restaurant Supplies and the Macdonald s Restaurant and Hew s Janitorial businesses. He worked to build these businesses, day and night in the case of MacDonald s, until retirement from the family business in He went on to start a construction company, DRG Construction, which he worked for a few more years. Although Danny and Ardith did not have children of their own he always loved children and in the early years he was very close to all of his nieces and nephews. He was also a mentor for many other young people, some of whom worked for him over the years. While at Commodity Marketing he also proudly sponsored the young ladies of the very successful netball club, Commodity All Stars. His love for children was however most greatly expressed when he and Ardith adopted Ebony and Melanie as their own children. He was so proud of them and always spoke lovingly of them and proudly of their achievements. In his retirement time Danny was able to enjoy more time with Ardith, Ebony, Melanie and his grandson, Sylas. He was also able to enjoy more time at the horse tracks in Miami and Jamaica as horse racing was a great enjoyment to him. In 2017 Danny was diagnosed with Cancer but he fought bravely and continued to enjoy his life and to socialize with his friends until his passing on November 14, 2018 at the age of 77. He was predeceased by sisters Daisy and Olive and brothers Henry (Qui Mee Choy) and Leslie. He leaves to mourn wife Ardith, daughters Ebony and Melanie, son-in-law Philip and grandson Sylas, brothers Neville and Leonard, and sisters Cynthia, Phyllis and Celeste, many nephews, nieces other family members and friends. He will be greatly missed. May his Soul Rest in Peace.
