1 Volume 8, issue 8 AUGUST 2016 John and Brenda (Gourley) Sutherland, are both life-long residents of Eureka. Brenda s parents were living in Eureka at the time she was born. John was born in Park City, but moved with him family to Eureka when he was one and a half years old. Both John and Brenda attended school here, grades K 12, and both are graduates of Tintic High School. After John graduated high school, he joined the US Marine Corp. and spent a year overseas. Upon returning home, he and Brenda were married in her parent s home on Leadville. Brenda then joined John for the remainder of his time with the Marines. Their oldest daughter, Becky, was born in CA while John was stationed at Camp Pendleton. When John was discharged in 1964, they returned home to Eureka. John was hired on and worked over the next 30 years at almost every producing mine in Eureka, until he retired in Eureka is where their second daughter, Kristi, and son, Derrick, were born. All three children graduated from THS. Brenda was hired by Tintic School District in 1974 and worked for the District until she retired in Over the many years they have seen many changes to the town. Most of the businesses are now closed as well as all of the mines in the District. Their oldest daughter and her husband are residents in Eureka and both are employees of the school district. Their second daughter and her family live in Goshen, and their son is now living in Colorado. John and Brenda love the surrounding mountains in Eureka, the fresh air and especially all of the wonderful people that live here.

4 OBITUARIES Betty Jean Nash Robinson, age 85 of Eureka, Utah passed away June 30, 2016 in Provo, Utah. She was born November 16, 1930 in Park City, Utah to Henry Floyd Tobe Nash and Marion Stanun Braithwaite. She married Robert James Robinson January 26, 1952 in Eureka and they were sealed in the Manti LDS Temple July 17, He passed away May 26, Betty was a master seamstress who willingly shared her exceptional talents with not only her family, but also with the people and schools in her community and many, many others throughout Utah and the United States. She was proud of her Icelandic heritage, travelling to Iceland on three different occasions. She crafted traditional Icelandic costumes for the 2002 Winter Olympics using authentic Icelandic fabric and findings obtained during her travels. Her legacy will live on not only through her children and grandchildren, but also in the countless masterpieces she lovingly and expertly created with needle and thread. She is survived by her children; Rebecca Ann (Larry) Hornby Becky, James Lynn (Pam) Robinson Jim, Kathleen R. Sparrow Kathy, Andrea Jo (John) Midgley AndiJo, Patricia Colleen (Todd) Ryan Patti; 18 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; a brother-in-law, Leon Robinson; 2 sisters-in-law, Helen Allen and Colette Prestwich; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant daughter - Susan Louise Robinson, her sister - Marion Nash Lee and her brother - James Roy Nash. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 12:00 noon at the Eureka, Utah LDS Church, where family and friends will gather from 9:30 to 11:45 am prior to the services. Interment will be in the Salem City Cemetery under the direction of Brown Family Mortuary, Santaquin. 5 OBITUARIES Verna Eileen Davis, 78, passed away June 26, 2016 in Provo, Utah of complications from a stroke. Eileen was born September 13, 1937 in Singapore to Gerald and Leona Minchin. They left Singapore as World War II was starting and moved to Australia and from there moved to Canada and finally back to the United States when Eileen was 8. She married Roger Eckert in 1957 and together they had four sons, Glenn, Bryan, Kevin and Tim. They lived in many places throughout the US and Germany, finally settling in California. They later divorced. In 1979 she married Lyman Davis and they lived in California until 1984 when Lyman retired and they moved to Vineyard, Utah. Eileen had worked for Bank of America in California and when they moved to Utah she went to work for Provo Craft as a designer and painter. She was an amazing artist. After Eileen retired they moved to Eureka, Utah where she was living at the time of her passing. She is survived by her sons; Glenn, Bryan (Anja), Kevin and Tim. Her stepchildren; Mark (Heidi) Davis, Michelle (Don) Aydon; five grandchildren, Brent, Connor, Devin, Dustin and Kinzley; her sister, Dorothy Comm and special nephew and niece, Larry Comm and Lorna Comm. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 6th at 11:00 am at the Brown Family Mortuary, 66 South 300 East, Santaquin, where friends may call from 9:45 to 10:45 am prior to services. - Mary Margaret (Cronin) Schow, 76, Eureka, UT went to Heaven peacefully on July 1, 2016 surrounded by family and friends at Mountain View Hospital, Payson, UT. Mary was born December 31, 1939 at Holy Cross Hospital in Salt Lake City, UT and helped ring in the New Year to Maynard (Dick) and Margaret Cronin. Mary wed her high school sweetheart, Norman Jay Schow, June 28, Norman preceded Mary in death on June 22, Together they had two sons; Kevin (Traci) Schow, Jay (Diane) Schow, 4 grandchildren who were the light of her life; Cory Schow, Reno, NV, Shanna (T.J.) Hannifin Santaquin, UT, Heather and Brady Schow, Layton, UT, 1 great-grandchild; Jai-Ann. Mary graduated from Tintic High School in Eureka and except for a brief couple of years lived in Eureka her entire life. Mary liked to travel, go camping, fishing, golfing, and never missed any of her grandkid's sporting events and then when they all grew up, she went to all her friend's grandkid's sporting events. She had a love for baking, and was known for all her pies, yummy jam, and famous chocolate cake. The one thing she loved above all else was spending time with her family and friends. Known to all in Eureka as "Grandma Mary", Mary was the friendliest person you would ever wish to meet. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed. The world has lost an amazing soul, maybe that's why God called her back so soon. Survived by her beloved: Sister-in-law, Lila (Fred) Roberts, Grantsville, UT, Brother-inlaw, Ray (Eileen) Schow, Eureka, UT, Sister-in-law Jolene (Brent) Fields, Grantsville, UT, and loving friend, Al Wudrich, Canada. Viewing will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2016 from 6-8 pm at the Tintic B.P.O.E #711 Lodge, Eureka Main Street. A Rosary service will precede the viewing at 5:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, July 7, 2016 at St. Patrick s Catholic Church, 121 No. Church Street, Eureka. Following the committal service and burial at the Eureka City Cemetery a luncheon will be provided at the Tintic B.P.O.E. #711 Lodge. The family would like to thank all caregivers from Mountain View Hospital, Payson, UT, for the outstanding service/ care during Mary's brief stay at the hospital!
